A wind-driven horse near Mukinbudin, West Australia

Just north of Mukinbudin in West Australia, we came across the scene that is in the photo. It is near the homestead of a George Landsdell, who was a prominent early settler in the area. He was also a bookmaker and race-horse owner. He renamed his property Cleomine after his best horse. The sign said it was unbeaten in city and country races during the 1923s, 24s and 25s.
I’ve added a video clip. The windmill is attached to the horse by a rod. When the windmill turns, the horse appears to gallop. It is really quite effective.
And shortly we’re leaving to go to the city to see Hugh Jackman in concert so you can be sure I’m looking forward to that. I’ll be away from here, probably, till Sunday although I make take the laptop with me in case I have nothing to do.

@JudyEv 'tis jest brilliant! i've a small windmill (jest decoration) out front which'd be suited fer smaller schtuff. 'd really like a big horse though'n my original windmill remounted. who knows, perhaps e'en a couple large critters? folks sped down this road when such 'twas dirt. now that they've chipped sealed 't, they're prone to doin' 75mph down 't, ignorin' the 45mph speed limit signs. semi-trucks use this road to 'void the d.o.t. 'n they really fly!
do ya got some pics 'f those yer uncle fashioned? would love to see 'em, hear the stories, if'n so :)

@JudyEv No True that.
., although it can get quite windy here at times, we don't have enough to keep a windmill up all the time though..as you go westward in the US you see a lot of properties with windmills. They are very common not only as decorations, but as functional power..

@snowy22315 We had a lot on the farm when I was young. It was a catastrophe if they broke down.

We have quite a lot of wind farms in Australia which generate electricity.

Yes people really are creative and I think I've seen similar windmill. There is also one I've seen in Facebook which is so naughty.

I was very impressed. I want one now! I'm sure Vince could make me one if he really wanted to!

@SophiaMorros I'll tell him I think it is too hard for him to do.
I'll imply that he's not clever enough. He'll have one made in a jiffy.

@JudyEv all you have to do is figure out a way to make him want one, too!

That is very ingenious that it moves. We have lots of 2 dimensional cutouts that make lifelike silhouettes around here, in Kansas and Missouri, but I have never seen anything equipped to move like that.

My uncle used to make wind-vane type things that would do actions when the wind blew.

It's surprisingly big. It would take quite a bit windmill to drive it.

This isn't quite the red centre but the soil is about the same colour.
