It's nearly time to make pea and ham soup - for the golf club

Every year, my husband, Vince, and others, make soup for a golf tournament which is held in our town of Donnybrook, Western Australia. Vince is to make ten litres (17 imperial pints; 21 US pints). The first few times he made pea and ham but found that, if he makes it as he likes to, it is actually very expensive. So the last few times he has made pumpkin soup. Today, a golf member asked him to make pea and ham, saying his soup is the best. He gave Vin a $50 note towards the cost of the ingredients, which was very kind of him. So now we have split peas in the pantry and ham bones in the fridge ready for a soup-making day. Tomorrow we go away again to take photos at another endurance ride. We have our camera batteries charged and the caravan packed. If I have anything to write about, I’ll see you in the morning. Otherwise, stay safe and have fun.

That was very kind to request the pea and ham soup and help pay for it. Sometimes I am requested to make certain dishes for parties, and they are much more costly to make than people realize. Enjoy your photo-taking at the endurance ride and have fun!

I used to hate pearl barley in a soup but I can cope with split peas.

@JudyEv I don't mind pearl barley. That's usually what mushroom soup uses.

@JudyEv NO, I do not make pea and ham, my husband is not a big fan of peas, but when I buy a mix of dried beans to make Tuscan soup the dried peas in the bag are green.

It is quite expensive to make up such a large quantity. I can't comment on the pea colour. lol Do you make pea and ham? If so, what colour are your peas?

I love love love pea soup with ham!! I'm sure Vinces soup is delicious. It was nice of that guy to offer money to help with the expense. Soup isn't always an inexpensive meal to make.

Vince has got to feel good that his pea and ham soup is so highly valued. He must really do a great job preparing it if people specifically ask for it!

I think the reason the men like it so much is that Vince pulls all the meat off the bones and leaves it in the soup.
