My husband uses Facebook a lot more than I do and one of his FB ‘memories’ that popped up this morning was of the motor-home we bought on this day in Ireland in 2015. We bought it second-hand and toured through England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Germany and the Czech Republic for five months. In 2017, we had another three months in it. This was the only way we could afford to be away so long - by having our accommodation with us and being able to make many of our own meals. Towards the end of our 2017 trip, we ran against a barrier and put a small slit in the fibreglass side. It didn’t stop us using it and we kept it till the very last day. However, the insurance company wrote the vehicle off and we got back what we paid for it. I have very fond memories of this vehicle. The photo is of the bus parked somewhere in the Pyrenees in France.

We didn't go very far north - just to Edinburgh and across to Glasgow and to the Kelties. We'd gone much further up the west coast on a previous trip with our son.

Nice. we've always thought of buying a motor-home or RV a for our trips here. so no more checking in to hotels.

It is a big outlay to start with but you can always sell it again when you've finished with it.

I would love to have one like this. Travelling from country to country without having to pay a huge amount for accommodation and food is great

It was the only way we could afford to stay away so long. It was a wonderful trip. Originally, we planned to sell the van at the end of 2015 but we enjoyed travelling so much we kept it at my son's until 2017 when we did another three months.

Wow, that's a really nice motor home. If not for the kitty I'd love to have one .... well, not til Roscoe has learned to be calm on a leash when out and about.

Roscoe just needs to calm down a little more then I can start taking him places. As for the cat, uhhhh no, she'd kick up one heck of a fuss.

We did get it stuck in a little French village trying to avoid some road works. We had to back out round several tight bends to get back on a wider road. We also had to take careful note of the clearance height of bridges too as we were pretty high.

We were always coming across special gems that we weren't expecting. We mostly dodged the big cities and kept to country roads and smaller towns.

This is a wonderful way of having a holiday. My best friends just got back from one month in Spain and rented a motor home. As you say, the trip was less expensive as they could make most of their meal there and the campings in Europe are generally very clean.

I read where Dixie and Humberto had rented a van. We found the campsites very nice but unfortunately we didn't get to Spain.

I would love to have it but you know here in Asia we cannot move to the countries via road unlike in Europe, where a visa is required to do that. That way you might have saved a lot on accommodation.

It was good that most of the countries were in the European Common Market and all used the euro at the time. It certainly made travelling easier.
