I was wrong, I did not get a Mother's Day card yesterday and won't tomorrow

My son called me Thursday night and asked my address and I was very happy, thinking he was going to send me a Mother's Day card. I knew I wouldn't get it by Saturday but was really looking forward to getting the first card that nobody made him give me! Lo and behold, a few minutes ago the doorbell rang and there was FedEx with a box. FLOWERS!!! I LOVE flowers! I rarely get them and the card was from both my wonderful boys. Now the dogs will think that FedEx brings things that make me cry! I love my boys. Although they are young men now, they'll always be my babies. I'm so happy that they thought of me today!

That is so wonderful dragon! Here I was reading your discussion, already trying to think of something to write that would make you feel better, and the ending was fabulous! You have lovely sons. Happy Mother's Day.

I hope you are having a great mother's day, too! This is the first time that my sons have done something for me without a teacher making them do so or their dad bullying them into it. Last year they didn't remember till Monday. My little babies are growing up into wonderful men!

It looks like they definitely are. I'm having a good day...had breakfast made for me, my youngest daughter gave me a lovely necklace and we're having the kids and grandkids over for a cookout later. The little ones who live nextdoor came over to wish PopPop a Happy Mother's Day...at least that's who the 2 year old saw first so she said it to him. Her big brothers corrected her but you know how 2 year olds are. My grandsons said it to me but she keeps saying it to Pop every time they come over.

Congrats to you. I have not heard from my daughter. My 17 year old.son has not even muttered as much as a Happy Mothers Day to me. My other son, due to his CP has no idea, but had made me something at school Friday.

Don't you love those things they make at school? I have some plates hanging up in my kitchen, those blank plastic ones they let the small kids color on then they do something to finish them so they are permanent. I have all kinds of things around here that they made in school, I treasure them more than Faberge eggs or other riches. You know, it took me till my late 20's to really appreciate my mom. I'm ashamed to see I sometimes missed Mother's Day. Young adulthood is tough and we are very selfish at that time. Trust me, you'll see a change in the coming years. I hope you have a wonderful day!

Wow that was so sweet and thoughtful of them. I hope my 7 months old son would turn out like your boys. :) It feels so wonderful to be remembered by your children. Being greeted on a Mother's Day is enough so getting a card and flowers is more than enough. I could imagine how happy you are with the flowers and cards especially the thought that your son remembers your special day. Have a nice day always!

A new mother! Oh, you are in for a wonderful journey!! Don't blink, though, the years go so fast you may miss something! Always respect your son as a person even when you must discipline him because my sons now tell me that's what kept me always in their hearts, letting them tug at the leash every so often and respecting their judgment while offering my guidance and sometimes outright refusal of permission.

Thank you so much for the advice. I'll remember that one. Just like what they always say, "Take it from the expert." :) Just like what you said my son is growing so fast. I can't believe how much he has grown in just 7 months. Whenever he is asleep I stare at him sometimes for hours. It feels so good just looking at him sleeping and wondering what will happen when he grew up. I know time will come that he will spend lesser and lesser time with me . That's why I'm making sure that I spend all the time I have with him now that he still have all his time just for me.

It was rather ho-hum before the doorbell rang. I'd put on the necklace they gave me for Christmas so long ago that says "I love Mom"--all the fake gold plating has worn off but it's beautiful to me. This day could only be better if my sons and I were in the same town! I was so excited that I forgot to ask how everyone else's day was going! Do you have children? If so, are you having a wonderful day or do they celebrate it where you are? Either way, I hope it's a great one!

Ah that is so nice, what a wonderful surprise for you. I have not been given flowers for a very long time for any thing. Never from my children except when they were small and picked me bouquets of dandelions and wild flowers. But they do give me other gifts and cards and call me and some years we go out to lunch or dinner or breakfast. Which is really nice, my hubby does bring me flowers every few months just because and for no reason than to say I love you. What great sons you have.

I'm keeping the accompanying card as a memento, though. I love cards! I felt appreciated yesterday like no other year, it's the first time they've ever done anything on their own.

Hi, dragon54u. Bless your heart, that was so sweet of your sons to surprise you with flowers on Mother's Day. That was very sweet of them to do this for you. I know that these are some very beautiful flowers. I could not imagine how happy you were feeling when you saw your flowers. You are one special mommma. And your boys proved that by giving you a special piece of their heart on this wonderful day! Have a Happy Mother's Day!

OH, that's lovely, dragon! What a wonderful surprise! I'm very happy for you. I hope the flowers last a nice long time. I got a phone call from my oldest son this morning. I was asleep and didn't hear the phone but he left a message telling me 'Happy Mother's Day' plus he said we'd celebrate on Thursday, his first day off. That suits me just fine because I caught a cold yesterday that hubby was nice enough to bring home with him. He claimed he was catching a cold on Thursday but his never really materialized. Mine showed up on Saturday. Hmmph!!! It's cold out and I feel like poop. Well, it didn't get over 60 deg outside and it's windy, so I didn't even feel like doing any gardening, even if I could drum up the energy. (This is one heck of a cold!) So, my Mother's Day has been just like any other Sunday with the exception that I'm sleeping a lot more and coughing a lot. I'll let you know how it goes on Thursday. It should be nice. Last year, I received a photo of my sons who posed specifically for this picture and it was in a frame that my oldest had picked out that I absolutely adore because it has leaves etched into it. (You know, nature and all that stuff.) I LOVE that gift and I doubt they'll ever be able to top it. Anyway, enjoy the rest of your day and the lovely flowers! Happy Mother's Day to you from another mother.

I'm very happy for you. Flowers in a box! Wow! Were they long stem roses? I don't remember ever getting flowers in a box, other than a corsage to wear. I didn't get even one card, either. However, our daughter sent a mixed bouquet of flowers in a nice vase, and our son called this afternoon. He put the phone on speaker so that I could speak to his youngest soon at the same time. His other son is away at school, so I didn't get to talk to him. I did get many verbal wishes from church members and neighbors, also.

I have rarely received flowers and never in a box. They are pink tulips and purple irises, just beautiful! I wish mail would make a comeback, I really do. I love getting cards and letters and have saved so many that I've received over the years from loved ones long gone and those still here. I enjoy going through them once in awhile. Your children are very thoughtful! And you are so blessed to have grandchildren--my sons are 21 and 22 and I had them in my 30's so grandchildren are years away. I'm so glad you had a great day!

Once a mother, always a mother. That is very touching and so sweet of them to remember you. A bundle of flowers? Wow! That's saying "I love you" so many times. It was indeed a happy mother's day to you.

Wind Spinner - Mine has a Hummingbird in the center.
I am so happy for you. I got a Wind Spinner with a Spiral Tail. My son-in-law hung it in my back yard on a shepherd's hook and I have been mesmerized watching it spinning and changing into beautiful patterns from the wind and sun. I have never seen anything like it before. So I was also surprised and happy on this mother's day.

hi dragon54u I am so glad your sons did that for you, as that is just such a great gift for you and with the love that came with it you would surely shed a tear too. my son spent all evening with me and wished me an early mother's day as today is Mothers Day here in California in the US. Also he could not give me a gift as he is still without a job and I had to lend him some money. but he loves me and I love him,and thats a gift money cannot buy.

Dear Hatley, our children don't need to give us gifts do they? Their love is gift enough! Every so often when they do things like this it just swells my heart with love and pride. This is the first time they've ever done anything like this--their dad used to force them to buy me presents on this day and he thought he was doing them a favor but the gifts they gave me because of that aren't the ones I treasure the most. Your son spent time with you and that is priceless. It's something we can never get back so it is given at great cost. The love he shows you is even more precious. And remember, you shared a home before your misfortunes and there are not that many children these days who willingly or cheerfully do that. We both have great sons!

My neighbor says dogs don't like the UPS men because of the colors but we all know (except him I guess) that dogs are color blind! Maybe they don't like the shade? My dogs love UPS because he brings their bully sticks! I hope your mother's day is going well!
