Or is it?
Vinyl is making a come back in the recording industry! Some of us old fogies miss the spinning of the "platters" and their warm sounds.

so, do you miss the old records - or as the roomie's oldest nephew once asked "a black cd."

Hey Elic! Of course I miss the old vinyl! I have 3 boxes full
of them! I just need to get myself a new turntable/record player!
They aren't in the best condition, but they are still playable!
My boyfriend/roomate tried to get me to throw them out because
he said they were taking up too much room and I told him no
way! Don't you know that "old things" always seem to find their
way back? I'm sorry that I threw lots of things out! There were
so many styles of things that we wore that made their way back!
It makes me sad that I ever threw anything out!

I don't buy vinyl any more, but long ago, I bought a cardboard box full of ancient original editions of famous blues & jazz recordings. Pure, vintage gold, for less than a buck--worth thousands even then, in their near-mint condition.
I moved out at some point, leaving them--temporarily--at Mom & Dad's, only to hear from Mom a short time later (before I could return to collect them & any other items that didn't make it to my new home) that she'd donated them to Goodwill!
Sigh...goodbye, retirement investment. Mom simply had no clue how much they were worth (she also got rid of some original first edition collector comic books--now worth thousands of dollars). What puzzles me is my Mom was a hoarder, & I had to fight tooth & claw to get her to get rid of any of the actual junk she'd collected! Irony! The food of the Devil itself!

Out of the mouths of babes!
My, we have come a long way, haven't we?
Yeah, I miss all the great large photos and and extensive artwork that went into making up all those magnificent covers.....and, how much we hated those darned 45 type plastic inserts. What a pain! Half the time we'd either drop them under the sofa, or have to borrow someone else's, just to play the dang thing.
Aaaah, but it WAS fun!

That's when you know you truly have arrived at your future!
If it appears in Trivial Pursuit...well......
Take the child to an old record store, and show him/her the whole in a 45,
where the insert was to be placed. Perhaps, even the store owner might have a few to sell? They could be sitting in a candy dish on the store's counter, going for about 25 cents! Maybe THEN they'll REALLY believe you. Sometimes all it takes is seeing it with their own eyes.
Ooooh, ouch! Just stepped on another one of those danged things!
Cheers;

I have many good albums that are on vinyl. I have replaced some with CDs but there are still many that I would love to listen to. We used to have a turntable but it’s been broken for years and I doubt it would be repairable. I may look into getting another one and hooking it up to my current stereo. I have many singles too on the smaller black vinyl. They are so hard to find these days. I remember travelling every where trying to find a replacement needle for my turntalble!

I love vinyl records. Some of my best albums are all on vinyl records. I have the good stuff on vinyl records. I have Chicago and The Beatles on vinyl, and there is now way I would ever sell those albums.

I do miss my vinyl. I had quite a collection. For now it is in storage up north. Doubtful that they are in playable condition after being stored for so long a time.

I don't miss them at all, because I have an apartment full of them, so there is nothing to miss. :) If I dind't have them, I'd miss them like crazy. :)
I have 33's, 45s, 78s, a regular old record player with a radio and an 8-track, and an old Victrola. My apartment is always filled with music.

I saw something on the "Today" show a turntable that you can hook up to your computer via USB cable. I don't miss vinyls or records because as I was growing up we were poor so we couldn't really afford to buy records of our favorite artists.

yep, heard about them, the roomie has a vinyl to cd ripper, for those records that have never been put out on cds - some of her favorite Ed Ames tunes have never been put out on the compilation cds that have been released... And we found some of the old "Golden records" at Goodwill, most were still in very good condition.

My brother in law calls his records old Vinyls. He has hundreds of dollars in records and still playsthem every day. He has often said it's too bad they quit making records because nothing else will ever be around as long as the ol Vinyls. I remember in school we took some old records ones that were sticking real bad and not good for too much and we made them into bowls. Those are days gone by.

I don't miss them cause every single song I ever had on record is also available on cd. I know cause I have them all. I did, however, keep a few records from my childhood that I'll prolly never part with. Now to find them..

I wouldn't think that vinyl would come back, cds have so many advantages! I loved the old album covers, I miss that about them. I don't miss all the space they took up or turning the record over but I do miss their sound. I don't miss scratches and skipping!
It'll be nice to see them come back, though.
