The U.S. Government is Moving On

Regardless of what you felt about the outcome of the insurrection of the U.S. Capitol and the resulting impeachment trial in the Senate, our country is now moving on. Of course, there will be future hearings, and probably a commission, like the 9/11 commission, to study what went wrong and how to protect our Capitol building better in the future and prevent future insurrections from domestic terrorists. There will be the criminal trials of the people who were involved in the insurrection, possibly even the former president and his attorneys. However, all that will be background noise. Congress and the Biden Administration will move on with the normal routine operation of the government, and there is plenty to do. We still have the Covid pandemic and the resulting economic problems to deal with. We also have cabinet members to approve, Congressional bills to be passed, international relationships to be repaired, and government departments which need leadership in order to move forward. There is plenty to do and I, for one, look forward to having a fully operational government again. I'm relieved to put all the fallout from the last administration behind us. I know I will not agree with everything that goes on during this administration, but I do expect it to be less stressful for the general American public, and that is something for which I am grateful!

@DeborahDiane Thanks Deborah - yes I had the vaccine a month ago and I'm absolutely fine. However the whole country is under lockdown so not much freedom around. It doesn't bother me too much though, I've plenty to do. Hope you are well yourself.

@jaboUK - I absolutely believe that things will be better under Biden, although I assume that Trump's supporters are still in disbelief that he lost and will argue with everything Biden does. However, I feel at peace for the first time in five years, since Trump began to run for office and attracted so many crazy followers, as well as some sane ones who somehow did not recognize what a terrible person he was. As for me, I actually sleep better at night since Biden was elected, though. I hope you are doing well, Janet, and have been able to get vaccinated so you have a bit more freedom these days. Sending good thoughts your way.

@DeborahDiane The first problem with the UK is now about Julian Assange. I do not believe that the UK will ever drop him and many groups are now asking to drop the Assange case... we will see.

@LadyDuck - Oh, yes, the Julian Assange case. It seems like all the news over the past few years has been Trump, Trump, Trump, so it is easy to forget about all the other issues in the world. I am sure that Biden will deal with Assange at some point, but it is probably very low on his list of things to do. It is so nice to turn on the news and the lead story is the weather, followed by Covid, a little politics, and then interesting stories from around the country and the world. Trump is already starting to fade away.

@sallypup - Yes, a breath of fresh air is an excellent description! I am sure that Trump is going to be tied up in courts for the rest of his life. He has lawsuits, an IRS issue, huge debts to foreign banks, and court cases against him in several states. Becoming president made his life worse, not better. Of course, he brought all this down on himself.

I am a loss to understand the whole Pro Trump mentality. The guy was a PT Barnum kind of fraud, and yet he has devoted followers. It makes no sense..If you feel that strongly about your issues form a separate party..and go from there.

I am relieved we are putting that time behind us.

@DeborahDiane I am so sorry about your husband! I'm glad to know he is doing better and hope he regains full use of his legs. Yes, Pretty and I are doing fine in this mess. I was so afraid of getting Covid while working at Walmart that we decided I should stay home as long as I can before returning to work. We are living on our savings right now. In October we finally got a handle on my allergies... which weren't allergies. I had hyperthyroidism. It was causing allergy like symptoms. Once I started taking medication for that I've had many fewer allergic reactions. They've gone from two to three times a week to two or three times a month. And now they are actually allergic reactions. It has been such a relief!

@DaddyEvil - I think you and Pretty made a wise decision for you to stop working at Walmart for a while. It is dangerous to be working in stores. Our granddaughter who worked in a store also quit her job. She is in college and now she is delivering for Postmates ... hands free deliveries. She feels much safer and works her own hours. I have hypothyroidism. I have had it for over 30 years and now what was left of my thyroid gland has completely atrophied away! I also take medication for that. I did not know that hyperthyroidism can cause allergy like symptoms. I'm glad they have been able to help you with that. I have now had my first Covid shot and my husband's doctor just scheduled him today to get his first shot on March 2. I will feel much safer when both of us have been fully vaccinated. Good to catch up with you and Pretty, again. I am been happy to see so many people are still here.

@DaddyEvil - We are doing pretty well, considering how isolating things have been the past year. My husband had a stroke in June, and has not fully recovered. He was playing golf at the time, but now cannot walk well enough to play again, although he has improved and hopes to get better. I cut way back on my online time, but still lurk around MyLot and pop up once in a while! I hope you and your daughter are doing well and have done well during this crazy pandemic!

Is California and Los Angeles doing better at the moment and in the next 3 years with your present government? How's the surge of illegal border-crossings by the millions being abated? Keystone Pipeline shut-down and closed and lost of 15 thousand jobs in the first 2 weeks of your current president? Too many questions being asked and circled back and not answered and solved.

@everwonderwhy Thank goodness that people are leaving California. One out of every nine people in the United States lives in California. We really, really, really need for some of them to move to other states. I am relieved every time I hear of someone leaving. We need to distribute the burdens of our population onto other states. Right now, we have over 180 billionaires and many thousands of millionaires living in California. We also have millions of good, hard-working legal citizens who have modest incomes, but remain here and love it. Losing a few to other states is not a problem. I agree with the majority of Americans and am satisfied with what President Biden is doing. Do I agree with everything? No. I have never agreed or disagreed with everything any president has ever done, and I remember our presidents going back to Eisenhower, who first began getting us involved in Vietnam. However, I am satisfied with most of what President Biden is trying to do. My main concern is the withdrawal from Afghanistan, which would have happened under either Trump or Biden. I am concerned that Afghanistan will again become unstable and a source of terrorism, so personally I disagree with that policy. However, no matter who I had voted for, that would not have changed. Otherwise, I agree with most of what Biden is doing. I do not belong to a political party. One reason for that is because I always feel free to criticize our presidents, or compliment them, regardless of what party they belong to.

@DeborahDiane Thank you. But some kind of truth-magnifying lens grips the tweedle-dee-tweedle-dum out of the system. My best friends-- middle-class, not millionaires-- want to leave LA. I'm glad that you are very happy now and are proud of where you and your family are right now.
Why are millions of people leaving California and moving to other states? What do those states have that California doesn’t? PragerU’s first mini-documentary...

@porwest - Well, at least we haven't had any government officials accused of crimes, arrested, put in jail, or otherwise detained as a result of their criminal activities ... which seemed to happen every month that Trump was in office. His presidency was just exhausting. Of course, you are entitled to your opinion, but personally I am so much happier, calmer and more relaxed since Biden took over. I'm just thrilled to be back to normal governing by a normal person.

@DeborahDiane There was plenty to deal with over the former eight years when Obama was president. It was just covered differently and ignored by the media. That really is the only difference. I'd honestly be interested in your opinion on my "Why Was Obama Not Impeached" post. Keep in mind, when I do political posts I steer away from bias as much as I can and just lay out my thoughts in the most honest, thoughtful, non-combative way possible. I think I presented an interesting argument in my "The REAL Reason They Want To Be Rid of Trump Forever" post. Just posing questions that I am VERY interested in the other side answering... Unfortunately the left rarely ever presents arguments in favor of what they believe. They just deny, plug their ears, and a lot of the times just start calling names. But I think that post (the first one I mentioned) helps to bring to light some of the problems we SHOULD have with at least the impeachments of Donald Trump. (I actually think one of my long responses on there outlines even better my thoughts, lol) As Americans I think it is important we set aside our differences, set aside our likes and dislikes, and just THINK about what we are actually for and against and why. It helps us to understand why it is important to us as Americans, and why it is important to proper functioning of our government. It also helps us to understand better why it is important to the country. I think we also need to be VERY vigilant in paying very close attention to not just what the media says, but HOW they say it. Because the media is as dishonest as it has ever been in the history of media these days, and unless we put our thinking caps on and dig deeper, we can easily be duped. AND potentially defrauded. The hatred and vitriol toward Trump was something unprecedented. And I also think it is dangerous. And the best, and most productive study would be to understand how this kind of hatred and vitriol can destroy our nation more than any policy matter put forth by any president. Democrat or republican. Look, there was a lot of good that Trump did. Why did we (most of us) not know about it? Why was 90% of the press coverage negative? What was the purpose? Who were they trying to convince? To what end and with what goal in mind? I am almost willing to bet you cannot tell me any of Trump's accomplishments. And that's not your fault. That's the medias fault. And that the fault of people trusting too much in what the media tells us. More than one democrat publicly stated that after attending a Trump rally, they were left wondering what exactly the media was portraying. Because anyone who attended a Trump rally walked away with the idea, and the feeling, that there was a man speaking at the podium who was all about America, American greatness, American opportunity, and freedom, and self-governance. Trump rallies were not about Trump. They were all about America. And all about how, if you allow people the freedom to move forward, they will. By contrast, Biden "rallies" were all about how poor you were, or how incapable you were, and how unfair life was to you, and how unfair the system is, and how they will give you what you need that you cannot get for yourself. It is an amazing and stark contrast, and even more amazing that it won Biden an election with such a dark, sad, bleak, and negative message to the American people.

@DeborahDiane The sad thing for me, while I applaud your non-partisanship, is that I think this way of voting (Nothing he achieved made us willing to overlook the way he achieved things) is dangerous. I have long said, policy matters over people. Obama's policies, although he was a likeable, presidential, well spoken man, got people killed, and left the country economically in tatters. By contrast, Clinton was a rapist and a very evil man. Recent evidence even points to his very likely being a pedophile. But he was also, fairly, a good president. I vote for policy, because to me policy trumps all other considerations. Keep in mind that on the surface most serial killers are very nice people. But catch them in the darkness? They are very dangerous people, and they know how to use charisma to get you into their deadly lairs.
