Off to buy some plants

It’s Saturday in sunny Western Australia and we’re heading out shortly to hopefully buy some plants for our new home. We’re going to a couple of garage sales that are selling plants. One lady is moving house and getting rid of all her patio/house plants along with some outdoor ones. We also need a couple of creepers/climbers to help hide the house from the street. After that, we’re cooking some casseroles to freeze and take with us next weekend to another horse endurance ride. This is a national event held each year in a different state. Because of COVID and our closed borders, the only out-of-state riders will be five entrants from South Australia which is very disappointing but inevitable under the circumstances. So, instead of some 300 competitors, there will be just 55. Hopefully next post I’ll have some plants to show you. For now, this is a photo of our Donnybrook garden at its best. At least here, I won’t be competing with the kangaroos.

@judyev one of the joys of moving house. Our garden has only trees and lawn, no flowers. The trees are lovely though, especially now that autumn is coming in. We have a few outdoor planters that will provide some summer colour eventually.

That is a really lovely tree. Love the shape. Do you have to mow the lawns? I'd like some colour around the place eventually.

@xFiacre Oh wow! That's pretty cool. Wouldn't it be more fun though, to have your own ride-on mower?

That is really disappointing not to have all 300 participants because of the COVID restrictions. Enjoy the event still.

@JudyEv at work, people who are visiting the site needs to follow the protocol imposed especially by NSW, Australia because of Covid.

Thanks. There has been a lot of organisation go into the ride as it is supposed to be national one. It's a shame for the organisers in particular.

@jobelbojel No-one from NSW or from Victoria can attend because our border to the east is closed to them. However there will be five coming from South Australia.

@JudyEv What are you wanting the creepers/climbers to climb? Be careful if you want them to climb the wall of your house. Climbers often damage a wall with their roots.

@DaddyEvil These are to climb the bars that separate us from the street. To give us some privacy if we're sitting on the patio. There is the section shown and a smaller section to the right.

I hope you find some nice plants. I'd like to get our front "flower" bed landscaped. I get tired of looking at weeds.

The gardens at the front are tended by the corporate body as long as we don't change them so that's good for us. But we do need some vegetation on the other side.

@JudyEv That would be nice to have someone to tend to our weed bed! Maybe we'll hire a landscaper to put in some plants and mulch next year.

Some need to be protected here but I don't think too many have to move plants in and out according to the seasons.

Some years, the shrubs really outdid themselves. It would be nice to have a really pretty shrub at this place.

Not competing with the kangaroos will be different. I hope you find some nice plants. It's a shame this pandemic is hard on activities. Hopefully, next year the endurance rides will be what you're used to.

You do have to wonder how long the various restrictions will be in place. It would be nice if we could visit our sons again but we're too worried about not being able to get home when we want to.

the creepers also help with heating and cooling - they absorb the sun energy before it gets to the house!
