Just Crack An Egg

There are so many times I see products come to the market and think, what a TERRIBLE waste of money. Who in the world would BUY this? Who in the world would SPEND their hard earned money on this HIGHLY overpriced product? But lo and behold there are people who do. My brother in law, in fact, is one of them. What in the world? These tiny little containers are hardly a meal. And while I can see where these might be handy on the go, it is just incredibly stupid, if you ask me, to buy these things. They want $2 for one of these. It's basically just scrambled eggs for crying out loud. And by the way, it doesn't come with the egg. It's just a container with some cut up vegetables, maybe a little cheese, maybe a little onion or meat. But is it worth $2? Gosh no. I can buy a dozen eggs for 48 cents. IF I scrambled a dozen eggs, added in some onion, some green pepper, even a little bit of sausage for good measure, some shredded cheese, and maybe a little fried potato, here is my breakdown. One dozen eggs 48 cents One potato (at 10 lbs for $3.99) 20 cents One green pepper 89 cents One onion (at 3 lbs for $1.69) 28 cents One pound pork sausage $2.99 My total cost for making one HUGE batch of scrambled eggs? $4.84! If I broke this down into 12 servings, this would be only 40 cents per serving. That's FAR less than $2, and consider that the actual cost considering the egg is not included is $2.04. But more power to the company that makes these that they have found yet ANOTHER product to sucker consumer's that either don't pay attention or don't care to part with their money. Sometimes what separates the haves from the have nots is just simple common sense and math.

I have never been able to find eggs for 48 cents- maybe they are more expensive where I am - but i get your point. I am sure there are some suckers out there who buy this stuff!

That has been the going price for eggs for probably the past two months or so at both Aldi and Ruler in my area. Most of the time 99 cents is a good price, and I rarely pay more than that. There are MANY suckers out there who would buy this stuff. lol

@myklj999 That's not awful. Works out to be about $1.04 per dozen. A bit over my threshold. I am known to leave items on the shelf if they surpass my price threshold, and my price threshold on eggs is about 99 cents per dozen. So, I probably would not buy them for that. It depends, though. I do like my eggs.

Not only that, I bet reading the label your heart would go into cardiac arrest at the amount of sodium in that little container.

@porwest That's a great way to describe it.

Oh. You bet. I never even thought about that. But you're right. Nothing in a container is ever anything but a creatively marketed and labeled salt lick.

There is no way that I can buy a dozen of eggs for that price. At least 4 times that.

I guess Canada is doing it wrong. lol. I have been buying eggs at Aldi and Ruler for 48 cents a dozen for at least a couple of months. The typical price, though, that I pay is about 99 cents per dozen. Maybe you have union chickens in Canada?

These kind of packaged meals are certainly not worth the money The only time I purchase anything instant is ramen soups. That way if I want some food and I don't feel like making anything I can just boil some water and many times I also add a couple of things to them.

You are absolutely right. Most of the time packaged foods are WAY more expensive than just making it yourself. But people don't pay much attention. I just won't part with my money so easily.

Where do you buy a dozen eggs for 48 cents? Are they pre-owned or past the expiration date? That is an incredible buy Jim Anyway, I've seen that item in the stores. Not only is the packaging unappealing, but how hard is it to make a scrambled egg, geesh.. And the cost

Currently there are two stores I go to that have them for that price. Aldi and Ruler's. It's been that price for a while. But I usually consider even 99 cents a dozen a good price. As for the product...you will not see me buying this anytime soon. You are absolutely correct. Scrambling my own egg takes nothing.

We have those here too. A meal for a lot of money (just add some hot water). We get a veggie and noddle soup. Only they are dehydrated veggies (not the real thing) and the broth is not a real broth either. That, or legumes make up such small dishes that I would be left hungry.

I hate to admit I bought two of them and they were awfu besides being expensive. You are so right. Convenience can be too costly sometimes.

Yes I pay about .06 for an egg, I don`t do the pork breakfast meat and I am about off cheese, so onion and bell pepper, potato..... Yeah! Me either I thought what a waste of money when I seen this on t.v. Yes I do Aldi eggs and they are as low as .48 up to around .78 a dozen.

I had never thought about them like that....I never tried them since they wouldn't fit into my diet, but that is crazy about the price!

I've never been one to buy prepared foods myself. #1 it's too expensive #2 it's usually chock full of additives #3 they usually don't taste good. 48 cents a dozen for eggs? I thought I was doing good getting them for 98 cents!!

I can understand having these for convenience, perhaps for people who find it difficult to cook or prepare their own meals or for one-offs if you forget your lunch for work! I wouldn't have them for regular meals, though. As you say, you can buy the ingredients to make several meals for that. There is one thing I buy that's probably not really worth the money but that's because I really like them!

It depends on the egg you want to buy sometimes I get a large egg and the price is more expensive than quail eggs. By the way, I am not smart with the math.

My thoughts exactly when this product came out. The least they could do would be to include the egg...but if people are willing to buy it, they will produce it! There are dozens of products just like that.
