When you see someone act a bit entitled in a busy store, it is interesting to see how the employees react.
Sunday I took a prescription in to drop off at Dillons in Newton. Of course while there I had to buy a few things.
I followed a woman with a few things, very few, into an open line. Sunday right after church is always a busy time in the store. The woman had a large deli container of who knows what. Aluminum pan with foil lid and price sticker. She had maybe five other things, plus a huge hanging basket of petunias hanging off the front.
She unloaded her basket, and was rung up and then says "Oh,I forgot to get a gallon of milk would someone go get me one?" Cashier looks down the line, pulls a young person off bagging and asks her to get the lady some milk. The girl politely asks what kind she wants. . . she says "I don't know" , so they ask her what color the lid is, she does not know. The bagger goes for the milk. lady starts to pay.
Meanwhile the line is building. Cashier asks if she will pay for the milk separately. She says "no" and continues standing, holding up the line. Once the bagger gets back the original ticket is voided, a new ticket is rung up with the milk, the lady pays, the bagger starts her real job, bagging.
Miss customer gets annoyed with how things are handled, because bagger puts the pot of plants inside the cart. Woman snapped at her and says "I had it hanging on the front outside the cart" Don't hit anyone with it. The bagger, who had not seen the original way the plant was loaded did as she was asked.
All this was done with good graces. The customer service was good. You could see the cashier was a bit frustrated. The bagger was consistently polite. The line got longer, but could not be helped.
I guess my thoughts on a situation like this is that I would have gone ahead and paid, let the line keep moving. Possibly even bag and stack my items in the cart as I wanted them while the bagger was not present. I would have put my cart at the service desk, gotten my own milk and paid there, so as not to make the lines get longer. I am not sure this customer even said "thank you".
Maybe I am all wrong.

Some people can think in very odd ways. I would have done what you would have done. Or just gotten back in line with the milk and waited my turn again.

First you would have gone back to get the milk yourself.

@GardenGerty True, or asked Pretty to go get it while I paid for what we had and moved to the service desk.

My consideration is always to NOT be the one who holds up a line for any reason and I can't stand people who think it is okay to do so.
Even at convenience stores nothing irks me more than someone short a dime who says they will go to their car to get it. Screw that!
It's terribly rude.

If she was handicapped, maybe, but she was obviously in good health. Claimed the grapes distracted her and she forgot to get milk.

Yes, but I was also a customer, and the people behind me. That saying is not true.

@GardenGerty In your end it's not true but in the management side that should be observed.

I hate being the cause of long line. That`s why if ever I will forget something, I will just buy it again and take another line.

wow. Yeah she sounds entitled. Once I did mention to the cashier that I couldn't find a red velvet cake for my boyfriend's birthday and he got someone to get me one. But yeah if I was her, I would have paid and went and got the milk I forgot to get myself.

I understand that cashiers are helpful. I think what made this bad is it was at one of the busy times, right after all the churches let out. the store was packed. If a cashier volunteers, and you know what you want, it is different.

People like her irritate me. She should have paid for what she had while the girl went for the milk she forgot and paid for it after the others in line paid for their items.
Me I would have not said a thing paid for what I got, put it in the car then go back and get what I forgot.

No, you're polite. While I'm in line, suddenly remember, I need something else, U leave line to come back later to pay. You know what, got a feeling that shopper may have been, managers wife?

No, that was not the manager's wife. The manager is a woman. I know her and her husband.

Such nerve.
One day she will be behind someone like that, and maybe she will recognize the error of her own ways when she is inconvenienced enough to have to wait.
I would have congratulated the cashier and the bagger for their professionalism, they did go above and beyond.

The customer is a very inconsiderate person. Same as others here, if I forget something, I would just get it and wait for my turn again.
