Coupon usage

I see more people using coupons, then years ago. We all have so many things that we need like food, roof over our heads, electricity, gas and some form of transportation. I have used coupons for many years and it really helps me save a lot of money. We do buy some generic products, as I price the item with or without the coupon and buy the better deal. I'm wondering how many of you trade coupons? I do and it helps me get more coupons for the products that are used more in my household allowing me to stock up. Stocking up means less trips to the store and that is less unnecessary purchases. One kind of coupon I'm using a lot more are internet printed coupons, as all of the stores that we shop at are accepting them. I wish they would double them, but Target accepts one of them and a Sunday Coupon, so that is close to doubling many times. Do you use more coupons today, then years ago. Do you use internet printed coupons?

I usually look through the weekly flyers for the stores we get here in the mail and see what sort of deals they have and then try to stock up on the best deal items. I don't print coupons from the internet. Couponing in canada is not at the same level as in US...

I'm certain it would be challenging for me to save the large amounts I save on my grocery bill, if I lived in Canada. I always save at least 50%. Thanks for the reply.

I do not trade coupons but I give them away. I bring them to work to my employees and put them in the breakroom. I only keep the ones I know I can use. They certainly help me with my grocery bills.

That is a great way to help employees save money. I do give coupons away, as this weekend the lady in front of me was buying a product that I had a coupon for and she gladly used it saving a $1.00 more on her groceries. Thanks for the reply.

That is great made me feel wonderful knowing others make a difference for people that don't have a coupon with them. My daughter used her phone at Michaels a craft store to help a couple of people save money last month. I was thrilled, as it made me feel proud to see my daughter had learned well from me.

I just helped an older woman today at Payless. She was ahead of me in line and bought expensive sneakers. I went after but she was slow to leave and heard me say I have a coupon on my cell phone for 20 pct off. She asked how she could get one. They told her to sign up. I asked if she returned her purchase could she use my coupon too and they got the manager and she said yet. The woman saved about 8 dollars. She had tears in her eyes while thanking me. Made my day!

I've used a coupleof internet printed coupons, but I mostly use regular coupons that I find int he paper or that come off the boxes of things. Sometimes I sign up to receive them in the mail. Everything is getting more expensive and I'm really trying to watch my money.

I agree about the rising costs and the bad part is wages aren't going up fast. Now I'm seeing people use coupons that used zero years ago. Thanks for the reply.

I've been using a lot of coupons as well. Not as many as I'd liked, but all I can get from the Sunday newspaper. And usually the ones I get when I go to Super Target I'll use again. I haven't really tried to use internet coupons because someone told me they had trouble getting the store to take them. Have you ever had a problem?

I have never had a problem at Target and be sure to check their web site, as some of my free products have been coupons on their web site. Last year, I even printed coupons to get free kids games, which I donated. I have had trouble using internet printed in past years, but not this year. Stores have been happy to see people are visiting their web sites, as many of the grocery stores are putting coupons on their sites now. Thanks for the reply.

I use some coupons. In fact, I even have a coupon binder. However, many coupons that are out there are for thing that are unhealthy, unnecessary and/or overpriced. My preference is to shop producers-only farmers' markets and farm stands when possible. The money then goes directly to the producer, rather than the farmer only getting a small fraction of the price. We are members of a CSA. This means a steady supply of fresh, local, organic veggies throughout the season. The cost is less than what we would spend at the supermarket, and the money is going directly to sustain local organic agriculture. When choosing what I buy, I try to look at the real price--not just the price tag. If I subsist on heavily processed foods, I will be sickly and have to pay higher health care costs. If I eat a healthier diet, health care costs will be less; also, I should be more productive (possibly leading to greater income), since a healthier diet makes me feel better.

I use to belong to a group that would trade locally grown fruit and vegetables. It really saved a lot of money on produce. This area I do visit farm stands and farmers markets knowing the farmers have a hard time making ends meet. I use to be a farmer, so I know about the long hours working in the fields. Now I do grow a garden using zero pesticides and share with others. Thanks for the reply.

I hear that in the U.S. you can save a lot of money with couponing. If I had a chance I would do that too. In my country there are a few sales where you can save a little money, but couponing is not significant at all. I can almost only get coupons for things that would be totally useless for me to buy.

I have heard many people say there are few good coupons in other countries. I'm in an area where the housing is so costly that to live here we must find ways to save money. My husbands job is here, so we work hard to save on the areas that we can lower our bills. Thanks for the reply.

It's perfectly fine to save money the way you can - it's more difficult to control bills, rent or travel costs for example. We don't really use coupons here, but we can get a lot of cheap fruits or veggies that grow in the summer and autumn, then we can make canned food for the winter.

i do sometimes but here in Canada, we can't go to the extreme like they do in the US and more often than not, i find that the store brand is cheaper than the brand name item is even with the cents off coupons. our stores don't offer store loyalty programs either.

I think many people find store brands are cheaper and buy them. My area is one of the places where name brands out sell store brands, as we can double coupons. I think that is one reason the name brand companies put up sample tables with coupons to get us hooked on their brands. Thanks for the reply.

I used to use more when the kids were home....now living by myself I don't have a great need for alot of things....I live kind of a simple life. If it were for something I needed for crafting I certainly would use them more. But for groceries I really don't buy alot. Working full time alot of my meals are eaten outside my house. I do use coupons for that once in a while.

I do use coupons at Subway and Michaels, a craft store where I can get 50% off by using a coupon. Thanks for the reply.

I have always couponed...it has its moments! THese days with just two of us, I don't buy as much anymore so many of the coupons I don't use. I clip maybe 4-5 from the sunday paper...not worth the price of the paper! I print them online and go to particular web site for them. I do 1 main shopping trip a month and save about $30. Rest of the month is just for stuff like milk and fresh stuff. Coupons are good..problem is...no store in my area doubles them..haven't in MANY years! But every little bit helps.

I agree every little bit helps. Two of my local grocery stores doubles coupons, so its easier for me to pay for the paper using coupons. Thanks for the reply.

Actually, I think I use less. When I was a kid my Mom and her cousin dumpster dove for coupons. However since Aldi has come into the area when I was a teenager and been an adult I've learned to know what's a good price and what isn't. The only truly good coupon out there is $1 off or free and how many of those are in the paper now days very few. I think being price savvy is the best way to do things and if you have a paper or print coupons comparing as you described is a good idea to know wwhere you can get the better guy at.

I don't print coupons but I do load them onto my loyalty card. It's costly to print coupons and as few as I use I can't justify the expense. Besides, there are rarely coupons that I can use. I don't buy junk food, diapers, baby products, makeup, paper towels or the many other things they make coupons for. And buying generic usually saves more than a name brand with a coupon. So I don't print coupons. On the rare occasion when I do find one I can use at Savings Star I load it onto my Kroger card and try to remember to use it!

I love Savings Star, as its so easy to use. It does mean you don't have to carry coupons with you and that does make it easier when I send my husband to the store. Thanks for the reply.
