Here Come the Holiday Movies...

It's the time of year when all of the TV stations that run movies are going to be running practically non-stop Christmas and other holiday films. There are usually a handful of good new ones each year to go along with the classic favorites. There are "old" classics such as "It's a Wonderful Life", there are "kind of old" (at least if you're my age) classics like "The Christmas Story" and then there are the "modern" classics including movies like "The Christmas Shoes". If we have cable or satellite TV and a DVR we could probably watch nothing but these movies 24/7 from now on until after Christmas if we wanted to and not see a single one twice! Therefore we must make some difficult choices...
Do you have any favorites you MUST watch year after year and if so, what are they? I'll list some of mine, knowing I'll forget some, and maybe you can recommend some good ones I haven't seen! Here's my list:
Surviving Christmas
Most Wonderful Time of the Year
The Christmas Child
Three Days
The Christmas Shoes
Silver Bells
Noel
I know there are quite a few others that I can't think of the titles right now but maybe some of you will refresh my memory!

I don't really get into the "warm fuzzy" type Christmas movies, like It's A Wonderful Life or the Christmas Shoes. They all start to look the same to me after a while.
ABC Family does 25 Days of Christmas every year and inevitably the Harry Potter movies are included in that. I'm not sure why but I watch them every time they are on, especially Prisoner of Azkaban cause it's my favorite. I've seen it probably twice as many times as the other five (so far) put together.
The Hogfather. It's based on Terry Pratchett's Discworld series and I just found it on cable last Christmas. When I saw it, it was a three night miniseries during the week then on Saturday night they showed the whole movie all at once. I watched it twice...and then I bought it!
Beyond that, I always watch Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown, How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the animated one), Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, the Santa Clause....

I guess around the holidays I sometimes become a bit of a sentimental fool and go for the warm and fuzzy...lol...and the corny, sentimental and even somewhat predictable! I must admit I haven't seen any of the Harry Potter movies. I didn't know they had anything to do with Christmas.

There is a Christmas scene in each movie but, other than that, no the Harry Potter movies really don't have anything to do with Christmas. But they are all over cable this time of year so I don't question it

I think "Scrooge" in all it forms, the old and the updated, are my favorites not to forget the newer female scrooges
. I spent all of last Sunday watching nothing but Christmas movies especially the funny ones and enjoyed them all. The is a change for me as on the weekend I usual watch any and CSI and all its spin offs. I am addicted to these kind of shows!

I have seen the one with Susan Lucci and I enjoyed it. I have heard of the other one and look forward to seeing it.

There are a few of the newer versions of "Scrooge" that I haven't seen yet and I've been thinking I've got to catch up. I see there's a "Christmas Carol Diva" or something like that and there's one with Susan Lucci. Have you seen either of them?
I love the CSI shows, too!

I watch A Christmas Story at least once every holiday season. My kids usually force me to sit through the kids Christmas movies like "The Santa Clause" and "Home Alone" and by the time I am done watching those I am pretty much Christmas movied out.

How about Holiday in Handcuffs which came out last year. That was cute. and The Dog that Saved Christmas which came out this year? I also love It's a Wonderful Life.
Ok I will admit it - I love all Christmas holiday movies - they usually give you that warm and fuzzy feeling inside. Something I wish could last all year long.

Hi anniepa
I love watching christmas movies. I do like the more modern ones instead. For example Jackfrost,A dog name Christmas,Santa Clause, and then the new one that is out is Snow Buddies Christmas.
I love this time of year. For some reason it makes you think about your family and all the friends that you have in your life.
Good discussion and have a nice day.
Keep Smiling.

It is very nice feeling. I keep telling myself this whenever I get stressed out over the christmas gifts shopping.
Have a good day and keep smiling.

My favorites are Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation and Charlie Brown. I also enjoy the Rudolph type cartoons. Other than that, I like to watch the new Santa Clause comedies they come out with. This year, I finally watched Shrek the Halls and I love that one now also, but that is a movie you need to buy I believe.

My hubs and daughter love The Grinch.
But the family favorite is The Ref. Not your typical X-mas type movie! It's hilarious, but it's gotta lot of swearing and not for younger kids. The main character is a thief and his heist goes wrong. He has to take hostages, who happen to be a married couple who cannot quit fighting. Then they have their inlaws coming over too. Not a nice family, by any means. Dennis Leary is perfect as the thief who has to deal with all these nutty people.

I love Christmas movies....we have been recording a few of the different movies that have been airing on Lifetime Movie Network and The Hallmark Channel. Even though some of them may not be directly about Christmas they are still really good movies and most of the time are only on during the Christmas holiday...we too DVR them and at this moment we have 6 different movies in the list waiting to be watched but what we like to do especially in the winter time is on the weekends we will either have movie night or game night and we will start about 5 or 6 in the evening and will start watching movies or playing games and I will make up a few snack and this weekend is movie night so we will be watching those few movies in the list this weekend...Then in two weeks we will do another movies weekend and we are planning on watching our christmas movies like rudolph and a christmas story...

I remember when I was a child, we would record every Christmas movie that came on so that we could be assured that we would be able to watch them every single year, and even sometimes in the middle of the year so that we could "think cool."
Now, I'm not quite as big on the Christmas movies as I was when I was a child, but there are still some that I enjoy watching.
A few of these are:
The Santa Clause
Home Alone
Rudolph
Frosty the Snowman

Rudolph; the rednosed reindeer: the movie - the original one with Zoe and leonard the polar bear where Blitzen is Rudolphs dad. not the crappy new sorta-sequel about the island of mis-fit toys which was terrible and had nothing to do with the former.
and of course the classic - On Christmas Eve , it's got no dialogue but the music and sound effects make it so magical.

I love all the Christmas movies. I watch "It's a Wonderful Life" every year. I have it on tape so I can put it in whenever I want. I usually have it in while I am wrapping. I also like National Lampoons "Christmas Vacation". I can't remember all the other names, but if it's a Christmas Movie I watch it.
