Does what happens on MyLot stay on MyLot?

I've always been hesitant to reveal my real name on MyLot. Not that I'm particularly famous or anything, but I do teach at a college, and I have a certain "reputation" to uphold in the "academic world." I like to be a bit less politically correct on MyLot than I am in my professional life, whether it's revealing that I'm not actually human, revealing my life of illegal planting and exploitation of child labor, revealing my disdain for political correctness itself, or whatever. Do you feel safe with personal information on MyLot? I actually do, and don't mind that several members know my real name, etc. But at the same time, I still like hiding behind my equine self, and feeling free to have a bit more fun (and be a bit more honest) than I otherwise would.

Yes I do feel safe here on myLot, especially since I have posted several very personal matters. They have not come back to haunt me as they would if I were to talk about my personal life elsewhere on social media. This is a great site and I love that we can say what we need to and not feel shamed by it. Your sense of humor is great. I never know what I'm going to read next. I only have one question, can you ride a horse or do you just post pictures of those beauties?

If I didn't I certainly would have put personal information on here for the past nearly ten years. Yes, I feel safe. I think we can all pretty much be whoever we wish on here. I use a username and some use a semi real name. LOL So, whatever and whomever. Be whatever makes you comfy Horsy.

@celticeagle @TheHorse Except that it really doesn't work that way. But honestly, it is already much too late for any of us to worry about things like that. All the information we give on myLot can be and is compiled along with our real identities. None of us are anonymous when we go online.

Yep, I'm pretty comfy with the boundaries I've put up, and with the occasional TMI I put out there.

I hear you. I am hesitent myself, but as some people pointed out. It probably would not be hard for people to find out if they really wanted to. That being said, I am not all that worried about because at somepoint that way of thinking will make you paranoid about using the internet period. A luxuryI cannot afford. It would be nice to be able to be your real self, but the world does seem to become very judgemental when you do. While I could careless, other people seem to care for me.

@TheHorse That is the worse and never understood why so many like to sabotage other people. Miserable in their own life I suppose.

I'm comfortable where I am now. If people figure ut who I am, I don't really care. I don't have a sense that anyone here wants me to be fired from my jobs or anything like that.

And so the discussion comes full-circle :
Something in a discussion here got me thinking about myLot, its members and their anonymity. Much of what you, we, write here on myLot can be used to pull...

I have seen your name recently in a video posted here by another member, and I asked if you authorized it, as I know that it may be a source of problem. Only 2 or 3 friends here know my real name. I had troubles at the beginning of the net with a personal website about literature. There was nothing wrong, it had even received several academic links, but people do not like polygraphs in my country, and I am tagged to write in a specific scientific domain. Since that, I never used my real name online for things having nothing to do with my job.

It is nice to see peoples pictures as they tell something about themselves. But sometimes I find we tend to get oh hum nice but yet another internet person. While you are different and besides I've never typed and got replies from a horse before. Small hooves or big keyboard?

I'll attach a selfie. I actually have large hooves, which is good for a horse. I generally morph temporarily into human form before I type. Don't tell Vanny (@Vandana7) I posted this picture again, as it tends to drive her into spontaneous frenzy.

I do and I do not want my true name to be used. I am from a large family so I keep my last name private for that reason. Its funny how we get to "know" each other, you'll always be the horse to me, and that is good.

I hide behind an assumed name. Surprise...my name isn't Morley.... I talk about my grandchildren. It is easier if we are anonymous. I certainly wouldn't want to endanger my precious grand babies. I don't use their real names either. If someone really wanted to dig, they could probably piece my identity together through other family members and little bits of information I have shared.

Yes they could but why. This is fine post and I don't want to get too serious on it but I like talking to Morley so.. Did you see that the horse wrote feeling free to have a bit more fun? Sometimes I think the owner(s) staff who ever they might be, though I think some people might know, we don't right, have fun without risk of being identified too?

Many years ago, we all had nicknames and it provided us a shield of sorts. Some of us got to know each other outside of MyLot and developed true friendships as well as trust. Some of us have traveled to meet in person. I treasure the friendships I acquired. This time of year is great cause I get Christmas cards from around the world.

I think in today's crazy world, it is only prudent not to reveal a great deal about yourself. I mean if you get to know someone on a personal level that is different, but on a worldwide forum..I think it pays to be discreet.

I am ...pretty much what you see is what you get...(provided your imagination does not embellish me with angelic stuff). I see no point in hiding the real me...I have even revealed that I have paid bribes. My logic is...whether I write about me or not, people will try to find out about me if they find me interesting enough. I might as well be an open book for them rather than them getting half knowledge about me on net and then drawing wrong conclusions. The other way to do is like @mommaj does...completely hide your personality. That is also ok.

Less than a handful of people know my real name here . . . so I really keep it on the low down here. I, too, like to keep my anonymity for the most part . . . I figure knowing my name or not, folks will see me for me here - and that's the important part. They may never know that I'm a millionaire, I own a mansion and a yacht . . . but I'm ok with that.

@TheHorse Oh yes. But my boss is making a list, checking it twice, he's gonna find out who's naughty or nice . . . but I won't snitch of course . . . I'm only on myLot for the moment as I'm taking a break from making the toys.
