Just took my "Mandated Reporter" exam! How are you spending Easter Sunday?

Because I often work in Social Services, and because I work at my friend's preschool, I am obligated to take a "Mandated Reporter" exam (online) periodically. Mandated reporters, including social workers, teachers, police, doctors, and others who come in contact with children in their work, are required by law to report suspected child abuse, whether it's physical, sexual, or emotional. So I procrastinated for months and then spent the last hour-and-a-half taking the online course and then taking the 20 question exam. I passed with a 95%, and will ask my director friend which question she thinks I missed. There were two that I wasn't sure about. Don't worry. I know that all work and no play makes Horse a dull boy. A friend and I are going hiking in Berkeley in about an hour. Yesterday, a friend came over and we cranked out a few songs on guitar. I also cycled yesterday with my young child-laborer friend to his old school, where we played on the monkey bars and met a talkative 6-year-old girl who said "I don't have a lot of friends because I'm too smart for them." I hope you're having a good weekend. I'm laying low and not participating in any formal Seder or Easter dinners. How are you spending this lovely weekend?

I am trying hard to forget that it is another holiday first that I am all alone. I worked on my PC all day and my cat Sid peacefully slept nearby. Unfortunately, Latvia won't give me any peace because tomorrow is Easter Monday oh, yes we have two Easters and then I can get on with the rest of April.

You get Easter again a week later, I guess. Never did hear the reason for that bit of orthodoxy...

How is Easter Monday different from Easter Sunday?

@TheHorse I was never clear on this myself but this is what it says. Easter Monday is the day after Easter Sunday and is a holiday in some countries. Easter Monday in the Western Christian liturgical calendar is the second day of Eastertide and analogously in the Byzantine Rite is the second day of Bright Week.

I know I had a glass of bubbly with the lovely lunch we all cooked, but I could've sworn the picture up top was different first time I glanced at it... Says it all, I guess

I think you're drinking too much bubbly. Either that, or I changed the photo.

@pgntwo Heh. Maybe I'll change it again after my hike. It could be the mushrooms you had in your Stroganoff yesterday.

I went to a sunrise service and breakfast at a church. I am on the computer for the rest of the day. If the little girl was that smart, you would think she would 'cool it' around the other kids and act more like them. Save her 'smarts' for the school room. Just my opinion.

@TheHorse Maybe she will take the hint and become popular. The question is, "Do you want to be right, or do you want people to like you?" She probably thinks she is superior to them and they sense that in her.

I actually said something like that to her. She obviously loves talking to grown-ups. She talked my ear off and was a delight to me. She was Mexican-American but had no accent when speaking in English. She's probably "teachers' pet." I said, "Eh, just pretend you want to play family, and dress up, and do the things the other little girls like to do." She smiled.

@akalinus Her twin brother (a boy) was more shy, and didn't seem as "well-spoken" as she was. She may be "adults' pet," leaving her strange or snobby around her young friends.

Nothing special here except eating stuff that should have stayed in the store. Got some digging done but its windy and cold out. I love your photo. You set such a good example for the kids.

@TheHorse That's a good plan. My town sure has trouble thinking about anything but ball games. I find them boring but getting kids into team sports seems to be a huge deal to the folks over here.

@sallypup Team sports keep kids active, I suppose. But I miss the days when kids would just go outside and play football or baseball and make up their own rules, based on how many kids were there.

I already have my ham in the oven. We're feeding the kids lunch in a few minutes, and then they'll have fun making slime. Older boy is doing an errand with one of the other adults, and the two littlest are playing outside. They keep getting into the candy, so I expect there will be some awful meltdowns and naps later.

A dreadful weekend with no internet connection. And since my young charges often entertained themselves with things from youtube, suddenly I found myself being needed 24/24 for trivial things. Real agony! (I am using mobile data right now from phone which is not enough for youtube users!)

@TheHorse we made certain dishes in the kitchen and convinced them to eat (THAT killed a bit of time! ). Some health problems here, so we can't organize more outing for the time being. (We spent one day outing last weekend. More to come after we see the doctor!)

That girl reminds me of Margaret in Dennis the Menace. lol. My princess is a darling. She is so caring, she will be hurt left and right by everybody, including my prince charming. When I had fever, she announced to entire building I was sick...then she made her grandma make some soup for me. Lucky she did not get to bring it. lol. I love that girl. Anyway...I am glad you scored that well. I am beyond weekend. I went to the hospital today with aunt, we could not get mammography done last week, so this week. Last week we had 4 consecutive days holidays. Sigh. And I thought doctors work!

@TheHorse My cousin has arrived this morning from the US. She lives in the US. She is a general physician and her husband is a cardiologist. She says my aunt is perfectly alright...and gives me the credit for it. She always brings me Swiss chocolates as if I am a small kid. I am amazed why I never grow up in the eyes of some people. LOL
