This Father Must Be A Psycho Case To Even Think Of This Punishment For Son |
| |
| I sometimes wonder like what the heck is going on in the world and with people. It used to be that parents might "discipline" their children by giving them a spanking, nothing more. I guess I was sort of a brat as a very young kid as I got my fair share of spankings, not from my mother or grandmother, but the "disciplinarian" of the family...my great-grandmother who took care of me while my mother and grandmother worked. Well, today I heard this story of a 52-year old man, James Moss of Staten Island, who suspected that his 9 year old son stole some money from his wallet. So instead of a spanking, or maybe "grounding" the son" he punished his son by taking his son's hands and holding them over the stove's burner, causing second and third degree burns, also hit his son with a wooden spatula, then shoved his son in the oven and threatening to burn his son alive...like WTF??????? http://www.nbcnewyork.com... I mean what kind of person even thinks of this as a means of "punishment"? Is is me or does the world seemed to be getting crazier, or are we just hearing more of such things due to the media? | | | | | |

| | That's FOR REAL?! That is COMPLETELY inhumane. I don't understand how parents would be able to actually live with the fact that they hurt their children this much. I'm sure that this child will remember that for the rest of his life, and he probably won't even look at his father the same way. I feel bad if I even yell at my kids. My goodness, I wonder what's going to happen to the father now. :o | | | | | | |

| | I'm just guessing this poor kid is going to develop a real phobia about fire and stoves in general. From the article it seems for now the father is in Rikers Island prison and held without bail...there doesn't seem to be any mentioning of a mother in this story so wonder where the kid is now? | | | |

| | Well, there was a time when news was so bad that people could kill other people and get away with it... There was a time where this would've been considered extreme, but also a kind of "eye for an eye" type punishment. I'm not going to say I approve, I don't. I'm not saying it was all right then, because it wasn't. I would hope we would have "matured" enough as a race or society to not do STUPID things like this guy did, but obviously we aren't. So I hope this worthless piece of trash masquerading as a human is never allowed to be around children again! | | | | | | |

| | It certainly seems that despite our so-called sophistication, we as a society haven't "matured"--if anything I think things are getting worse and we're going backwards instead of forward | | | |

| | no, i think it was the money that made him crazy. He was so concerned about the lost money that he didn't care what he did to his son. Poor boy. I hope he is doing fine despite everything. | | | |

| | I think a lot of parents are "afraid" to do any kind of discipline nowadays as even a spanking might be considered "child abuse", but this father doing what he did to his son is really sick. You're right, I never even punished my cats through the years so can't imagine a "punishment" like this for a child | | | |

| | Hey pye~ Another really sicko father that needs to stay in jail for child abuse and hopefully will never see his son again! And again, where was the boy's mother when all this sickness was taking place? WTF is wrong with this world? And thank God he was taken to the hospital, but by who? Did the father take him? Somehow I doubt it! And at least he did confess to this haneous crime and thankfully didn't turn on the oven! I just don't even know what to say anymore! I just get sick when I hear these stories and can't believe that these people have children! I hope that this child will be able to be given to a nice family who will be able to help him forget the torment he has already gone through! I pray for this poor little boy! | | | | | | |

| | There doesn't seem to be any mentioning of the mother and where she was in all this, and I wonder who has the kid now, unless he's going to a foster home for now--I think this sickos punishment should be the same ....hold HIS hands over the burner | | | |

| | Oh! I am so for an "eye for an eye"! I wish that they would do the same punishment to this man! But, sadly they never do and I just pray that they never give the boy back to him no matter what! He probably is in "protective custody" at the moment, but depending on that state's law it might only be temporary! | | | |

| | I heard of someone who put a child's hand on the stove for stealing before. I have never heard of the rest of this happening. I think stealing is very bad as well. but,the poor child did not deserve to be treated this way. Life is getting hard for all of us and kids are getting their fair share of it. Poor kid. | | | | | | |

| | I think a simple spanking or grounding the boy as punishment could have been used, but certainly not this form of punishment | | | |

| | OMG!!! The article said he allegedly held the boys hands over the fire for 120 seconds.. 2 FREAKING MINUTES!!! Allegedly???? Is the boy's 2nd and 3rd degree burns alleged burns? That father deserves the same thing done to him. | | | | | | |

| | I often think when I hear of horrendous animal abuse cases, that the same punishment done to the innocent animal should be done to the abuser, so yup, in this case, this father's hands should be placed over a burner for two minutes | | | |

| | I think it was better when parents felt they could spank their children.All these alternatives are dangerous. | | | | | | |

| | That's the problem though, many parents are scared to spank kids since people might cite "abuse"--but certainly better than what this father did | | | |

| | Pye I once knew a man that told me this happened to him when he was a boy..they put his hand over a hot burner for stealing a bike..well borrowing it you know. Not getting in the oven part, but the hand over the burner. I will never forget him telling me that and I didn't know what to say..He also had been in and out of the mental wards and also escaped from one indeed. True story.. So I believe these crazy less than humans that do these things have always existed it is just now we have more access to hear about them. I feel so bad for the child..breaks my heart to think of how he is going to cope with this experience all his life. I have lived through much abuse in the outside world, not in my own home, but once I got out, I have cared for several abused children, and it hurts me beyond words to hear these things. I have heard many 'secrets' both from children and adults about abuses suffered at the hands of nutcases like him. | | | | | | |

| | Yeah, no doubt we're hearing more of not only child abuse, but animal abuse via the media. Makes me wonder if the father abused animals, since usually child abusers started out as abusers to animals | | | |

| | I'm hearing more and more such cases....it could be because of the media and things are coming out in the open....I can't be sure of that, though. I'm seeing a lot of parents around me being irresponsible, harsh...brutal...etc. I don't know what's come of this world. Everyone seems to have so much pent up negative energy and the easiest target seems to be the children! | | | | | | |
pyewacket (12221)

| | yes the media might be the reason we hear more abuses towards children (and animals) than before, but yes, maybe what is going on too, is a lot more "negative" energy out there in the world, if that makes any sense | | | |
