Handkerchief or Paper Tissue?

Had lunch with a cousin the other day. After finished eating, he took out his handkerchief and wiped his mouth. I used paper tissue. He has been using a handkerchief for decades. I asked him if he finds paper tissues more hygienic. He said he changes his handkerchief every day. I'm wondering if handkerchief is common nowadays. Do you use a handkerchief/cloth or paper tissue to wipe your mouth, blow your nose?

I use paper napkins and tissues. Much more hygienic, in my opinion.

@Beestring My dad always carried handkerchiefs when I was growing up and I always wondered why mom hated washing them... Now, I know why.

No. I don`t use handkerchief anymore. I am more on tissue paper because it is disposable.

Tissue is more hygienic for cleaning the mouth, blowing the nose because it is disposable. Handkerchief is for wiping sweat

My current husband and my first husband both used handkerchiefs. We use a cloth at the table for wiping hands and face. Each of us use our own. Handkerchiefs are for blowing noses. First husband always used white. Current husband likes red or dark blue bandanas as he used to get lots of nosebleeds and with the red or dark blue it was not so noticeable to others.

I use both. I have rynitis and use the handkerchiefs for a watery liquid that comes off my nose with cold. Otherwise, I also use paper tissues.

I carry both tissue and an extra large handkerchief for the simple reason that a large hanky has many emergency uses like a tourniquet, bandage, scarf, head cover etc.. etc..of course I use a tissue to wipe my mouth and blow my nose

I use a paper tissue or napkin and haven't used a handkerchief in many years. My mom loved handkerchiefs and used them daily and washed them. I was never fond of them but I guess some people do prefer them

I find handkerchiefs to be the bane of society—granted, they are my germs, but still the idea of them is just nasty to me. Paper tissues all day for me.

I don't use hanky nowadays. But during my first days at my very first work, I did. I don't use to blow my nose or wipe my mouth after eating. I use tissue/nap.

I prefer my handkerchief over tissue paper. More cost effective and environment friendly. And I change them a few times in a day, I mean every time they get used. I keep a whole set with me. And they go to laundry. I do the same with hand towels and kitchen napkins.
