How often are you supposed to trim your bushes?

We have 2 bouganvillas, 2 hibiscus, and an esparanza. They look like they need to be trimmed, but if I trim them, I'll have to cut off all the blooms. Should I wait to trim them so I can enjoy the blooms, or just trim them now?...
