Replies: Give Me Something to Work With!

Fam!!!! I love you all, I love when you reply to my discussion posts, I realize by doing so that you're helping me earn my pennies. But I love helping back! Which means I love replying to your replies and helping you make your pennies too! So, at risk of sounding ungrateful and causing people to not reply at all, I would like to request that if you're replying, give me just a little something that I can build off of. A simple "good job" or "this is interesting," while always appreciated, doesn't spark further conversation. Give me a story where you had something similar happen to you, a longer thought you had while reading what I wrote, tell me why you thought my post was interesting. Feeeeeed meeeeeee. Because a conversational reply on a post doesn't just help the original poster, it helps the replier too. Let's all help each other here! (And my anxiety is kicking in about posting this so I'm just gonna hit the button, don't be angry at me!)

It was a dark and stormy night. I was MyLotting by candle light using my phone because the power had gone out. I was scrolling through discussions and noticed that many responses were just a sentence or even just a few words. I thought to myself that in these times, with the tools at our fingertips, many people aren't interested in real conversations, they seem to be responding with a minimum amount of effort. I tried to figure out why but after some time, it appeared that the answer may never be known. I secretly wished that someone would start a discussion on the subject. Then we could discuss the difference between exchanges and conversations.

@Vikingswest1 I hate those super short posts from people just trying to make money. If I open one like that it makes me roll my eyes.

It makes me angry when I see someone doing that. It's obvious, in my opinion, that those are the people who are here just to harvest the pennies and they aren't interested in making conversation with anyone... I report them to GAA before going on my jolly journey, talking with people who don't mind talking with me about different subjects. I hope you're having an interesting night.

This is a great post and one that needed to be written. I know exactly what you're saying. I'm probably guilty of not 'feeding people' too but I'll try and do better in future. I hope you get better responses in future. Thanks Anna (@LadyDuck) for the suggestion.

I actually see you around a lot, you're not one of the folks I was talking about! I enjoy your replies to everything. I mostly wrote this on a whim yesterday when I was reading replies to something I thought really warranted discussion and a lot of replies were just "that's interesting." .....WHYYYYYYY??? A writer wants to know what parts of their writing you found interesting. And part of me wants to say that the folks who post those short responses are just in it for the money, but them posting something I can't reply back to is not making them any money. It doesn't benefit them at all. I don't understand, lol.

I hope that many will read this post and understand exactly what you mean. I love to keep a conversation going. I am "discussing" with one myLotter on the same post from more than one year. Every day she comments back and I reply. I think this is the purpose of this site, not typing a "Thanks for sharing" just to show that we have read a post. I am going to suggest your discussion.

@akruser13 After reading your post I thought it was important that more users read and understand that this site is all about interacting. This is not a "writing site", but many write dozens of discussions (!?) every day and never even reply to comment left to their posts. I do not like to write, but I surely like to chat with the other users.

@LadyDuck Yeah, I noticed that too, when people aren't responding. Share the love a little, guys! If we're taking the time to read and respond to a topic the least they can do is reply back.

There you are! I was hoping to scroll down far enough to see your actual response on here. I wanted to give you a special thanks specifically because it looks like you sent people to my post. I really was terrified that people would slam me for this one; I'm so grateful that long-term members are in my corner! I hope I have conversations that last as long! I've met all my closest friends online and am hoping to be able to add to that friend group with people here on myLot.

There is a reason, actually several of them, why I don't like writing a discussion on myLot. People that write "How interesting!" or "Good job!" AREN'T responding to me and I can't reply to them! They make me mad and I delete them and check to see if that person gives the same "response" to other myLotters, too. If they do, I report them to GAA! I call writing a discussion on myLot "farming" because some of the people here make it harder than it needs to be. I'm here to make friends, first, and if people like what I say, money somewhere along the way. I LIKE talking with people but if they won't talk with me, then I don't bother visiting their discussions. Why waste my time talking to them when they won't talk to me? Sorry! I climbed on my soapbox again... Some people here can be very annoying! I believe you are doing just fine here and I'm happy to visit with you when I can think of something to talk with you about.

@sol_cee I don't have rice in my house. You'll have to enjoy rice-less meals here unless you buy and cook it yourself. (I'll leave the table while you all eat it, if that happens.)

I agree! It isn't always easy to come up with something interesting to say though. So, when that happens, it is helpful to ask a question--like "so show are those 49nrs anyway?" Take care and I will look for you on the boards--

Yeah! I wouldn't even care if someone just started a whole different random conversation in my replies, lol. If I said "purple" talking about the sky and your brain went "Oh! That reminds me of the crazy purple chair I saw on the side of the road this morning!" I'd be totally fine if my discussion got derailed to one about insane chairs or insane stuff people have seen on the curbside lol.

I think the most you can do is 'not like it, and hope no one else does either.' ... And---would it be good to "Report" it? Do they break the rules? Yeah, there's, "behavior that is never tolerated ... Discussions, responses or comments that offer little or no value - Answers like "I don't know" or "I don't care" help no one and will be removed." But I'm thinking that 'reporting too many of those' will make people just "not reply to your discussions" rather than risk more bad marks on their record
This is where you will find out what kinds of behavior are accepted and unaccepted on myLot. When in doubt, remember the Golden Rule!

@mythociate I don't know what 'record' you are talking about. There are no records kept on anyone here. If something gets reported even I do not know who reported it. I only get notified of what got reported.

@GoAskAlice So 'reporting others' doesn't do anything to the reporter's personal record? Even if it doesn't, I still feel like it would be kinder to reply to them asking them, "What does that tell me that a simple 'Like' on my comment doesn't tell?"

I totally agree with you. I get so many one word replies that there's nothing you can do except like and move on to the next. Even when I go to the person who make the comment to read one of their posts, it's a very short one or two-sentence paragraph that doesn't ask a question or give me a reason to comment. If we all made a worthy response, the site would be far more interesting than it is. I'm not saying anything against the site. I love myLot. I'm here every day to read and respond. It's a huge part of my day. But when the comment is one word, it also makes for a fast uninteresting day. Be anxious for nothing but in everything with prayer and supplication give your request to God.

It seems so silly now that I was so very anxious about this post. I'm newer so I was scared of coming off as insulting to the established community. The responses have just genuinely made my day and I feel much more comfortable and confident with the people here.

Thank you for making this post. Well, mylot is not only about making little pennies by being active and making more short posts and replies, I connect to it more as a community and love to have those beautiful interactions and long conversations with my mylot friends . And one liners or the parrot repetition just kills that charm. I know it doesn't violate the rules here but it does bring down the real fun here. Glad that you said it so beautifully Thanks Anna @Ladyduck for suggesting me this post

Thanks for sharing this. I agree too. It gets hard sometimes to get some answers. Some people won't read anything they think is long and only give uninspired answers. All responses count and you get paid for responses, not writing.

@akruser13 I love those types of discussions. I sometimes try to help others by trying to change the topic in a slightly different direction or add layers to it but often, they don't pick up on it. I try. I can't make them expand the conversation to get more responses.

Yes, and that's exactly my point! I get paid for their responses, yeah, but I can't help them get paid in return if they don't give me anything I can reply back to. I realize that's not my problem, but if we open up a real conversation then we both can reply back and forth way more times and we both get paid more. It's a win-win for both. Plus just fun conversations.

Hahahahaha! I wouldn't submit someone else's story to Hollywood, that's like plagiarism! We would need contracts with signatures and stuff. You can have $.002 per every written review someone posts online lol. I heard that, that the discussion wasn't in the hot topics or top rated discussions for some reason even though it's still going super strong. That's okay, people found it and are busy busy here anyway. And as it is still breakfast time in my timezone I would like a bagel sandwich with egg, bacon and cheese please.

This is something I have been practicing since day one here. I always look at it like this; they are discussions, or in other words 'conversations.' I am the same way. I love it when people give me, as you said, something to build on and expand on. There are times when I might spend days on a thread just going back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. lol Hell, by the time we get done, just like in regular conversations, we've even veered way off topic. lol

I can't even keep up with half the things going on in this discussion anymore lmao. It's great! I didn't think my discussion about discussion replies would Inception me down this rabbit hole so far. @akruser13 I have been trying to get people to use italics and copy and paste in their replies when the threads get into multiple people going back and forth. Such as I did here. Even though this thread did not require it. But when I do this at least people know exactly what comment I am specifically responding to. I think it makes it easier, but hardly anyone does it.
