I'm giving up

I like to have a jigsaw on the go. I’ve always enjoyed doing them. I stopped for a while as I was spending too long at a time at them and ending up with a very stiff neck and shoulders.
I bought this one at the op shop (thrift shop) when my sister-in-law was visiting some weeks back and we worked on it while she was here. All that remained to do was the dark background. As you can see, I have five pieces left but I cannot make them fit. I can’t see any pieces that are out of place so I’m giving up and putting it away. One piece at the bottom right is missing.
Underneath this board is another which has another jigsaw on it. Only the sky is left to do on that one. I wonder if I’ll get it finished. Life’s too short to waste on a stubborn jigsaw, don’t you think?

@psanasangma Some can be very difficult but others are easier. You can do free jigsaws online if you want to. Some are only 50 or 100 pieces.

Once in a while I will do jigsaw puzzles. but I won't buy one from a thrift shop. The ones in a thrift shop are there because they are missing pieces. I don't want to get almost finished and then find out pieces are missing.

@JudyEv It can make me mad to get it almost done but find pieces missing, so I only get new ones.

@DaddyEvil Fair enough. It's certainly annoying to be searching for a piece and then find it's missing.

Was the box already opened when you got it? It drove me nuts to have missing or wrong pieces when I bought from thrift shops (puzzles and games). Here, only 2 or 3 of the pieces here out of the 5 appear to be almost the correct shape to fit in those spots - so at least a couple pieces seem to definitely be missing.

I agree. If you're doing something for fun, not worth it to stress yourself out. Take a break, wait until you're in a better mood for it and try again.

I wish I had the concentration skills to stick with doing a jigsaw Judy. Good job you.
There are so many nice pictures I often admire but I know I would never finish it.

@TheHorse Please - don't do that. It really isn't worth it. But it's all back in its box and didn't get finished. I tried each of those pieces in each of those places and none would fit anywhere - not even with a good push! I got within two inches of the puzzle and tried to find pieces that looked out of place colourwise but couldn't find any. Eventually I decided it just wasn't worth the effort. It's certainly not worth a left big toe - or a right one for that matter. And I'd be very, very sad if you felt it necessary to unfriend me. The Trump bit I leave up to you.

I agree with you that life is too short worrying about some petty issues. We cannot win them all.

@JudyEv The same here since if i do not have the time to finish a project that I do not like. It is goodbye and find another project to tackle.

Did you try forcing the pieces into the puzzle?
I'm working on a puzzle now. Usually do one over the winter when snow is on the ground and it's too cold outside. They are time consuming especially if it's a 1000 piece one.

I had a few 1,000 piece puzzles but I gave most of them away. I gave one or two pieces a good push but they just wouldn't go. I should have trimmed off some bits with the scissors!
They would be a good pastime if you were confined indoors for too long.

@dgobucks226 If I do too much at once, my neck and shoulders start to ache.

Ha, ha. yes scissors might have helped Judy. I usually do the puzzles over the course of a month. With the weather so cold, there's no rush.

That's true. Often, when you come back to a puzzle, you get several pieces right away.
