The lawyer kicked him and the crew off the job. Now their all out of work... For all who dont know my husband got hurt at work on a saw. He had surgery on his hand and hes in a cast. We finally found a lawyer to take the case and they called to let the general contractor know that my husbands boss has no workers comp insurance. So the contractor kicked Chris and the whole crew off the job! I know if he had insurance he wouldnt have been kicked off the job but I feel bad for the innocent guys especially the ones that have a family with kids. We didnt want anyone to be out of work we just wanted his medical bills to be taken care of... Would you feel bad for the guys too?

I guess I would feel bad that this happened to the other workers. But, I would not feel responsible. The reason the lawyer told the general contractor about it, is so that what happened to your husband would not happen to the others. Also they don't want people working for them that have no insurance and that don't take care of the workers.

I am more like you and I would feel bad too. But, I think the general contractor did the right thing when he found out the person did not have insurance for his workers. I would make sure when your husband finds another job, that he makes sure they have insurance. Good luck

I know, I cant help feeling bad. Thats just me I guess... It might have saved the others from the same headache, I hope so. I know Chris should feel responsible. I just hope the other guys find another job. And I pray Chris doesnt do this again because I would hate for someone to go through what we have been through! Thank goodness we now have a lawyer and I hope they help us!

I feel sorry for the guys who lost their jobs; BUT, working for someone who does not have workmans comp is VERY dangerous. If he is cutting corners by not having the insurance what other "corners" is he cutting? Also, if he does not have workman's comp and they get hurt or disabled on the job, they could lose everything. Without workman's comp they have nothing to cover medical expenses, lost time, or even disability payments if they are never able to work again. Social security only covers permanent disability and then ONLY after a minimum of 6 months - how many people can afford to go with out work for 6 months or more AND have to pay medical bills and/or a lawyer?

Good luck with that; because, the odds are that he will not even have the money to pay a fraction of any judgement found against him.

It is very dangerous that is true. That is also true, there are probably other things that he was "cheating" on. Very true again about people affording medical care and lawyers, not many people can afford all of that. The only reason we could get a lawyer is because they dont get paid until we do. Otherwise we would never have been able to afford one!

I would feel bad for the guys...but still in all he needed to carry insurance...here in Minnesota it's a law..now your husband is out of work and in debt....that should have all been taken care of...I bet the guy made enough money to pay for workers comp..... he just didn't want to part with the money. So bad for all the workers...hopefully the contractor will pick them up and hire them.

I know he should have. Its illegal here too if you have more than three guys working for you. Which he had 8-10 people. Very illegal. Unfortunately the other guys just like my husband didnt know he had no insurance. If they did they probably would have found another job! Our lawyer is trying to get us help now. Their trying to get our medical bills paid and trying to get him workers comp through the general contractor. Yeah he just didnt want to pay for the insurance and taxes!! Hopefully the guys will find another job soon!

Ofcourse I would feel bad for the other guys out of work. But, this is just one more reason to sure this guy. He shouldn't have a crew working without workmen's comp for them. In my state he could get into alot of trouble. And if you sue him maybe it will help for your state to have the same laws.

We are suing him. Thats why we got a lawyer and he is in a lot of trouble! Our lawyer is not backing down at all. The second day they had the case they got him off the job! More than anyone else did already. I do feel bad for the innocent guys though but maybe we saved them from their own headaches.

It is not your husband's fault that his boss Chris was irresponsible. In construction people do get hurt sometimes and the boss should have insurance to take care of the crew in case of accidents like this. I think Chris is obligated to pay the medical bills since your husband got hurt on the job. I know you feel bad for the other workers, but Chris should be the one to blame since he does not have insurance.

I know it wasnt his fault. I guess I just didnt realize it would put so many innocent guys out of work in this terrible economy! Some with kids... He definitely should have had insurance because he had more than five guys working for him. Chris was a subcontractor since he didnt have insurance or enough money to cover it we have to go through the general contractor now. Their also in trouble because their supposed to make sure their subs have insurance!

Oh sorry for your husband. But I also pity the innocent workers. I can understand why you feel bad because you and your husband are the one who cause this people to lose their jobs. Well Chris(your husbands' boss, right?) deserves it as he didn't provide insurance to the workers. Well I just hope those guys will soon find another work.

Thank you. Hopefully he will get better and not be disabled forever from this. Yeah we kind of caused it because we told that he had no insurance. We need the medical bills paid and that was the only way we could get them... Unfortunately. Chris should have had insurance and he didnt so it was his fault but I feel bad for the other guys...I hope they find another job too!

That's sad! I hope your husband gets better soon. And be normal again as soon as the cast been removed. Yeah you just did the right thing. Better to do some thing before anyone there gets hurt too.

While I feel badly for the guys, this will force the employer to straighten up his act. It could actually work out to the benefit of the other guys. So try not to feel badly. You guys might end up saving other people the same trouble you're in now because of that guy.

I do feel bad for them too. They didn't know he had no insurance just like we didn't. Its not like the boss will tell you that you know? Then no one would work for him. So I do feel bad for the innocent ones. I don't feel bad for the boss at all, he should have known better and he has gotten away with no insurance since 2005!! He should be counting his lucky stars that nothing happened before now!

I know you feel bad, or even uncomfortable with the other guys, but that's beside the point. The issue was that the boss had no workers comp insurance. And it's unfortunate that your husband had to get into an accident before this issue was brought to light. Now he may be paying a lot more, just because he wanted to save on some premiums.

I know your absolutely right. Maybe we saved them some headaches... The good news for us is that we did finally get a lawyer that got us workmans comp through the general contractor instead of the boss. And hes no longer working for them so hopefully he wont do it to anyone else...

I would feel bad also. But if that contractor does not have workers comp, then I bet he is a fly by night company and will not be around long at all, meaning the other guys would have been out of work anyway.

So if I understand it well.. your husband (Chris) had an accident. You took a lawyer to get the medical bills payed, the contractor or lawyer? found out your husband and most other workers had no insurance and now they are all jobless? I assume nobody payed for the medical bills? The contractor doesn't need to pay anything? This is a hard one. I don't know what the contract says. If the job been done safely. Where there safety rules at all? If it comes to a health insurance I assume everybody is responsible for himself. The fact they all are kicked out (is the lawyer allowed to do so?) has surely to do with the kind of job and the risks involved. The crew should be aware of that. Especially if they have a family. As proved by now you could have need an insurance. Especially since the contractor doesn't seem to care about the workers their health and don't has an insurance for them. It's hard to say I would not feel quilty although I don't think there is reason for it. But I would fight on a bit longer to find out who has which rights and if it's possible to get something payed. It is already worse enough as it is.

My husband is not Chris. Chris was my husband's boss who had no insurance in case someone got hurt on the job. My husband got hurt on the job and we got a lawyer so the medical bills will be taken care of. Now because that is illegal not to have insurance Chris and his crew got kicked off the job. I don't feel bad for the boss because he should have been carrying insurance. I DO feel bad for the guys that were working for him and didn't know that he had NO insurance... No if your an employee at a company the employer is responsible for you and your health if you get hurt on the job which my husband did. My husband has the rights and so now we are suing and my husband will be getting workers comp to take care of the medical bills and such...
