No Talking! Do You Think You Could Go a Whole Day Without Talking??

...Hi there elmiko. Your thought about peace is a very good one. I think there is so much that we have to listen to during the day, that we are filled with pollutionn of sound. Silence would probably help us in many ways, just to get in touch with ourselves for the moment. I am sure that I could go for at least a day without talking. ...Hi ridwan, I know, it would be strange not to talk all day, but I think if we did it every now and then, it could be done. If you have children and a husband, or wife, they have to be considered. The telephone is another obstacle, if you work, you would have to do it on a weekend. I think I could get through a day, and I think it would be beneficial in a good way. ...Hi marianne, Welcome to the ranch, it's a fun place to hang out. With children, there has to be consideration. First of all if you were not talking, they would go bananas, wondering what was wrong with you. So that's kind of hard. You could write I love you to them, but they would defintely have to be controlled or they would take over the house as most kids would. No talking for a while would be a good self control device, if things were conducive to doing it. Take care, thanks for your response.

...Hi lelin, I could do this for a day, for one thing there are not a lot of people around me that I would have to accomodate by talking to them. Answering the telephone would be a little problem, but the answering machine could take the calls. I think not talking could put you in touch with your inner self in a way, which could be good. You just stop talking just for the sake of talking, until there is something meaningful that needs to be said. I think it is a simlified method af meditation. That's why the monks do it among other reasons. You could do it. ...Hi, Of course, everything that 1hopefulman says is always meaningful.":o) You of all people could talk all day and not be accused of saying one meaningless thing if you tried. But sometimes valueless conversations go on all the time. A time out would give us all time to reflect, and maybe appreciate our ability to talk. Take care 1hopefulman.

I guess I am not one that will take a vow of silence. Though when I'm with people I do listen a lot to what other people have to say. And in a group I do more listening than talking most of the time.

...Heyyyy, No need to do that. I do what I would call a lot of informal praying. Every now and then something will hit me and I will make a request for something silently, usually not related to myself. But there are things that I would like changed personally, basically health related. I get a little caught up in the day to day activities down here in our American society and I just wonder if we are not going backwards in some respects. People do not seem to want to stop and get a reasonable, truthful understanding of what makes sense. They are willing to believe the biggest untruth if it is told to them by a well dressed or good looking person. It is very amazing the lack of depth today, regarding many subjects. So I would like to see people think about their choices before they go forward like those rats in that story about the pipe piper, if that was what he was called. It's very scary now a days.
You are one who contemplates and reasons well, based on our postings back and forth. I am impressed with your breadth of knowledge and your interests. ...Hi notlistening2, I am in the same situation, so it would probably be kind of easy for me to not speak for a day. I think it would help you to get in touch with yourself as they say. I think that it is also a form of self control, sort of meditation as well. If we practiced it, it would come easier and would no doubt be calming. Thanks so much for your response, take it easy.

...Hi thezone, So you have had experience with this. I think I remember going through a fast for words day, sometime in the long ago past at my church. I can't remember how I made out. I think it is a good form of self imposed, self control. It let's you know that you can do without certain things, that you couldn't imagine doing without. ...Hi there Gareth, Some of us need that contact with loved ones and friends. If you have children, it would be hard to do. In addition, if you work, you would have to try it on the weekend. I think it is a good thing to do every now and then, just to show yourself that you can do without something that you could never imagine doing without. All your thoughts are kept on the inside, and you have to be in touch with yourself, more so than if you were able to talk. Do you remember how you felt after the week of no talking or writing, were you more in a spitutual frame of mind?
