Glad I'm Gonna Be Away From Here For Christmas

It's not that I want to be away from John or anything. No, the reason why I'm looking forward to getting away is the fact we have 2 slates missing on our roof. No wonder it's blowing a gale upstairs lol. It all started with water dripping slightly from the bedroom ceiling. It only drips when it rains but, it needed investigating nonetheless. The upshot is my FIL has sorted a quote out for a guy to fix it for us. It may be covered by the insurance but no-one can come out until "next week" which is why I'm glad I'm out of the way. Let the guys sort it out! How come things like this ALWAYS happen just before Christmas? Remember the frozen pipes last year? Mum's had some of the rendering come off the side of the house too and the in-laws need a new boiler. Stuff like this never happens in the summer, you ever noticed that?

Oh, it's not that serious my friend. The water coming through is only a drip and happens when it rains (not when it doesn't) so it could be worse lol. I'm going to Mum's as it's nearly Christmas and it's something I always do at this time of year. John doesn't want me to miss out so he's driving me to Blackpool and him and his Dad will sort the roof out between them. I'd be in the way!

I am very sorry to hear that. The old saying, says, when it rains, it pours and that is the same way with things going wrong. We go through this stuff all of the time too.

Rain is a menace to houses. Once it gets in it's difficult to get rid of it but, at least my FIL know where the water is coming FROM, so that's a start.

Well, the cause of all this stuff probably did happen in the summer but no one notices these things until it gets cold.

Yes, you can't ran away from fixing your roofing problem. Like or dislike, you gotta fix it. Running away from that problem won't face or minimize your problem, you need to sort that out as soon as possible. I hope the guy from the insurance company would come to fix your problem, otherwise you have to live under the leak roof and you would imagine what you dealt with. Your house would be full of water and the like.

It's only me that's staying at Mum's (as I always do at Christmas) an hubby is staying behind. His Dad will help out with any arrangements with the roof as he's very good that way.

Oh, yes it does! I've had a catelogue of disasters this year, Janey! The problem is being a householder. It's a neverending nightmare of problems and expensive repairs! (When I first moved into this house 5 years ago, everything leaked, and there were buckets and bowls galore!) You just have to grin and bear it! I hope you get everything sorted out asap!

Many thanks! Hubby will be speaking to the insurance people at some point as it's not fair they're trying to drag this out into next week..then they'll make the excuse that it's Christmas. The UK stops at Christmas!

Oh you are running away from helping you FIL to fix that roof, what if after the Christmas and you came back still the roof hasn't fix yet. I say that you fix the roof with a permanent solution so that you wont encounter it in Christmas time next year.

You misunderstand. It's just me that will be at Mum's house, my husband remains here..so no, he's not running away.

hi janey yes it always happen in the coldest part of the winter and as close to Christmas as possible, and it will often cost three times what you think it will lol. catch 22 situation for sure.I hope your insurance does cover it as that will help you immensely of course. ofcourse it does not happen in the summer time when the weather is nice and friendly as that would make it all too easy. heavens nobody wants easy lol lol.

With the gales we've been having lately I'm amazed we still have a roof at all! The rain and wind was so hard on Monday night I was convinced the windows were going to blow in too. These things happen in winter because of the extremes of the weather causing damage. Also, in summer there isn't a cold breeze blowing through the house, you only notice the gaps when you feel the cold.

If all that had happened in London...End of the World as we know it lol. Yes, it was very windy the other night. Not sure if the tiles came off then but it wouldn't surprise me. Hopefully, they'll be sorted out by the time I get back from Mum's just before New Year!

Yes it does eh?! I just paid way too much for a transmission fix on my van. Last year it was the brakes. It's always right about this time when you've got a million other bills and things to buy. Sometimes I wonder how we ever survive? Hope you got that roof fixed already!
