Sexism on myLot (and everywhere else, really...)

And I bet people don't even consider themselves as being sexists, yet they are.
"Why do men..."
"Do you think women..."
Most of the traits alleged towards men or women really have nothing to do with the person's gender...it has to do with their psychological profile.
Why do men cheat? The same reason women do.
Can women keep secrets? No more (or less) than men can.
The real questions are "Why do people cheat" and "Can people keep secrets".
Trying to pin 'qualities' like these to one sex or the other is simply sexism.
Nothing more, nothing less.

How about the perennial post of those people who blames women who dresses sexy as the reason for being raped. Heck I even seen a member who blamed sexy clothed women for earthquakes.

After reading your post I asked myself: am I sexist?
I suppose I am. But I still think that there are some differences between men and women.
I´m sure that some men AND women cheat. If only men cheated, with whom would they cheat?
About keeping secrets or shedding tears, I guess it is in part cultural, in part part of the person´s psychological profile but hormones have their say too.
I have found that, with age, I tend to cry more while I watch corny movies. I´m sure it has to do with age (hormonal change maybe).Am I being "ageistic"?
I just listened to a wonderful sexist song from My Fair Lady. It was Rex Harrison singing "Why can´t a Woman be more like a Man?"
Good morning!

But I find my eyes watering at corny movies too these days...and I don't think it is hormonal

@JolietJake I have been thinking that as I age, I have less hormones (I don´t know which though). I´ll have to do more investigation on the subject.

@JolietJake I know, it seems we cannot stop placing labels on people.

Exactly, but some people will insist that things such as that are 'gender specific'.

I did a discussion on 'Man Clean vs Woman Clean' a while back

(Before you get yourself in an uproar, this is not a serious post and may involve humor or sarcasm. I guess I need to start posting this warning to appease some...

Making assumptions based on gender can be quite offensive and actually shows lack of thought and imagination.

Well, let's see...the first question was from a woman...the second from a man...so I'd say 'No'

Gender has nothing to do whatever one does whether it be bad or good. What pisses me off in this country is that the law is lenient when it comes to men cheating than women. The rationale? Women can bring the wrong heir in the family when she gets pregnant coz of her cheating. That's also sexism because the law seems to assume that only the men brings money into the family.

It’s 8 AM on a Saturday (the regular crowd shuffles in...). Why are you getting deep on us?
You’re correct, of course. It may stem from the less-PC days (e.g., an old “soul food” label translated to “all blacks like chitlins and collard greens”) or stereotyping (men won’t ask for directions). And, in many parts of the world, those “men and women are equal” memos are burned....

Men don't have periods, but most of the time it is not a gender-specific topic they post about
