Why Can't Men Buy Their Own Underwear? They Buy Ours Don't They Ladies?:-0

This thought came about when I discovered yet another pair of John's boxer shorts with holes in them and yes, I HAD bought them myself, along with a few other pairs and his socks, of course...ages ago! It's getting to the point where it's too embarrassing to peg them on the line. How he manages to wear them (especially the boxers) without them falling to bits completely is a mystery. The thing is, whenever I say to him, "John, I think you need some new boxer shorts and socks," he just goes, "Hmmm, right!" and carries on watching the telly. Even his jeans are getting holey now and..yes, I bought those as well. Oh, well, it's not long (September) until it's his birthday. Hopefully, I shall have enough money in the bank to buy him - at least, some underwear. Is your hubby/partner like this? I bet the only underwear he buys is for you. Why is that? Why can't he do both at the same time? Oh, by the way, when Mum asks Danny (my brother) what size he is he'll go "I dunno, it's on the label" so she buys his underwear as well. Maybe not as much as she used to but she certainly buys my Dad's!

Roughly the same with men, men are commonly bad at buying those themselves and can make do with it if something is the worse for wear.To be frank with you,I have never bought shorts, socks and the like by myself. My wife is bothered with those.

I married a man who was living on his own and used to doing everything for himself, so he buys most of his clothes. I like to pick out his ties because I think I have better taste then he does though his is not bad.

My Dad was clueless when it came to clothes. LOL I can remenber my Mom dragging him to stores for suits. He never noticed if anything was wearing out and Mom was his clothes consultant and decision maker.

I DO buy him tshirts though... because I think I pick better colors than he does. He just buys shirts, I don't think he even LOOKS at the colors.

Many men are colour blind too so that gives them yet another excuse not to go shopping!

Basically, I think it's because most men hate shopping. And personally, I hate to make a trip to a store for just one thing, like underwear. I'll wait until I need a few things and then make a trip to get them all at once. Either that or I'll put it off until I'm in the area of the store so I can stop in and get what I need. Usually for me though, I don't usually get to a point where I'm in dire need of anything like that because when I do buy stuff like underwear and socks, I buy extra so I have a spare pack to replace them as they wear out. I always have plenty. I guess for some guys, especially ones that have been married for a long time, they get dependent on others to do things for them. They also have the attitude that hey, women like to shop, so she can pick up what I need the next time she is out shopping. So if you want him to do it, you'll probably have to come right out and say, "I'm not getting your underwear for you, so you'll have to do it yourself." Of course, he may just keep wearing the raggedy ones until you get so frustrated that you buy them anyway. It could be a no win situation.

You sound very organized..good for you I also think it's habit and what a couple gets used to. If the wife starts buying things it just continues.

millertime, yes I agree with stary1, very organised INDEED! I think the last two sentences apply to me but at least if I DO buy him some more it gives me an extremely good excuse to bin off the old ones!

Nooooo, lol my boyfriend will go shopping as soon as he sees he needs them. Granted they may get a bit holier then thou, but he knows to get up and get his own. I too on occasion will buy some things for him, but generally he is really good about about his own clothing. Lucky me because my ex-husband swore it was my duty to make sure he dressed appropriately. Hmm one of the many reasons he is an ex. lol

To be honest, John likes to relax at weekends and that doesn't include shopping for his underwear. That's my job lol. However, I don't really mind so long as I've got enough money.

Yes I would not mind including that as my job so as long as the person such as the ex doesn't mind handing money for them too, especially when other females got the luxury of viewing them. He never helped out with anything not even for things for himself.

I swear men are just as happy going "commando" as wearing them (until they get their short hairs in the zipper)

OMG..you can't win the "but it's comfortable" arguement.don't even try. better to just chuck it when they're not looking so they have to go buy new. i'm usually not a capital B about the holey clothes, but if it's long time shopping for the house or a dinner/event,no you are not wearing the combo of battered, stained and holey.go change that #$%^! out.

Haha! Oh how this so reminds me of me! I think I still have underwear that I started wearing when I was back at university. And my 2nd son already started kindergarten the other day! In fact, I never bought any of mine. They were bought or given to me, I could never get myself to buy new ones! Ooops, I should be embarassed.

Well, I have pants with some wear holes, but they still look good. Thats the style anyway. As far as underwear goes, I have a few with a few little hole, but nothing to brag about. I think that as long as they hold everything together, they're fine. I will get around to getting more, but when I think I need them. We men do not worry about being embarrassed, for hat reason? So what if we got into an accident and they saw our underwear.

Ha ha. Now that I think about it, you're right. My husband still wears underwear from before we got together - over 5 years ago. He says they are comfortable. Lol And I do have to make him buy more underwear and socks. If I didn't he wouldnt be wearing any. But he's starting to get better about clothes. He actually decided to buy two new pairs of pants after his others ripped again(after I had sewn them about ten times). Too bad he got them too big and refused to exchange them for the right size. But he wears them and I can finally put up all my sewing stuff. Gota love him though.

Nobody is buying my underwear and I don't buy underwear for my man either. Althoug he is asking me if I like it. But I do buy him some clothes ones in a while just because I think he will look nice in it or he might need it.

I can't remember the last time that I ought myself a pair of boxers. The Boss does that. In fact she insists on doing it and she buys her own as well. I don't tbhik that it is odd for wives to buy their husband's underwear and I do think that it's quite unusual for men to buy knickers and bras for their wife. Does John buy yours?

Just the once! I meant that when guys DO buy their ladies er, underwear it's not often they buy their own as well, whereas ladies tend to buy both.
