You are what you eat

Free image of apple pie. I wish I was so sweet. I admit freely that I was grumpy last night. I have been eating too many unhealthy foods. I am diabetic and if my blood sugar levels go up, I feel really angry, and not well. Today is a new day. It is time to make breakfast. I will have eggs scrambled with vegetables and sprinkled with bacon and cheese. . . in other words, high protein with complex carbs. I might make some "fried apples" as well as that is a sweet treat that can be quite healthy. I will not add flour or sugar. You are what you eat, and food equals mood for me. I ate a little peanut butter to help me wait a little later. Hubby does not like a really early breakfast.

If it's good for you, then it's ok. But such a breakfast would be too rich for me.

We only do this about once a week. More likely I will have hot or cold oat cereal. Hubby will have fruit and plain yogurt.

@MALUSE I try to have some form of oats daily as it is good for the heart. If we eat a big breakfast we usually eat a light noon meal or evening meal. I have to eat something before I take my diabetic medicine, both morning and evening. I make wonderful homemade yogurt.

If it's true that you are what you eat then I am mostly made of noodles! I also feel ill if I eat too much unhealthy stuff and, I think, it's quite natural for the food we eat to affect our moods. Although I will have the occasional 'pig out', I'm happier and feel better both physically and mentally if I've eaten good food!

I hate that food affects our moods. But it's so hot today that I hate a lot of things.

I have a sweet tooth, I can skip a meal to have a slice of pie or cake. I have no health problems.

The more sweets I eat, the more I crave them. On occasion we will just have ice cream in the evenings and no meal. I have been eating too much bread, like sandwiches, often. The apples I made this morning are much like apple pie filling. The crust is more of a problem for me.

@GardenGerty I like sweets, but I only eat a slice of pie, or a muffin, once a day and not every day. I avoid to eat bread, or too much rice or pasta.

I have to limit myself to sugars, I'm not diabetic but to much sugar in a day gives me horrible headaches. I love sweets but they don't love me.

Yes, the quantity and quality of your sweets matters, even if you are not diabetic. By limiting yourself and continuing your active lifestyle you stand a great chance of avoiding diabetes altogether.

Ideally for me my meals would get smaller as the day goes by. When I have been in bed all night my stomach is empty.

That sounds like a very good breakfast and definitely healthy. How do you fry your apples? I've been wanting baked apples lately, but I know that takes sugar, so I've been trying to figure out how to make them and have them still turn out good.

I threw them in some butter on the stove top, cooked them but left them still juicy. I sprinkled on a cinnamon spice blend and a touch of an artificial sweetener. I stirred in some of my homemade granola at the end because I am trying to eat oats every day in some form. I have cored a small apple in the past then put raisins in the middle with some nuts and butter. I pour just a little real maple syrup for sweetening because it does have minerals in it. Brown sugar works as well. I microwave this in a small custard cup.

@just4him Not any sweetener, or butter or the other stuff? I know you are being good and on a diet right now. The right kind of apple tastes good without sweetener.

My mom is diabetic also so we see to it that her blood sugar does not spike up. Aside from that she has liver cancer. She has to limit the type of food that she eats due to this. We better take care of our health to avoid disease due to our unhealthy lifestyle.

Sometimes you cannot help things like cancer. I imagine what I ate would be too heavy for her because of the butter to cook it. I am sorry she is sick.

Sometimes, I'm more disciplined than other times. My weakness is chocolate and other things that include caffeine. I benefit and feel balance when I experience stimulants; which is why, I consider myself a caffeine freak. I understand how important nutrients are if we want to maintain our health. I am good about leaving foods alone that include wheat because I have actually tested positive for a wheat allergy.

I need a certain amount of daily caffeine, although I have cut it down. It is very hard if you have food allergies. I have a friend who is allergic to wheat, corn, and soybeans.
