Folding a Fitted Sheet

United States

Happy Wednesday Everyone! the sun was out and now it's gone. Here we go again with a partly cloudy day and rain and thunderstorms for later. I stripped my bed this morning and my sheets are in the wash. Rather than putting on a different set I decided just to put these back on once they're done in the dryer. I don't feel like hassling with trying to fold up the fitted sheet so this is just easier Back in the "good old days" my mom taught me how to correctly fold a fitted sheet. I've done it for many many years but recently I'm tired of trying to fight to get it folded right. I remember my mom being able to get that fitted sheet folded so perfectly that you couldn't tell which sheet was the fitted one or the top sheet when you looked in the linen closet. Everything was folded just so and very well organized. My mom was a stickler when it came to certain things. I'm not as picky as my mom but certain things I guess have been ingrained in me. Taking my clean sheets out of the wash today and putting them right back on my bed saves me the nagging voice in my head when I can hear my mom saying "if you're going to do something do it right". Do you fight with those fitted sheets to fold them or do you just do the best you can and not worry about it?

I usually just wash and put them back on the bed. When I use the flannel sheets in the cooler months I fold them the best I can and don't worry about it.

For some reason I find it easier to fold flannel sheets

I find them almost impossible to fold honestly. I should look up online how to do it right. OF course, if it takes too long, I might not do it anyway..

There definitely is a technique but I find the bigger the sheets the harder it is

I've never been able to really fold em so I don't fight with em. I do like your idea though, I wish I had a dryer but I line dry so it wouldn't really work all the time.

If only sheets would freeze for summer nights.

@rebelann now that's an idea! You could always put them in the freezer

I'm sure your line dryed sheets smell so good and I do miss those days of hanging stuff out to dry. But I don't miss the extreme winter weather where everything would freeze on the line

I fold them like mom taught me... and yes, they can be a pain in the tush! *sigh* At least you got to see the sun today... It started raining last night and, when I stepped out to look at the plants on the porch my daughter laughed and told me they'd gotten enough water, so leave them alone... It's still sprinkling. (I was sweeping the leaves off the porch... My daughter can be a pain, too. )

@Marilynda1225 I'm not sure whether I should say congratulations on having your own pain-in-the-tushes or tell you how sorry I am... sometimes I feel both ways with kids.

@DaddyEvil it's hard not to love our own little pain-in-the -tushes and even though mine all all grown they still are pains then the grandchildren come along and follow suit

We use those things that fit the mattress. It's easier. When I was in the Army I was a skilled sheet folder and bed maker We had to be

I've heard stories about how you had to have your bed made so that you could bounce a coin on it. Is that true?

It's a real pain in the neck isn't it especially if you're trying to do large sheets ( like queen size or king size)

@Marilynda1225 yes, i am even more pissed off when i keep the neatly folded bedsheet and then when i pick it up for keeping in the wordrobe it again unfolds in the middle

You're lucky Judy. I don't have trouble folding the top sheet but the fitted one is always a battle

I remember watching Martha Stewart one day, and she showed how to correctly fold a fitted sheet. I am sure that you can watch a video on it but it helped me because until I watched that I preferred never to fold them just use the same one and after it was laundered it went right back on the bed. I've lived and learned since then.

I've always been a stickler for folded sheets so that when I put them on my bed they aren't all wrinkled, etc. but lately I've been so lazy that I just put the same ones back on. I'm sure there's a video that shows how to correctly fold a fitted sheet. My mom was my video

I just fold them into a semi organized look and toss them in.

I fold them my way but the last bit is rolling them up then I always know which one to put on first. I'm afraid I'm pretty slap-happy in some ways.

Do you ever wonder who decided the best way to fold sheets and it should be done that way? My top sheet is always folded neatly and now my fitted one is a bunched up mess

@Marilynda1225 It used to be so important in the old days. My top one is neatly folded but, as I said, I roll the last bit of the fitted one. I don't want to spend five minutes folding a sheet. lol

I do the same thing - take off the sheets, wash them, put them back on. It is so much easier that way. Unless I am short of time.

This has become my new way to change my sheets. I love sheets and have two sets I haven't even opened yet. Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and put them on my bed one of these days.

Especially if they're king size. I have a queen bed and those sheets are almost too big to fold

I've come to the conclusion that it's more important that the sheets are clean than how they're folded

I did them together but I'm sure it's not perfectly done and I never worry about it either. I'm sure mom taught us but I no longer remember. With six kids she may not have been a sticker either.

With six kids I can't imagine your mom worrying if her sheets were folded perfectly. I had 4 kids and my biggest concern was that the sheets were clean and not necessarily folded correctly.

@Marilynda1225 lol. She was picky about certain things but mainly taught us how to clean and dust well. We became her housecleaners as we got older.
