Calm and quiet day, so far...

The neighbors have been shooting off fireworks every night around 9 pm. Not the beautiful ones that go way up into the sky and explode or the small ones you set on the ground and they have beautiful sprays of colored sparks... They set off strings of firecrackers and big ground boomers... What's the use of those except to keep your neighbors awake? And they keep setting them off, one every half an hour until midnight... *sigh* The police won't do anything. They just say "boys will be boys"... Around midnight on the 4th of July though, if you set off anything that makes noise, you'd better hide before the police get there or your remaining fireworks are confiscated and you get a fine! Picture is my flowers in front of the house.

@DaddyEvil To the some extend it's ok but not at late nights, will be very irritating especially when we have older people around

That's true... Pretty is the youngest person living on this block. The "boys" shooting the fireworks are in their middle 40s. They should have a little more respect than that.

@FaruMesh I agree, but you can't force people to act mature. (Which is a good thing or I'd make no money on myLot. )

I don't like people doing that. I'm not sure when they'll get mature

The "boys" shooting those fireworks are in their early 40s. They should be mature. I suspect they have more money than they need and are bored. I've noticed a lot of people of all ages going a little crazy this year because they have had to stay inside most of the last year...

I don't mind fireworks, as long as I can enjoy them, too. But I don't understand the appeal of the ones that make noise, especially after dark. What are they getting to see? The fuse sparking and smoking before the explosion and nothing else.

@hotsummer Yes, as long as they're pretty, I like them even at midnight. And yes, they scare the dogs and cats in the neighborhood, too.

Seem like some shameless fellows. At least, here we have fireworks when India wins a big cricket tournament or during festivals like Diwali and Dusshera. May be police has got tired of being reasonable with such folks.

This is the season for our Independence Day celebration so they have a reason to set them off. I just don't like them setting them off so late at night. Yeah, maybe...

@vandana7 Noise pollution along with air pollution. And big threat to heart patients and little babies. Is this called celebration? It's good to celebrate but there are many ways of having fun.

Happy 4th of July. I am so happy that individual fireworks have been banned here from several years already. They only kept people awake and they scared the animals. Beautiful flowers.

@DaddyEvil I fully agree with you. I love the fireworks organized by the local authorities for the Swiss National Day. They are lovely, but those that only make noise make no sense.

Thank you. I have nothing against fireworks at the right time and place but shooting ones that don't display something lovely late at night makes no sense to me. Thank you again.

It's middle aged guys setting them off. Pretty and I walked that way this morning and saw where all the trash from the fireworks is still strewn all over their yard.

@porwest We haven't since we figured out I'm allergic to the smoke from the fireworks about 15 years ago. We still have a cooler in the garage full of them, though. I wouldn't trust them to set them off now.

@CarolDM We're still wearing out masks outside since they protect from the pollen as well as air borne illnesses. We've gotten some odd looks but there are still only 38% vaccinated people in our state and the Delta variant is making it's way through our community. Yes, at least they don't jump out of the tank when something outside explodes.

A friend of mine on Facebook said she’s taking notes. She has air horns and she’ll be under windows of people shooting fireworks after midnight “blasting those air horns on the 8s, just like the Weather Channel forecast!” There was one that was so loud I wonder if the reverberation set off any burglar or car alarms. I’m NOT joking. Any other day I would’ve been calling the police to report an explosion.

That wouldn't work here. The police would arrest someone sounding an alarm like that in the middle of the night. Oh, good grief! We've not heard one that loud, yet.

Fireworks are quite pesky especially in the hands of morons. I wish they would make it only legal to set them off on 4th of July & New Year. We too have the problem around 5th of November & Diwali around the same time. I feel sorry for animals & the elderly who are terrified of them.

I was saved from loud, obnoxious and incessant firework displays this year by severe thunderstorms. So instead of the boom of fireworks to keep me up half the night, I had the boom of thunder and lightning instead.

@DaddyEvil You hit the nail on the head. Gentle winds and rain. Except that I think our typical Florida afternoon/evening thunderstorms are often more violent than some of the tropical systems we get. It definitely was the case yesterday when Tropical Storm Elsa went through. Lots and lots of rain, but nothing violent.
