Rush Limbaugh and Pat Robertson Have No Shame!!  

I don't know why you think I'm shocked because nothing he does could shock me anymore. The problem is, you may plan on ignoring him but he's considered the most influential conservative according to a recent poll and that's something that scares me to death. The idea that more than a very, VERY few people take him seriously and even respect and agree with him is quite worrisome.

You know, what sickens me about people like Rush is not that I don't like his politics or that I don't like that he criticizes Obama or other Democrats. It's the fact that he can never, ever give anyone "on the left" the benefit of the doubt about anything! Then HE'S the one who constantly brings up race and yet if someone says he's a racist here they're in hot water! (Been there, done that...)

But there were no shortage of pundits who focused on how Russia's attack on Georgia, and the thousands killed in those attacks, were a boon to the McCain campaign. People even made a big deal about the fact that one of his staff was a lobbyist for Georgia or something of the sort. The fact is that there are always people who will accuse politicians of using tragedies as opportunities to better themselves. The worst part is, sometimes they're right.

Sorry but I don't see any similarities here. Obama isn't running for office now he's President and he did what any President would have and should have done following this tragic earthquake and the color of anyone's skin has nothing to do with it.

How is this any different when the left was accusing McCain of being HAPPY about the tragedy in Georgia, saying his team with "use this to burnish his foreign policy credentials..."

Seriously Annie, your favorite pundits at MSNBC did the EXACT same thing to McCain that Rush is doing to Obama. It never ceases to amaze me the way a letter next to someone's name will change your entire perspective on a situation.

I really don't appreciate your insults, Taskr. We may not share the same political beliefs but that does NOT make you intellectually superior to me. Just tell me HOW a "tragedy" in one place which was a military matter and a "tragedy" very close to our mainland which was a natural disaster is the same thing?

It doesn't matter where or what the tragedy was Annie. You didn't start a thread about a tragedy. You started a thread bashing Limbaugh for saying the tragedy was a boon to the Obama administration and yet you think it's just fine to say another tragedy is a boon for the McCain camp. I'll just have to chalk this up to the letters next to the people's names. That's really all that matters it seems.

You know Rush has been around for a long time. I remember him when Clinton was president and he talked badly about him, too. Clinton isn't black. But he is a Democrat. I really don't know where you get off calling him a racist. Do you have any proof?

I certainly agree that Rush is a racist. Piasabird, we "get off" calling him a racist because that's what we believe based on his words and actions through the years. I don't know how something like that could be proven unless someone photographs him at a KKK meeting but I feel as sure as I could that he is.

Sorry, but if I'm included in that "they're" you referenced, I think we've already had this conversation, many times in fact! The things on which I've based my opinion about Limbaugh's racism were things I've heard with my own ears. I've said repeatedly that those who attributed various quotes to him without being able to back them up were wrong but that just because some of the quotes were possible fabrications or exaggerations, whatever, doesn't mean the things there is NO doubt that he's said suddenly cease to have happened!

For what it's worth, piasabird, Robertson doesn't give "Christians" a bad name as far as I'm concerned, just idiotic fanatics (or is it fanatical idiots!) like himself. I sure wouldn't call myself a "rabid liberal" but I am a liberal and I know the difference between a mainstream Christian and Pat Robertson!

I do get your point, though. It's the fringe element of any group of people that makes the decent people who mean well look bad.

You're certainly right that he doesn't hold back! I can't say one way or another if he's a "good person" minus these comments but these comments are part of the person he is and that's not so good.
