Home-made bread is the best

My husband put his brother on the plane last night. The brother is bound for England and might think he is back in an Australian summer when he gets there.
He had to empty his fridge before he went so we were lucky enough to get the best part of a loaf of his home-made bread. It is the best!! There was also some raisin bread, which I also love but seldom buy, and a frozen roast beef. We might keep that and share it with him when he gets back.
He is visiting his daughter and taking over a few things of his late wife’s. I just hope his luggage doesn’t go missing and/or that he had the sense to put the really important bits and pieces in his carry-on luggage.
Another friend is due back from Canada next week. Last we heard, she still didn’t have her luggage. Flying is a bit of a fiasco at the moment.
Photo is mine of a rabbit that sometimes visits my brother’s garden. It’s obviously a pet that has escaped but it’s been around a few years now.

I love bread. Every morning after a 20 minute workout, I buy some bread. I eat it while having my morning coffee. I wish I could make bread myself.

I used to make homemade rolls all the time but the doctor told me to stop eating bread. (I still do eat bread once in a while but I quit making it.)
I hope your brother-in-law has a good trip and a nice visit.

@JudyEv True... I always made homemade rolls because my homemade loaves were never cooked in the center. I never did figure out what I was doing wrong.

I heard they shut down the customer helplines as they couldn't cope with the amount of calls about lost luggage. Mind you, some of the calls were less than friendly! For the moment the heat wave seems to have cooled. We had thunder and rain last night. Bit cooler and there are more showers forecast

We heard Qantas have a great hall somewhere packed with unclaimed luggage. Our niece and husband were coming down from Harrogate by train to meet her father at Heathrow but were held up with having to transfer to a bus because of heat damage to the lines. I wonder what their trip home will be like.

I didn't turn on my oven for 2 weeks and tried hard to not heat up the house. I hung up all the wet clothes, rather than running the dryer for the ones I dry. I do always hang up the majority of them. But I missed making bread. I was glad I had a loaf I made in the freezer, I made good use of it for toast in the mornings. I just didn't cook much, it was too hot to cook without air conditioning. I know I am spoiled rotten by it.

It really does when I turn on the oven. If I have baking to do, I try to time it to bake in the evenings. This is the longest I've gone in years and not done any baking, it feels strange.

So your brother-in-law bakes his own bread? Nice!
And yes, it's been so hot over in England that fires have broken out.

@JudyEv Yes, that is why I don't make it very often. I can gobble it down.

@JudyEv Years ago, our luggage was lost when we went from France to a Caribbean Island, it was the month of February. All our light clothing and our shoes were missing it took 5 days before we received our luggage. We could only buy something the second day, as we arrived during an Island celebration and all the stores were closed. It can be more than upsetting. We did not care when the luggage was delayed coming back home, they give them the address and they delivered when they found what was missing.

Aww, cute little rabbit! Safe flight for your brother in law in every way. If he's retuning soon, ok for sharing frozen roast, but more than a wk, I'd eat frozen roast and buy new one for welcome back mini party. My, your Canadian friend still no luggage... terrible. Hope your friend gets a happy reunion with her luggage, soon!!! Mmm, homemade bread, sounds good!!!
Got my glasses adjusted!

It has been a long time since I have made home made bread. I had a pair of rabbits like that.

Baking bread is in my bucket list.
The rabbit is better off roaming if he has survived all these years.

I hope my friend hasn't lost anything of too much value but her clothing and shoes would be worth quite a bit.

Thanks. Even when he arrives, he has to go to the north of England and roads, railways, etc are all affected by the heat. However he will have company by then.

Yes, home made bread is the best. My friend has a bread maker. She gives me some of her home made bread from time to time.
The rabbit in the photo is cute.
