RIP Handshake

A coworker and I were discussing how some things might change a bit after this whole gotawful Coronavirus thing is over and done with, and one thing we decided might definitely be gone forever is the handshake.
It is such a natural thing to do, especially in business. But even I know I am not going to be prone to offer one. Not sure what my reaction will be if OFFERED one.
What do you think about the handshake? Do you think it is dead and gone forever or do you think it might eventually make a comeback?

In business, we were already moving to teleconferencing instead of face to face meetings anyway.

@JohnRoberts It is a trend I do not like and hope will not continue. Even before the virus certain things were becoming too impersonal. I just think it is the wrong direction. Fine for conducting business across the globe, but not here in our own front yards.

@porwest if you know the person and their personal hygiene habits hands shaking in the right season might be fine otherwise some other way odd getting might need to be worked out.

The Asians would always bow. I'm starting to think about it. For real. I am starting to think about it! I don't like the idea because ... I'm a hugger!

I've been a hugger for years. I really need to hug my kids.

@cmoneyspinner The bowing thing would never work for me. Not sure why but it makes me think of bowing to royalty, and there are few people I consider royalty. lol. But hey, if it keeps me virus free...maybe that's a royally good idea.

It should probably be home forever. Someone was showing other ways to offer a somewhat handshake over if which is to grasp the other person's forearm while they grasp yours. Either way, I think carrying around sanitizer and using it should be expected since we're supposed to use the inside of our arms to cover a sneeze if no other means is available.
Another option might be a sort of hands bump with the outside of the hand.

@porwest I agree and floor that reason I'm trying to be smart but not excessive with this thing. I don't want to kill off the germs that have kept me free from getting sick each year. The problem is in knowing where to draw the line.
Also if it were just me that would be one thing but I have a new grandson I have yet to see and for him I'll probably be extra careful especially since I work work the public.

@MarshaMusselman Being careful is a good plan. It's the people with 40,000 rolls of toilet paper in their basement I am worried about.

The problem with all of this excessive use of germ killing, is that in the end it causes the germs to evolve and adapt to them, and it may wind up killing us in the end. Our bodies need to be exposed to SOME germs so that our bodies can create antibodies to fight them off.

I think there will still be handshakes; but I never liked them because of the germs.

@porwest Yeah, but I know THOSE germs. It's the foreign germs that I don't like.

I think they will be back eventually....but maybe not as soon as they say that there is no longer need to worry....it may just take some time.

@MommyOfEli2013 Yes. It has. Ugh. If only the weather was a little nicer, at least I could go outside and DO something.

@porwest Yes I agree, just hope they do go back to normal in time. Yes, it definitely can't get here soon enough! This has been going on for too long already!

I think like other things it is forbidden now. Religious women do not shake hands with men so that does not always apply to me. I think after this is over and done with I am sure people will go back to handshakes and other things after it is agreed that they can.

When people feel safe, I think handshakes will be back in fashion, but time will tell.

I think you're right. We have been getting away with it for years. Maybe a lot of illness has been passed on in the past unknowingly by getting too personal.
I certainly won't be offering my hand in future, so a simple nod, or something similar will have to suffice.

I think eventually everyone will go back to hugging, kissing and handshakes. Except maybe Howie Mandel who is always a fist bumper
