Well, it has started

This only applies to the USA. In our town it is legal to set off fireworks starting today. And my neighbors did. Bob and I were sitting out enjoying some shade and an afternoon breeze. Neighbor kids started with the fireworks, so we went inside. I used to always go to fireworks displays but have not since we moved here, It seems like most summers hubby has been ill or something and we have done very little. As long as they are being safe I do not mind the neighbors having a little bit of fun. We are celebrating Independence Day. I hope it is always so.

The neighbors here started shooting off fireworks last week. (It's legal to sell them from June 20th, but not shoot them off until the actual 4th.) If someone keeps shooting them off, the police will make an appearance and the fireworks stop for a while. Pretty and I used to join in shooting fireworks until I started having allergic reactions to the smoke they produce about 15 years ago. Since then we just come in the house when the neighbors start firing them off. *shrug* It's annoying at 2 am, but all we can do is put up with the noise.

@MarieCoyle It bothered me more when I was working. Now, I'm up all night and sleep during the day. *shrug*

@DaddyEvil Umm...NO. If they would just end at even midnight, but no, they never do. They are just getting warmed up by then. Last night I heard the last ones booming about 3 AM, then I think I just passed out from exhaustion.

Same as what Judy said for Australia. Fireworks are illegal here, they do have some public displays for the Swiss National Day on August 1st. This year we had too little rain, I am sure they will also cancel the public display.

That really makes sense. Luckily we are not in a drought right now.

@GardenGerty We are in a very bad and serious drought, but fireworks have been banned years ago.

We haven't had a lot of fireworks in the past, but in the last year it appears that we have a family with kids fairly close to us since we have heard a few go off! Nothing like in the city or our old neighborhood though! I'll take the country life any day!

Yes, this is very mild. IF we want to we can go over to the lake to watch an organized show.

@kareng It seems every day I wake up to news of another shooting somewhere. Often over stuff like too much mayonnaise on a sandwich.

@GardenGerty There is nothing close by that qualifies as an organized event here. I'm good staying at home and watching it on the news. Don't like those crowds anymore. Just last year they had a shooting at one of the organized fireworks displays in Baton Rouge. It always worries me when my kids go!

It has gotten fairly common to do them more than just to celebrate Independence Day. Like Christmas, New Year's May Day, etc.

Oh wow, it's illegal here - yet we hear fireworks half the night like 2 weeks before and after July 4th usually. But hmmm, this year I've only heard a few go off - not like previous years. There's a real wild fire danger out here, so I hope people will be smarter about it.

Many communities allow it. Yesterday was the fourth and it seemed like they cut off completely right at midnight, as they were supposed to.

Our neighborhood is like a war zone on the 4th of July weekend even though fireworks are technically illegal. No one enforces it. I don't mind it, but it does sometimes get just a wee bit annoying. That said, I love Independence Day. Long live America!

Pre-Covid era, we had a pyrotechnics competition participated in by neighboring towns and cities as one of our highlights Thanksgiving festival every year. Now it's almost 2 years that we miss it.
