The first New Year's Eve I have celebrated for a few years..I'm excited.

So for the past few years, I have pretty much stayed at home on New Year's Eve. I have been perfectly content with being home and usually in bed before midnight..lol. This year, however, I have decided to celebrate. I am going out of town to a show of some musicians that me and my b/f are friends with. They invited us and the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to go. I have rented a room right across the street from where the show is and I am looking forward to ringing in the New Year. I think it is a good chance to "get away" for the night too. I have always heard the what you are doing at midnight is what you will be doing the rest of the year. Maybe having some fun is what I need to add to 2012. Maybe I will catch a good picture or two to share with everyone. How long has it been since you have rang in the New Year? Are you usually one to celebrate or are you content with a relaxing night at home?

Hi JenInTN So the lore is not just an Indian thing I was always told what you are doing at midnight is what you will be doing the rest of the year here too and that makes me feel the world is the same all over It would be really great to see that photograph. I normally stay awake each night until 2:00 or 3:00 am so the new year doesnt make anything that special for me. I prefer relaxing at home as it is much of a crowd at the normal places I can opt for (the hotels, restaurants or even the Party places) but I prefer to stay away from the crowd specially during the Celebrations things. I would prefer to spend the night in the bed under the warm blanket. But it hasnt been happening since the past 3 years. Still works out good for me. Wishing you A Healthy and Prosperous 2012 dear.

It is doing what we love or want that really rings it in bagarad! Perhaps "doomed" is a strong word We can always implement a little fun in there...come on down.

I guess if the saying is true, I'm doomed to a year of work, since I normally work late on writing or on Zazzle New Year's Eve and well into New Year's Day.

Hi Jen! Wish you a very Happy New Year ! You appear to have grand plans for New year celebrations. I do hope that you will enjoy the show with your friend and will have a gala time. I prefer to stay at home on New Year's Eve and celebrate New Year's arrival watching TV programmes.

Hi Jen, I am quite conent to spend New Year's Eve at home. For many years, when I was a pro musician, I was always working - one of the busiest nights of the year for me. Of course, I needed to stay sober as I had to drive to and from my gigs and then focus on what I was playing. When musicians were slowly replaced by canned (recorded) music, I had to re-think my career and that was when I went re-trained as a psychotherapist. Whilst there was still music work around, I worked for a couple of years and then suddenly I found that I could be the one to party, which I did for a while and must admit I thoroughly enjoyed it. Gradually I began to feel less and less inclined to do it. I had seen it from both sides (the entertainer and the entertained), and started to feel that is was a little samey and in my mind, over-rated. I guess it was a case of familiarity breeding contempt - but maybe contempt is too strong a word.. More like a case of it devolving to "another New Year? So what?", sort of feeling. I hope you have a great time and really enjoy yourself, and I look forward to seeing your pictures in 2012.. Happy New Year to you and you b/f... _Derek

I can understand the lack of excitement for sure. Years ago I used to be a baretender and the past thing I wanted was to spend my days off or holidays at bar. I lost interest in going out on New Year's Eve a while back too. It was nice to do something different this year though. I am one to like to mix up a little sometimes. Thanks and I hope you have a great New Year too Derek.

Good for you! And I hope that the new year is full of fun for you as well. I haven't been out to celebrate the new year for probably about fifteen years. I am content to set home. I may have a drink or two, i don't know. I usually watch the ball fall on Time Square and they usually have one that shows it all over the world which i enjoy too. Hope you have a fun night.

Same here, I've been sleeping through the last 3 New Years and since this one falls on a Saturday I really want to go party but it's really a bad week since I don't get paid till next week. There are lots of concerts and shows going on in Vegas but it's all very spendy. Maybe we go to our local bar and ring in the New Year...happy New Year to you and have a blast

Oh missy..I am glad that you are getting out. It is convenient that it falls on the weekend but I have thought about the crowd factor. I bet that Vegas is really hopping! It was hopping when I was there before and there was no particular holiday going on. I do hope that you have a great New Year!

Looking at your avatar which gives out your age it is normal for you to have a blast. That you did not do it earlier needs analysis! As for me it is just another day. But that 'just another day' is always packed with activity which I would not like to trade with anything in the world. Enjoy yourself and make it a night to remember!

I should have been having fun but to be honest most of the time I was just plain too tired to stay up all night. I am actually a bit old to be staying up all night. The times I have I have really felt the difference form being younger and doing it. I do hope that you have a wonderful New Year and that your activity is fun and fulfilling. Thanks!

Hi cher! Sometimes a difference of any kind is a good thing. I had a great time but next year...I will probably do the same thing you did. It had been forever since I had rang in the New Year out. Thanks for sharing!

Sounds like you are going to have some fun! We were invited out but I am sure that we will be home. The husband never wants to be out and he always wants the kids home too. Of course, our oldest is on her own now and so she won't be here, but the youngest will be. I won't get to go to bed because of the youngest but as soon as midnight hits I will. I always try to make the best of the night even though we are home doing nothing!

I can honestly only remember one year that I actually "celebrated" the new year, and that was one year my ex and I threw a party at our house, but I also told everyone it was a surprise party for his birthday, which was in a couple of days.......can't even remember now. It was a good time, even if there were only a few guests, but the ones there made it fun. Otherwise, I am with family and the last several years have babysat for the grandkids. Have heard nothing from any of them so might be sitting here all alone...........not unusual. I do remember another year that my bf, at the time, and I, had gone to sleep, heard the fireworks going off, woke up and said happy new year and went back to sleep. Hope you have a great time with your musician friends and your bf.

I didn't last year, but I did the year before. Never do anything really too special. Back when my family would get together, we'd eat and be merry and jovial and watch the ball drop together, or some might leave before that but still. This year, not going to happen. My niece and nephew will be around though and maybe they'll stay up to see it drop, or at the very least I may wake them up 20 minutes before and they can watch it and go back to sleep. They have school in a few days so shh can't tell their mama!

As a family, we've always celebrated new year with a midnight meal. A couple of years ago, we went to a group party at a hotel downtown. Although it was fun, I still prefer the celebration at home. It's great that you'll be out in the town this year. And it's great that you've decided to incorporate some fun. Maybe it's true! That by doing this, you'll be incorporating more fun for the rest of the year.

That sounds fun! I've never done that before. I always wanted to go see the ball drop in Times Square, but it's cold and now that I'm older, I'm not sure I want to. What if I had to use the bathroom? Yikes! An with my luck, that would be exactly what happens! Usually I stay home with the family on New Years Eve and have a couple snacks. This year, my boyfriend is coming over and we can kiss on the stroke of midnight. That would be the highlight of my night.

Hi Jen, It has been literally years since I celebrated New Years like that! I usually end up working it and am going to this year. A few years ago, I did have the night off and I was dating this guy and we planned on going to a party. I was pretty excited because it was the first New Years eve i'd had off in so long. Well, he got very drunk very early on in the day and never showed. I still don't even want to talk about it. Anyway, sounds like you are in for a great time! I hope you over indulge and have the time of your life! Have a very Happy New Year, Jen!!

Hi Jen, Glad you had a great time. These things are fun if you share them with the right people which is probably why a part of me always anticipates a good time ....because I've had some great times. I celebrated Christmas Eve and really over-indulged that night and had a really fun time. I don't do it often so it's all good. I'm ok with working on New Years Eve. The paycheck will be excellent next week and who couldn't use that after the holidays? I love the holidays but I'm so glad they are over right about now.

I'm glad too. I think that a couple of great holidays in a month are certainly enough to last the rest of the year. That extra money will be nice. I am going on the 7 day a week thing when I go back to work. It's tough but after the holidays, I can use that money too. Uncle Sam will be happy too.

very good, and exciting plan you have there. i will never spend the new years eve on bed. if i were back home we will be all busy barbecuing and jumping around with my son. i hope you have a great new years eve. you really need a break and add that spice to your 2012. this is my second new years eve in a row working abroad. i miss the celebrations on holidays like this. but of course i am thankful that i have work. but on the other hand... you enjoy my friend. looking forward to reading on what happened with your new year.

We are usually at home but we usually have a few friends over. It is low key but we play some board games and eat some unhealthy yummy food. It is nice. I actually ate too much yummy food last night and ended up throwing up at around 2:00 in the morning, my stomach is still pretty upset right now. We did have a nice time though, we played one game that was kind of funny.

hi dear Jen hubby and me are very content staying at home for New Years Eve. The living room still looks nice as we picked up real good for Christmas, we have a weird little tradition of making small snacks like baked onion rings, mini meatballs, filled mushroome we bought frozen so its only popping them into the oven just like the other delicacies so its no fuss no work and not much to clean up. LOL

Hi JenInTN, We have also told about the same thing... what you are doing at midnight is what you will be doing the rest of the year Maybe that explains why everyone in here is welcoming the New YEar with a blast. Preparing so much food and spreading happiness I usually celebrate it with my family at home ... but whenever I am away with them for some work, I spent it alone or with some roomies. Happy New Year and I am sure you have enjoyed watching the show.
