New legs for our caravan

We’ve been waiting on a couple of online purchases and one arrived today. It’s four new legs for the caravan. When we park the van to camp overnight, there are four stabilising legs that help keep the caravan steady. The ones on the van are slow and cumbersome to wind down so we’ve bought new ones which will drop down and we’ll only need to wind them down a tiny bit. That’s the theory anyway. Haha So they arrived by courier this morning and after lunch we went down and Vince has now welded them in place. Next week we take the caravan in to have the front resurfaced. We are hoping that the wood under the current surface won’t have water damage. If it does have, we might be up for a whole lot more expense.

The previous owner put in new steps for his wife as she became quite disabled towards the end and couldn't manage the original ones.

@JudyEv that 'twas most kind 'f him! i shan't hold my breath'n this end, 's ya know he says he's gonna, yet lacks the follow-through. the steps fer this'un need to be wider 'n 't least one more step. that 'r i'm gonna need a step stool to get in/out. the pups've a tough time, too.

@crazyhorseladycx Is it a motor-home (one unit)? We have a four-wheel drive vehicle and caravan is towed behind. Here it is with the annex set up. The car hitches up on the left.

The caravan is at the repairers and apparently the water damage is worse than first thought. Vince is in there at the moment deciding what we'll do next.

I'm glad the caravan has new legs! Is your caravan what I would call a motorhome? Or does it have to be towed like the vehicle I'd call a caravan?

@JudyEv lol, of course, I took that as a given!!!! I'm going away for a week with my sister in her motorhome next month. That will be a new experience for me.

It's towed so the same as you'd have in NZ. Our caravan does have wheels as well!!

@valmnz I hope you enjoy it. From what I've heard of WA people hiring motor-homes in NZ, they find the roads a bit intimidating - a bit more winding, narrower and very steep in some areas. But it's great to have a 'home on wheels' and you'll save a small fortune in meals and accommodation.

I keep telling you and Vince that you might get visitors at any time. *shake my head* You have to leave the "other" activities at home!

@JudyEv I hope everything goes well with the inspection of the wooden part of the caravan, Judy. I'd hate to think you wouldn't be sharing as many interesting things this next year if something were majorly wrong with your house on wheels! I'm sure you are. I apologize for trying to be funny by putting a slant on what you were saying.

We take the caravan in tomorrow - and we're almost always set up to receive visitors if any arrive.

@DaddyEvil No problems. Hopefully the repairs will only take a few days unless something 'bad' is found.

That surely make the van steady. Anyway, what's the caravan about?

Are you familiar with caravans? We tow the caravan when we go travelling. It has a bed and kitchen, a toilet and shower so if we want to camp for free we can do that. We think it is cheaper than having to stay in a hotel.

Ha ha, I'm sorry my understanding of caravan is like trade fair or exhibits of things of products. This is what we do here when we say caravan.

@Bensen32 It will be good to have the leaks taken care of properly and we can now store it in our shed so it's not all bad.

They'll just make a bit less work but that will be welcome. We really are starting to feel our age in some ways.

It's so nice to have a caravan. I wish I had one so that when visiting parents, we could park it in front of their house.

It's very handy on lots of occasions. Sometimes we'll take it to a concert and sleep in it overnight.

You just pull the red handle to release the pins and the legs drop down. Then you can do the fine adjusting. We have a similar 'handle and pin' arrangement on the jockey wheel of our smaller trailer.

Even with the new stabilizing legs on there, I still have to say, "if the caravan's a rockin', don't come knockin'!" haha
