How Many of You make your own cooking and baking mixes?

I just made my biscuit mix this morning and was wondering how many other people make them. I dont mean just making homemade biscuits. I acturaly make a mix and store it to use for the next week or more. I make my own biscuit, bisquick, cocoa, cake, and other mixes. I make them in large quanities and store them in air tight containers. My biscuit mix has to be stored in the fridge but it is so much better than commercial mixes. I have tons of recipes that I use on a regular basis. I also make gifts in a jar for gifts as well as for my own personal use. I made the cookie, cake, brownie and other wonderful mixes and layer them in a jar. When I need to make a quick snack. I have everthing that I need all ready to mix up. I would be willing to share my recipes if anyone is interested. They are frugal, delicious and quick. Do you make your own mixes? Are you interested in any recipes to learn how to make your own mixes?

I will be looking forward to you posting some of your recipes. I like to make a big batch of cookie dough and keep it in the fridge. Then I will make some cookies, fresh baked are always so good. We devour them quick. My grandson is a cookie monster, haha.

I love to make mixes ahead and use them. I also make cookie dough and keep it for those quick cookies. I think you will love the mixes and gifts in jar. Have you ever did the gifts in a jar before. They are great for yourself or for gifts. I give them as gifts and everyone just loves them. I make them for myself also.

I love gifts in a jar,I usually make up baskets for those people you don't know what to get them. These fit in so well, and I usually cross stitch lid covers to dress them up a little.

I add them to gift baskets also. I have made alot of gifts in a mug for college kids. They just love them. Both gifts in a jar and gifts in a mug are always well received.

Wow, that is so cool. Would you mind sharing some mixes that you layer in a jar for a gift. Sounds wonderful. Thank you so much. I make from scratch, that's about it.

I don't store my mixes, but that is a really good idea, when I have more time, I will have to start doing that. I already do that with Pankcake mix though.

I am making up a few batches of bisquit mix and plan on giving it as a gift to my kids. They can also use it for pancakes. With both of us not working, times are tough and we need to cut corners. I look forward to your posts. Thank you.

These acturally are wonderful gifts. My sister in laws ask for my mixes every year for their birthday. They work and dont have time to make their own. Homemade is so much better. Have you made the biscuit mix yet? They will love it.

There is a recipe for nearly, if not all mixes that you purchase commerically. Homemade is so much better and better for you.

I would really enjoy it if you posted more recipes. One of my goals for the new year is to get away from using so many prepackaged foods. My grandma was such a wonderful cook and now I really wish I had paid more attention and learned more from her.

I have always cooked from scratch, and am starting to post recipes using whole fresh foods. Ask if there is something you would like; I may well know it.

Wow, it sounds like you are frugal and quite the cook. I would love to make more of my own mixes and I love all of your posts. I am actually a distributor of homemade food mixes. The company is great and all of their mixes are great! Do you sell any of yours?

I do not sell them. I use them for my own family and also give them as gifts.

I own two cookbooks;Make A Mix Cookery and More Make A Mix Cookery by Karine Eliason, Nevada Harward and Madeline Westover. I used them more when my children were younger but want to start using them again . Recently my daughter pulled out one of the cookbooks and made up a biscuit mix.It sure was nice to have the mix on hand .So I am planning to look for more recipes to use . I also have a recipe called a Master Mix.I could not begin to tell you the author . It was a recipe passed along to Tupperware Consultants. We used it to promote their largest canister at the time ( circa 1982) My reason for using my own mix would be two fold . I could control some of the ingredients that go in to the mix . i.e. margarine without trans fats . Ssecondly I like to save money when I can .Food costs are always soaring but our income does not . I try for the most part to avoid mixes and processed foods. I do use omse of them but try to not to over do it because they are not always that healthy and they can really up the cost of your groceries .

I used to make my own cooking and baking mixes all the time, but got lazy. I'm going to get back into it, though, because it's cheaper. Please do share your recipes, as I've lost most of mine!

I have always baked from scratch and have not used mixes in some 35 years, so it has never occurred to me to make mixes. I do not see any reason to do so.

I love to make my own mixes. I have bottles, jars and freezer bags all over my house full of things. I am determined to get out of debt this year- except for my house of course. I have never found a book that told me how to do them. I experiment and then write it down when I get it right. I will have to go scour local book stores and see what I can find. This might make my life so much easier.
