I have crocheted two baby blankets for each of our eight grandchildren, as well as smaller baby blankets for the dolls of our granddaughters. It is one of the things I do for my grandchildren which I hope they will keep and pass on to their own children when they have them. The one above pictured above is the blanket I made for our most recent granddaughter, who is only two months old. I loved seeing her curled up under it! For those of you who crochet, it is a simple grannie's square with a ruffle around it.

She is simply beautiful!!!!! So are your blankets. I wish I knew how to crochet and knit, but others in our family make beautiful things as you do.

@DianneN - Thank you! I'm glad you like our new grandbaby. She was so cuddly. I could barely put her down for two weeks! (LOL) I do not consider myself a "crafty" person, but crocheting is the one thing I know how to do. The blankets are something to give my grandchildren which I hope will get passed on in my family.

@DeborahDiane I can only imagine you with that precious beauty! I bet you can't wait to see her and the boys again. That would be a wonderful tradition and I hope it continues for many generations.

@DianneN - They plan to come see us here in California in early March. That seems too long to wait! We usually go visit them for a week or two once a year and they come here for a couple of weeks each year, too. I wish we could spend even more time together! I sat and held our baby granddaughter for hours every day. It was such a special time!

@andriaperry - Wonderful! This is a very simple pattern ... basically a large granny square. I have made similar blankets, but in different color combinations, for all my grandchildren!

photo of Pretty. Photo is mine.
Oh, your granddaughter is beautiful! As is the blanket you made for her! Uhm... believe it or not, I used to crochet a lot. I made several comforters for my daughter, as well as crocheted pillows and even a matching set of curtains for her bedroom. We still use the pillow I made as a throw on a chair in our living room. The matching bed spread I crocheted is in a plastic tote in our garage. Neither one of us can remember what happened to the matching curtains I made for her. I didn't take pictures of the things I crocheted, unless my daughter happened to be standing in front of it. I'll add the photo of Pretty when she was seven standing in front of her bed. Edit to add: @vandana7 Do you have this photo of Pretty?

No I do not. But I have seen it uploaded sometime ago. Your little girl is awesome...and honestly ...when dad's look after daughters the bonding is of a different kind.

@DaddyEvil It is not universal. But that is certainly a case where fathers give in more than they would normally, because they are not sure how to tackle the problem. When fathers do not give in, daughters still find a way around them in most situations. That is the advantage that any gender difference offers. Nevertheless, it is a unique bonding, hope Pretty realizes it.

@vandana7 I think the bonding is a lot stronger when fathers raise their daughters... Or maybe it just gives the daughter more rights to boss the dad around? (I haven't decided if that is universal or not. )

@DeborahDiane I have no ability whatsoever to turn those balls of yarn into something useful. Still.....I love to go to shops and feel their loveliness. The various colors attract me, too.

@sallypup - I love to buy "baby yarn" when I make blankets for babies, because it is so much softer than regular yarn.

The baby and the blanket are both very cute. I have started crocheting again after nearly 30 years. Hope to make a blanket soon. But I prefere c2c rather than joining squares. Just now have small balls of wool of different colours and looking for ideas on what to make. Since all stores are closed in my city for the next atleast couple of weeks I will have to use whatever I have in stock.

@mayka123 - While we are all going through this time of closed businesses, it is nice that we have a hobby, like crocheting, to keep us busy for a while. I am sure your different colors of wool will look pretty when your project is finished!

@DeborahDiane Yes it is, I have mentioned giving them to my older sons and they have expressed interest in them but I am afraid that they would lose them or let them get messed up. I still have them all.

@jstory07 - I learned to crochet when I was about 30 years old and I had a boss who would crochet when we had down time or slow periods at work. She taught me how to do it, too.

@Hannihar - He is doing much better. His health is very fragile, so almost anything can send him into a tailspin. He has advanced chronic kidney disease, heart disease, an early stage blood cancer and other problems, but he's hanging in there.

@Hannihar - Yes, I am finally back home. I really enjoyed the trip and LOVED getting to spend time with my grandchildren. My husband got sick, had an upper respiratory infection and could not eat. He lost ten pounds in about a week. We had to take him to Urgent Care and he got better just a couple of days before we left, so the trip was not quite as much fun for him, although he also enjoyed seeing the grandkids and, the last couple of nights, we were all able to get out and go out to dinner.

I have used the granny square myself when crocheting blankets easy pattern. I would do two good size squareds and put them together anf them crochet round them using the granny pattern and then add a ruffle.

@Elizaby - Yes, I have done that, too, when I wanted a blanket that was more of a rectangle. Maybe I will do it next time.
