Do you know what's considered a good night's sleep?

I've always considered it to be one where I didn't have to get up very often to use the bathroom but last night I only got up once and today I feel like I could sleep a few more hours. (Many nights I get up two to four times). I did sleep for eight hours and gone are the days when I sleep longer than that at one time.
Usually I have no choice but to get up when my alarm goes off because I either have to get around so we can clean windows in the morning or if it's on the weekend I have to get moving to work at my cashiering job on Saturdays or go to church in Sundays.
Today, were going grocery shopping before lunch and I still feel like I want to take a nap. Maybe I just need to put on some upbeat music and get moving.

A few nights I can still sleep right through but it's very rare. I've been getting up at night since I was around forty,. Menopause changed my sleeping habits for me.

I've always been able to nap easily but for most of the last fifteen years I've not had time to get one in as I've gone from one job to the other. Now that I'm back to part time again sometimes I'll get a nap between jobs.

@porwest wait until your get older.
I got the grocery shopping done and the dishes in the dishwasher to run before I took my first nap. Now supper is in the oven and then I plan on running a load of laundry.
If I had more notifications I'd be mylotting rather than napping.

I think it varies from person to person. I slept well last night, but I use some chemical means.

@MarshaMusselman One thing I like is ZZZ quill all natural ZZs. It has a combination of herbs and really works! It is a little pricey, but I think it is worth it. Comes in a purple jar or you can get tablet form.

I had a couple of melatonin which I think helped me get to sleep quicker.

You have certain things you have to do. Too bad you don't have one day you can just rest and lounge around. I am lucky because I am retired and I don't have any jobs to perform. I used to work a full-time job and took care of a troubled grandchild from the time she was 3 until she was 15. Now I suffer from major depression and have the occasional panic attack. Now I relax and have my daughter do the housecleaning and cooking. We all do what we have to do. I hope you can find some time for yourself.

The answer to your question, we need RESTFUL sleep. Because of urination, pain or discomfort your sleep is being disrupted. Have you been tested for diabetes? Disrupted sleep is one of the first warning signs.

I get tested every year as part of my wellness check and no I don't have that. Last night I was 'out' other than the one time I did get up. When I have a hard time sleeping and there are those nights too it might be from too much napping in the day or evening or to much snoring by my husband.

@MarshaMusselman Noise disrupts a person's sleep, as does napping during the day.

Some night I feel like I'm awake several hours in a row but those night are rare. Some nights I'm up every two hours other nights I can sleep for four before then getting up every two. Other nights are better.

A good night's sleep has to do about the type of sleep as well as how many times you get up. I was very sluggish this morning but blame it on the hot weather etc.

And getting the right type of sleep isn't something we can control.

@akanetuk that can be a problem too. Some nights it's worse than others.

@akanetuk for me it depends on what type of job I was doing that day. If cashiering it ends up hurting my knees after a long day and they might hurt longer at night too.

I agree. And often it doesn't affect my sleep.

I think I get a decent nights sleep but don't know if it would be considered "good". I also get up multiple times to use the bathroom but am lucky enough that i generally fall right back asleep. I still set my alarm because I don't want to over-sleep and lose half the morning in bed.

I generally fall back asleep after using the bathroom too. I also set my alarm. I almost always wake up before my alarm goes off but I don't need to oversleep on mornings when I need to be somewhere.

I have a lot of trouble sleeping and sometimes I will sleep for 12 hours and wake up sleepy. My doctor wants me to get a sleep test to see if I have sleep apnea.

I've only slept for twelve hours when I've been sick. And even then it's rare that I can sleep that long at one time.

Do you sleep without interruption? Maybe our dreams are stressful and that's part of the problem, although usually our dreaming is short.

@ZedSmart I have odd dreams but I can't say they are ever bad ones and the only time they wake me up is when I dream about using the bathroom.

Try to exercise before you sleep.
And avoid drinking too much liquid or water before sleep.

I doubt I'll exercise before sleeping and sometime I try to quit drinking water several hours before unless I've not had much that day

It's different for different people, but 7-9 hours seems to be the consensus. I find that seven hours is fine for me, but as long as I get a bare minimum of four hours, I can function (perhaps not happily). Like you, I get up a few times per night to pee.

I do get up twice or thrice at night but go to sleep once again. I am sleeping well these days. I did have sleep problems a year ago. Now I sleep well. I don't mind getting up at night as I take a nap in the afternoon.
