I Was A Bit Surprised

I went on a whim. We were kind of in the area doing other things, and the last time I was in a Fresh Thyme store—which is a high end grocery store—was probably about 8 years ago. But I actually found a couple of good deals. Rib eye steaks on sale for $10.99 per pound, which is a good price. And they had chicken thighs on sale for $1.59 per pound which is also a pretty good price. I walked out with about $40 worth of stuff, which surprised me considering I did not think I would find anything there I would want. I might run in there about once a month from now on just out of curiosity.

Never heard of it. It’s too expensive for my dollar.

For the most part I am not fond of most of their prices. But I felt like the things I wound up buying were priced right. We ate the ribeyes last night for dinner.

@porwest You never know what you might find in places. That is great what you left the store with and I bet you are very happy about it.

I was pleasantly surprised, that's for sure. I have not been back to the place since though.

I might take a peek in there once every other month or so, but it is definitely not a place I want to frequent.

@RebeccasFarm Hmm. Might be. I'd have to look that up. I know Fresh Thyme is big into organics and stuff like that.

I have not looked much into them, which is odd for me because I like to know about most businesses both public and private—it's the investor in me and my fascination with business. But I think they are maybe only in the Midwest... I'm going to have to look now.

I always assume grocery stores like those will be too high priced for me.

This one generally is. Which is why I was surprised I actually found anything worth buying. I won't be going there often for sure. But I might pop in there once every other month or so.

Anything under 2 dollars a pound sounds like a bargin in my book.

Yeah. The last price I paid was $1.59 at Aldi so $1.49 seemed good to me.

It is definitely a store I rarely ever go to. In fact, I have not been there again since I wrote this post. lol

Good on yah! Thankfully, our shops have abundant food supplies. Rib eye steaks are a prime choice my husband loves supplying us with, a large family, every now and then.

Come to think of it, it has been a while since I have had one. I should probably start looking for some deals. So tasty.

We don't have this store in our area. We are getting a Trader Joe's but no Whole Foods.

The closest Trader Joe's to me is in Brentwood, MO, which is about 40 minutes away. Not sure it would be worth the ride. The last time I was in one was about 10 or 15 years ago and I never went back.

It is admittedly a bot overrated, but even sometimes an overrated place can a fun and interesting place to shop and even find the sporadic good deal on something.

I don't mind grocery shopping, so even just walking around there for a change of scenery and to look around was fun. I'll do it every once in a while in places like that, although usually I have no intention of buying anything. It didn't work out that way that time, but turned out to be a good deal anyway.

I would probably get lost in their produce department if it was good.

Is the store near your house or a bit of a drive? Thighs could may be cheaper still but steak price is pretty good, considering today's price hikes.

Not really. It's only about five miles away. Right in the heart of Fairview Heights.

I have a gift card for Trader Joe's that I need to go use. I used to complain that the closest one was over an hour away. Now I don't even want to drive 20 minutes to the new one.

I never was a huge fan of that store and haven't been there in probably 15 years or more. But I keep saying I want to go. Bit of a trek though since it's across the river in St. Louis. But it's on the list again. Thanks for the reminder.
