Snowed in? Or snow peas?

If you know me, you know I'm a little bit snow-pea-obsessed right now. The ones on my balcony are doing great. The ones at the preschool in Berkeley are about 6" high. The ones at my one kid client's house (the same kid as the one who almost got run over by a skidding car) are about 18" long now, and he and his mom are excited about that.
Two days ago, I noticed that the ones I planted near the chain link fence in our garden at work in Concord are starting to poke through. This is the same garden that the ground squirrels destroyed last year, during the drought. It's raining again today. My hope is that the ground squirrels won't eat our garden until the rains stop and their yummy grasses start to die. We'll see.
How's the weather where you are? Any planting going on? I emailed my brother near Boston to see if he's under a foot of snow. But he hasn't responded. My Auntie IS snowed in on Long Island. I'll attach a "'wishful thinking" photo: our snow peas doing well in Oakland a couple of years ago.

Very nice, @TheHorse ! Excuse me a moment while I finish rescuing everyone from where @vandana7 got you all lost! I still need to tag @mommaj so she can find her way out, too!
Now, to finish my comment on your snow peas... You did very well with them a couple of years ago, didn't you?! I do hope the ground squirrels don't eat them before you get to taste at least one, pony!
We had snow here a couple of days ago. It is lingering here, but surrounding communities have mostly thawed out now.
The weatherman is predicting more to come in the next few days for my area, too. He isn't expecting much, so the people here are getting ready to be buried under an avalanche of snow, possibly until Spring! (LOL! The weatherman is ALWAYS wrong, so most of us expect the opposite of whatever he says... It works, too.....about half the time! LOL!)

@DaddyEvil Is he the same one saying the snow stopped in surrounding areas?
Let's see. About the time you thaw out, pony should have vegetables. Is that a coincidence or are you some type of plant? Maybe a venus flytrap?
@TheHorse it sounds like you should do nicely with the garden this year. Guess only time will tell. Feed the squirrels nuts so they leave your stuff alone. LOL You should certainly be able to find enough nuts around here to fill a swimming pool. OOOh. Pool party I will be one too!

@mommaj No, he isn't the one who said how the surrounding communities are doing, mommaj. I drive through them every day, so I see them myself, so I was reporting what I know as fact, Not what is reported by know-nothings!

I love snow peas, we plant snow peas, snap peas, and I think another variety of peas but the name escapes me. I hope the squirrels don't get yours.

I thought to plant some garlic before the big freeze happened. I was too late. Oh well. Guess I will keep buying it at 70 cents a bulb. Can't wait to start my plants for our garden. Don't want to start them too soon.

We are not snowed in, and it is time to begin thinking about starting things indoors to be ready by mid April to go out. We are just beginning to decide where we are going to plant things.

@GardenGerty I still have to decide what I want to plant out this year! You are about the same growing zone as us if you are getting ready to plant starts inside for transplanting in April, GG!
I hope everything does well for you!

There is lots going around here as gardening is my passion but I must tell you about this tomato plant.
A member from a gardening forum had sent me tomato seeds all the way from UK. I got two crops and the third one did not germinate. I planted a tithonia in that pot but I now see a tomato plant and am keeping my fingers crossed hoping that I will get my third crop

@TheHorse Somehow tomatoes never grew in my garden. This is my first attempt.

Hopefully the squirrels won't get to your snow peas again! I hope your brother is safe where he lives. No snow here, just sunshine today

@TheHorse Yes, pony, you think correctly. Those are daffodils.
I prefer jonquils, myself....
Uhm... here:
Common daffodils have single blossoms and flat, strappy leaves. “Throughout my life, I've heard those yellow spring bulbs referred to as daffodils, jonquils, narcissus, and buttercups. Is there a difference, or are they all names for the same plant?” -Shel

@ridingbet So far so good. I love getting kids into gardening/farming early. It teaches them self-reliance. And it IS fun.

I checked the ones at Kaiser yesterday. They're looking good as well. The photo attached to this post is from out garden in Oakland a couple of years ago. The ones at the Ground Squirrel Garden are just a couple of inches high right now.
