Keeping track of the words you type on mylot

Hi All, I just got this bright (not sure how bright) idea to keep track of how much I type in a day. Right now I’ve typed a little over 900 words in my responses. It will be interesting for me to find out the relationship between my money earned and my words typed. The more we type the more we get paid, so I’m just curious. I think I will be doing this for a few days to see just how much I do to earn a dollar here. I earned a dollar a couple of days ago and a little less than that yesterday. I have to write in Word anyway when I post to Mylot because sometimes my post gets lost and I have to type all over again. To rectify that I just write on Word and then paste it over. If my writing gets lost I can just repaste it back into the box and submit again. Instead of deleting what I have written today, I just make new entries on Word and keep track of everything I’ve written. As of this moment in time I have written 1087 words today. Do you write in Word first before posting? I bet you do if you tend to lose posts like I do. Your thoughts Mylotters?

Are you sure that MyLot pays per the number of words in your post? I ask this because I get the same pay for my long worded, 200 or more word, posts as I do for my 8 or 10 word posts.

I misunderstood what you were saying there. I thought I was right when I figured we got paid for posting but not just for words we typed.

No mylot doesn’t pay per word… I’m just saying the more I type the more money I make, so I’m keeping up with it.

Hello, just wanted to chime in on one aspect of your post. If you are going to try and determine how much you are paid "per word" here, you will never get a consistent rate to show. It is about accumulated activity rather than specific rates for specific quantity.

Hi GoAskAlice, No, that's not what I'm trying to do... it's just for curiosity's sake for me. I'm not trying to figure out how mylot does anything. I know it is for all participation. I noticed the more I type the more I get paid. I mainly put everything in Word anyway because of posts getting lost. I just didn't delete the previous entries on Word and decided to see how much I type in a day and then just compare it to what I earn in tomorrow's earnings.

On the subject of participation, I'm just wondering if reading posts count towards "accumulated activity" at all. I got immersed in some discussions sometimes, and before I realized I've been reading posts for hours. I wonder if I just simply wasted my own time doing that, or if I am somewhat participating at all.

I don't lose posts as much as I used to but I used to write in word first because of that. I don't know how much I've done today but it's probably around 1000 words if not more. It'd be interesting to see how much I do and help me see how much I need to do to get a good amount.

Hi SomeCowgirl, I’ve never thought of keeping track before, but now I am surely interested because on days that I don’t enter a lot of discussions but I type a large amount in the ones I do, I still seem to make pretty good. So today I just want to keep track of all the words I type.

Back when we were losing a lot of out posts, I made it a habit to write in the response box. Then before posting I do an Alt+A to highlight All, followed by Alt+C to copy it. Then if my post gets lost, all I need do is go to the response box & hit Alt+V to paste it back in. I know you remember back when about 50% of our posts just disappeared into the Bermuda Triangle. Now it has become such a habit that I don't even think about it...I just automatically do it!!! It is very simple...especially when my wording becomes lengthy!!! Sometimes I also do the copy part way through what I'm saying just in case. It has saved me a TON of headaches!!!

lady marissa then that does the same thing as I do in hitting copy on the right tab on the mouse then paste if necessary,I mean my stuff goes on the clipboard,is that where your copy goes too? my son had showed that but I had forgotten the combo, sounds simpler than what I was doing perhaps.

Yes, sounds like you're doing the same thing. I'm a tad lazy & with my way I don't have to stop & reach for my mouse. I can go from typing to the copy function without missing a beat!!! The posts disappearing seems to have stopped or atleast slowed down considerably since the last myLot upgrade. However, by then, it had become such a habit that I was doing it without thinking. It just means I'm covered IF anything does go wrong!!!

I didn't know the Alt+A for highlight all... thanks for that. I know the alt+c and alt+v.. I use that in some writing places that don't allow the mouse.

How do you keep track of your words? I think this could be a great idea! I'd be interested in hearing how it goes for you. As for where I write, often I write directly on the site where I am posting to. I've not experienced (so far) any posts getting lost. Although I see today I had a response to my cat attack and someone has gone and deleted it, but I didn't receive an email telling me why? Has that ever happened to anyone?

I just write everything in Word and leave it there. The word count shows up at the bottom. Then the next post I just go down below it. It’s not going to show a whole lot about pay and word count.. I’m just interested in how much I type in a day and how much I make. I know when I don’t type so much I don’t make as much… it’s not going to give an accurate count of pay per post or anything.. or even pay per word…it’s just going to give me a ratio.. I guess.

hi pq and sassybrat not somebody deleted it. so many newer pepple get riled and think a bunch of us my lotters do nothing but go around deleting respnses. we cannot delete anyones responses only the mylot admins can so don't feel any mylotter is doing that to you as we cannot do that. thank goodness for that. only admins can delete something and they will eventually get you a notification on it.the person who wrote the response will be the only one whom mylot admins will tell why it was deleted sadly, sometimes I wonder too.If you had made a comment on the response that was deleted you would get a sort of explanation then as your comment being on the response will go byebye with the response.I have got those and was confused til I read the text they showed of the response and realized I was not penalized but just lost my comment as the person posting the response had broken some mylot rule and they did tell me why it was deleted. hope this helps. hugs from hatley.

I do not have "word" on my laptop. I need to get it, I think. I agree that just like wearing a pedometer to keep track of steps and find encouragement, that would do it for our writing.

Yeah, it would be like a pedometer for our writing… sure enough! I have word on both my laptops. I have 2010 on my little one and 2007 on this one.

It’s really fun for me to just keep a running tab of how much I write for fun. Mylot is just plain fun for me and it is like a kind of therapy for me too.

My goodness! I am going to start doing this right now..I typically respond to like 50 discussions per day on average so I bet mine is up there. Depending on how chatty I feel I suppose. It would be interesting to keep track of. Although, what do you do, copy and paste everything you type into a Notepad or Wordpad, and get the word count from there? Or...? That seems like an awful lot of extra work!

It seems like the chattier I am the better my daily earnings. I’m going to keep up with this for a few days and see how it goes with me. Some days I don’t do a lot of posts but I leave long responses on the ones I do respond to and I do fairly well also.

hi dear Pointless Questions thats a great idea. I am too lazy to first type my answers in word and then just copy and paste them here so I pay for this laziness with posts disappearing now and then.

I did it for a couple of days... today and yesterday I didn't do it. I just selected and copied everything I entered into the box in case I lose it. I made 80 cents yesterday and don't know how much I typed.

I also am a type who likes to keep track of things; but I found out that I don't have the privilege to "copy and paste" yet. So I have to type up all my posts for now. There were times when they got lost, and I got annoyed to have to retype all. Once I gain the privilege, I'll probably do some longer posts as needed.

Yes, that is annoying when you don’t have the privilege to copy and paste. I’ve lost things then too… I wanted to scream! Now after a few times of losing things I do it this way.

I do have fun here. It is a great pass time for me. It’s a great way to wind down from a hard day of writing too. Sometimes I go to sleep early and then wake up in the middle of the night. I will get on here and pass the time away until I feel like going back to sleep again.

I actually hadn't thought of keeping track of the number of words I write, or of the posts that I write, or things like that. I have lost a few of my posts, but it hasn't been many.

I hadn’t thought of it either until yesterday… it’s just for fun. I’m interested in how much I type in a day here… so far I have written over 2540 words since I got up today… I’ve not been here all day or it might have been double that.

PQ: How are you madam? Hope your health is improving. fine. It is advisable to type in word first topic wise, date wise and they copy and paste in the mylot box. People who have done 500+ can do that. Others will have to type fully in mylot box. However, quality of responses also matter a lot . If we type a very lengthy response and the quality is not good then possible we may not earn more. have an excellent day.

Right, I try to have a quality response in everything I type. If I can’t then I don’t respond. It’s as simple as that. Some topics I can type a lot and some I can only leave a couple of lines. If I can’t say more than a line, I rarely respond.

Hello PQ, No i never use word to type my response as rarely i have a problem with my net connection or i did not try to check how much we are paid for each word we type.Yes i understand how irritating it is when we write our whole response and suddenly it is lost.

I have never really thought about keeping track of it but I should try that! I do either type it in word or write it in a notebook or something...I have lost responses and such when the red words come up, unable to post content! That drives me nutty. Lol.

I know! It drove me nuts too. Another good thing about writing in Word is that it automatically capitalizes the first word if I happen to miss it. It will automatically spell a lot of words with autocorrect and that is a great feature.
