The nerve of some people!

Yesterday, I received a phone call. A cheery voice said, "How are you doing today?" I said, "Actually my lower back hurts and my hemorrhoids have been flaring up a bit lately." She hung up on me!
I was so hurt! Actually, she was a bot, and I suppose the pretend-interactive format they're using these days was not programmed for a (partially) honest answer.
I never did learn what she was trying to sell. Do you get pretend-interactive phone calls? It seems to be the latest rage in phone solicitation.

@akalinus I'm confused. Why would leaving a message be illegal? (I can guarantee it isn't illegal anywhere in the US.)

@DaddyEvil I think it is illegal for robocallers to leave messages. I could be wrong about that, but a lot of these calls hang up when they are answered by a message device.

@infatuatedbby But sometimes my friends don't leave me messages. They think they can Facebook me. I check Facebook once a week.

I usually just hang up on those. I have fun with the live callers

@TheHorse My favorite has been from one wanting to help me ease my pain. I tell them it is in my A** Most just continue reading from the script or hang up. But one guy after a long pause played along. If he hadnt been trying to scam people I could have liked him.

Lately, I have been getting a lot of auto-dialed calls in Chinese or Korean. I'm not sure which. However, I do not feel a bit guilty about hanging up and blocking the number. I don't know how I ended up on that list, but they are certainly wasting their time!

@DeborahDiane Interesting! So someone did a demographic analysis and targeted your community. I'm surprised I haven't received any calls in one of the Indian languages.

@TheHorse - Our retirement community is very multi-cultural. The largest group is Caucasian, but we also have large groups of Koreans and Chinese, as well as other ethnic groups. I suppose that is why I get the calls, but they seem like strange robocalls. I can't even tell them, "Hey, I don't speak this language!" LOL

I hang up on robocalls but with the guy trying to clean my ducks, when he asks how I am, I say I am fine and thank him for asking before I hang up.

I never pick up the landline anymore for this very reason--but your story made me laugh!

No, I don't get those. I've set my phone to ignore calls from any numbers that aren't already in my phone's directory. (Friends who get new phone numbers know they have to text me before they can call me. Them texting me lets me put their new number into the directory.)
Maybe she was a sensitive interactive bot and you grossed her out, pony... *grinning at you*

Not very often anymore. I am on the national do not call list, and I complain every time someone calls anyway. But better still is that I only have a cell phone and if I do not recognize the calling number I do not answer it, I press ignore and go about my day. If it is something important, they will leave a message, which I will check in a few minutes to see if they did.

I get some convincing ones from time to time, but mostly I do not answer them.

I have it easy to avoid this. My flip top phone has only a handful of phone numbers that I have saved. Whenever the phone rings I flip it open and if I don't know the number or it does not give me the name of one of the numbers I saved I just don't answer it.

Usually when you get an automated person on the phone it ends with for ____ press 1 or something like that. I never remember getting a "How are you doing?".
