I Was so Proud of Him

I wasn't going to write about what happened last Sunday as politics is not a matter that is taken lightly and can be extremely volatile in my country.
But many of you know that my eldest son is in politics and will be running in our next General Election that takes place by September next year. He will be running to be a Member of Parliament. The Prime Minister has the authority to call the election at anytime giving only 3 weeks notice to the country so it is important now to be on the alert.
Well my son had a meeting last Sunday in a small town and there were over 5000 in attendance. They came from the hills and the valleys. People put their little money together to pay for a bus or a taxi to transport them to the meeting. This is such a poor constituency but they turned out to support my son.
He did not promise jobs, houses, roads or schools. He just promised that there would be justice for all and no pork barrel politics. We are a poor country and there can be no wasting of money. Listening to this thirty something man speak with passion and love for his country brought tears to my eyes and they came a little faster when he publicly thanked me for always supporting him and being there for him at every meeting.
What he gave them was hope. As usual, we turn out en masse as a family to support him and he thanked each family member publicly. I wished so much that his father had been there to witness and listen to this son we had raised.
I know that the going is going to be more than tough as he will be subjected to lies and insults and perhaps worse as the time before the elections becomes less. But we will get through it. The only way we can lose is if people sell their votes and we pray that this will not happen.
So when was the last time you felt so proud of a family member that you felt as if your heart would burst with joy?

Wow, congrats, that is big news and I too would be very proud...I always find something about my children to be proud of.
My oldest son's ability to work out math problems is amazing enough that if I had a business, I would hire him to do any accounting and I am not being bias on that. My daughter, I am proud that even though her dad and most people around her were very negative about her becoming a groomer, (I was probably one of few who encouraged her)she is not only a groomer, but an excellent one. (Nope, not being biased here either..lol) Then my youngest son, he is like his older brother, but with more people skills..He is smart and draws very well, (enough that if I could, I want him to draw the cover to my book) and is very animated..
That said, I think we all have something to be proud of our children for, but not many has the honor of a child in politics, that is wonderful, I hope he wins..

I should have added that I am proud of all of them. Especially my second son who has appointed himself to 'watching his brother's back'. This son is dyslexic and has reasoning problems but his great work ethics usually ensure that he finds work driving heavy duty equipment. My youngest so is a General Manager of a hotel in London and my daughter has her Master's and is teaching full time and lecturing part time at our University.
It is just that my husband and I worked for social justice all of our lives and to improve the conditions of those who never got a chance. we were political but this son has taken what we were to a whole different level. Does that make sense?
Your children sound amazing and I wish for you all every happiness.

Oh yeah that makes sense, it would be like if one of my children turned their back on the lies like I have tried to and never looked back..But that is a different story..Plus, yeah my kids are great, but I didn't tell you the downside..Everyone has a down side, don't they??

Yes they do - we all have a story and sometimes have to forgive ourselves and not hold on to what was or what had happened in the past. It is a journey and we have so many ups and downs my friend.

Thank you so very much my friend. Your prayers are welcome as it is going to be stressful. A little later he will have security protection. I will be glad when his wife and the twins will be out of the country when all hell breaks loose.

Of course they make you proud and they are proud of you too.
This next year is going to be challenging and we have to be strong to face it. |I have made many mistakes in my life but the one thing I have done right is that all my children love each other and are close. At one time a few years ago they were scattered but they still spoke to each other daily.

I can certainly appreciate the pride you feel for your son. He sounds like such a smart and passionate man…As a mother I can relate to parental pride. My nine year old daughter has been ballroom dancing since she was four and when I watch her dance at the studio all dressed up and graceful I am so thankful for her and so darn proud! I wish your son all the best of luck.

I would have been proud as well, sweetie.
At least he doesn't make promises he cannot keep.
The old political crap need to be set out the back door of each and every country.
I wish him all the best and good luck to you all.

Politics can be a very nasty business. We need young people of integrity stepping up to lead the countries, and yes, to give hope. I am a big fan of both of my kids, and you can very well be proud of that son, and of your whole family for rallying around him.

We certainly need clean young people in politics. Those who are not corrupt and have the strength not to become corrupt. Thank you gardengerty for your very kind words.I just pray for all my children and hope that there will not be too much trouble when it all begins to 'hot up' - as we say out here

cynthiann,
Reading this post just reaffirm the importance of good parenting and I have to say that both your husband and you do deserve the credits for the well being of all your children. I am sure your husband is definitely at peace and happy with this.
I hope that your son will be successful with the elections and that he will be able to serve the country well. Not expecting much, but I wish him every success in his future endeavors, who knows he might just write another historical chapter for the country in time to come.
"From the loving example of one family a whole State may become loving, and from its courtesies, courteous; while from the ambition and perverseness of the one man the whole State may be thrown into rebellious disorder. Such is the nature of influence." - Confucius (The Wisdom of Confucius)

I am honestly lost for words after reading the contents of your response. Thank you so much and I have already passed the quote to my son. We have suffered s much at the hands of politicians that we need new, young clean people in these positions. People of common sense who will stretch the scarce dollar so that all may benefit a little.I am really touched by this - thank you.

cynthiann,
I hope that your son will find the Wisdom of Confucius useful as he go about his campaign, there are a lot of which is applicable and useful quotes like:
“The superior man acts before he speaks, and afterwards speaks according to his action.”
“Do not be desirous of having things done quickly. Do not look at small advantages. Desire to have things done quickly prevents their being done thoroughly. Looking at small advantages prevents great affairs from being accomplished.”
But, I think this one would be his favorite where Confucius said: “To put the world in order, we must first put the nation in order; to put the nation in order, we must put the family in order; to put the family in order, we must cultivate our personal life; and to cultivate our personal life, we must first set our hearts right.”
Lastly, I would like to wish him every success in all his endeavors.

Thank you so much. I am printing this quotes for him. He is a humble person who is practical and well organised. He is passionate about the development of his country - which right now is going down the shute as it is likely that we have failed the IMF tests.

hi cynthiann Congratulations on a fine son and I am so impressed thatt he is utterly honest and not promising pie in the skyl our american president could learn something from him. Its wonderful you allwent and supported him, thats so lovely. Myson has not done anything really outstanding excepft for me. He downloaded and did all the work of putting a new Windows XP professional on my computer
and did it all himself spending hours each day for four or five days to get it all done.I had a windows 2000 which was 11 years old and getting hard to get software for. Now I am modernized and I love it
so I am proud of him for being so good to me.Now if he would only get
that full time job so I could move out of here that would be utterly fantasic. lol

You are rightly proud of him as he has not deserted you and is there for you. not everyone can say that. Thank you for your kind remarks about him. he is winning n the polls but 24 hours is a long day in politics. When people talk about him he is mostly described as 'a good man'. That pleases me.
I pray Hatley that you will one day eave where you are and live with him again I really pray that this happens. Every blessings my friend.

I was wondering why he was campaigning now when the election isn't for over a year. But apparently you don't really know when the election will be.
Anyway mine aren't into anything as big as running for office (yet), but I'm proud of them for little things all the time...

Yes, both sides are in campaign mode and we have to be ready as we only get 3 weeks notice. Your children are young and they will achieve whatever they want to do in life and I know that you are so proud of them

Congrats.. and best of luck!
My kids haven't done much else but frustrate me lately. Wishing it was closer to time to send them back to school! I guess I am proud of their grades last school year, and proud of the fact that my oldest graduated middle school and is moving on to high school, though I'll be even prouder when he graduates high school. I'm also really proud of my 5 year old who is reading quite well and not even in Kindergarten yet.

It will soon be school again. I am happy that all your children did so well this last school year - especially the youngest. This must make you so very proud of them. High School is a big step forward and I
wish him all that is good.

My five year old played baseball (tee-ball) this spring-summer. It was the first time he played this sport, but even before the season ended, he had gotten so good at it that he didn't need the tee anymore. He could hit a pitch during their games. A few days ago, the coordinator of their league called me up and asked if I wanted my son to get into the fall all-star league! I managed to say yes, and hang up the phone before my heart burst with joy!
Congratulations on your son! I hope you keep us posted on his election campaign.

Oh this is so wonderful and you are rightly so proud of him! My boys were all athletic and I so believe in children playing sports. Enjoy evry moment with yur children.
Yes, I am so proud of him because of what he stands for and what he is trying to do. If we get this next recession we are in worse trouble. We have a saying that if the USA sneezes then we get pneumonia. The world finances are in deep trouble
I will keep you updated to a degree but have to be careful not to raise the ire of persons from my country who may oppose him. Blessings

hi dearest cynthiann sorry for the super late answer but as I didnt get online as much as I really wanted I saved up all the notifications about interesting discussions such as yours here and now I am working my way through them. LOL.
Thats awesome how close knit your family is and seems you really help each other out should there be a need whatever the need is. Congrats to you for this and Congrats on your sons achievements. Thats not often you find a politician not telling lies just to get the votes.
I dont have anyone of my family to be proud of. I am just proud of having cut the ties to my family as much as I could by now that means, the expected cards for Christmas, birthdays and saints Days are all right but I would never call them let alone visit them. It was my dream to cut the ties since I turned 18, even before this and it took 30 years to make this dream come true.
Sadly there are families where you can just say, if you have such a family you dont need enemies any more.

If anyone would understand where you are coming from then it would be me. I had the childhood from hell but had blocked the torture endured until I was in my late 40's. It took some years in therapy and a lot of help from someone in my Church to help me deal with this.
My husband had also had an abusive childhood and when out first son was born the he told me more of what he had been through. We strived to bring up a close knit family who loved each other. They were disciplined but never beaten or abused in any way. The election in December 29th so we will know then whether the people will vote with their conscience or vote for the money that is being offered. I don't blame them for being tempted as they are so very poor.
I do hope that you are in a better place in your life now and wish you all the happiness in the world. Stay away from toxic people.
