Thinking About a Diet Plan

Okay, eating right isn't working. Stepping on the scale once a week isn't working. Counting calories isn't working. I need to do something and that something is a diet plan called Whole30. I first looked at Weight Watchers, but didn't see anything about it I liked. In the suggestions at the bottom of the Google search page was Whole30. I pulled up the program rules and I downloaded and printed them out. Then I went looking for the grocery list and printed that up.
It's a 30 day food program. I don't think I'm going to find it too hard. When it comes to fruits and vegetables, I'm already eating on the Best list of foods. The only thing I will need to cut out of my current eating plan is all dairy except eggs. I can eat as many eggs as I want. I'm also doing okay with the seafood list. Beef won't be a problem. The only thing I can eat in the way of poultry is turkey, but I haven't even had that in a long time, so going without won't be a problem.
I'm looking at Mother Hubbard's cupboard, so I do need to go shopping and will do so with this grocery list in hand. From looking at it, my grocery bill either just got more expensive, or a lot less. Fruits and veggies really don't cost that much. It's the seafood and meat counter where the cost escalates. Right now I don't need anything from that counter.
Okay, it's time to take this ugly weight off. I need to lose 125 lbs. It was easy to put on 20+ years ago. It's been hard to take it off since putting it on. I'm sick of looking in the mirror and seeing what I'm looking at. I want my skinny self back, and just to give you an idea of what that looked like, that's me in the picture, before college.
Have you made any changes in your life? Thanks for reading.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm 68 and have realized that the only thing I can really do is to eat healthy so that is what I have done. My biggest problem is I don't do all those exercises that's supposed to help trim down but at least I haven't had to take meds for anything so I suppose that's a plus.

@just4him I can starve myself if I notice that I gained a few pounds. I eat very little now, it's enough for me. The diets that always worked for me were those that banned all the fats and sugar. Lean meats, fruits vegetable, cottage cheese, eggs, canned tuna, this is what I ate to lose weight. No pasta, no bread, no oil, no butter and no sugar at all.

Good luck with your diet plan. The best and most effective diet is the one that you could actually stick to and do.
Speaking of diet, I'm on an intermittent diet. I'm going on 12-hours, 16-hours, and 18-hours without food. Hopefully, once my body gets used to it, I can go on alternate days without food for 20 and 24 hours.

@just4him it is similar to a fast. Basically, it gives your body to rest from digesting all the food that you intake and it makes your body use the stored fat as an energy source.

I am right there with you! It is so hard to get weight off as I get older. I am 61 and have an extra 40 pounds that I could get rid of. I am trying to exercise more right now--both for my blood pressure and for the weight. I managed to get 15 lbs off during and after my hip surgery in January and have kept if off by exercising 45 minutes a day--we'll see if I can get to the next 5 pounds. Good luck and keep us informed of your journey!

@just4him I often think we give up too easily--hang in there and I am hoping that you and your scale are better friends at the end of this

@divalounger Me too. Maybe I can buy a new swimsuit - size or two smaller would be good.

Thanks. I'm glad you've gotten some weight off since your hip surgery. No, it isn't easy. According to the rules no stepping on the scale until the 30 days are up. I did weigh myself yesterday before I started so I would know how well I do. I'm on day two.

Hope the plan you found is just what you've been looking for and will see the scale move downwards. It's not easy losing weight and I can certainly stand to drop some weight myself.

Diet is a tough one! You're right, it's hard to take weight off. I find I have more success when I am more patient with myself. It's hard, because you don't loose the weight quickly. Cute pic of you btw, you look happy, great smile and I love your hair and glasses. BTW I think my parents had that couch when I grew up. :-) You can do it, don't be too hard on yourself if you do slip up, (a mistake I usually make) - just get back to it. :-)

@FayeHazel I haven't had chips in years. They are loaded with sodium and sodium and I don't get along very well. I tend to swell up.

@just4him That's a wise plan - clear the food out of your house that's a no go -- that's part of why I don't usually buy chips anymore. I will eat the whole thing of chips in a sitting.... no good.... so I usually don't buy them other than for a rare treat

I have been doing okay with my eating routine the past 2 to 3 months I've been doing it. I'm happy it's worked considering I haven't exercised. Although when it cools off I plan to walk outside. I've lost 13 pounds by basically eating little to no sugar (except fruit), and little to no flour. Over the fourth when our family went away I went off of it, and Sunday's lunch was at a Mexican restaurant, but I haven't gained any back. The key for me was getting past the withdrawal effects of going off the flour and sugar. I don't eat much sugar...Or so I thought.
I know you'll be able to persevere with your journey. I'm cheering for you.

Thanks. This does take out all sugar, but I don't eat much sugar or junk food, so I should be good. Congratulations losing 13 pounds.

Yes, the 30-day plan sounds like a wonderful plan. Go with fruits and veggies and couple with walking as your exercise.

I know one person who recommended this a year ago and said it worked wonders, not just in losing weight, but with health issues as well.
I was thinking this morning about sending the posse out looking for you. It's been a long time since I've seen you here. I hope all is well.
