Do You Collect Things?

I collect a few things - stamps, coins/notes, pictures. Stamps - It's not easy to collect stamps now because people seldom send snail mail. But I'm still keeping albums with old and used stamps from a lot of countries. Some of the stamps were from friends living overseas sending snail mail to me. Some were Special Editions I bought from the Post Office. Stamps I treasured the most were those used in the 19/20th century in China. My Dad gave the album to me. When he passed, I was only 11. Didn't ask where he got the stamps. Coins/Notes - I love to travel. And I keep coins/notes of the countries I visited. I also collect coins/notes of old Hong Kong. Pictures - I collect pictures of old Hong Kong, in its 40s,50s, and 60s. I bought them in some thrift shops. I collect things for interest only. But these items may worth some money in the future. lol Do you collect things?

I used to collect stamps and stickers when I was younger. And I also had so many penpals to help with my stamp collection.

@Beestring I can imagine that you do not get many stamps these days from different places. Sounds like you have a nice collection and memories from your Dad on the stamps and memories on different coins from your travels. You never know if what you collect will be worth something some day. I guess you could say I collect papers from things I needed way back and have not gotten rid of them. Aside from that I do not want a lot around so I do not have to decide if I want to throw it or not.

You are right. I do not get as many stamps these days. But I still have some friends living overseas sending snail mail and greeting cards to me. So I get stamps from time to time. I collect things for interest only, not for investment. Never check the value of my collections.

I'm no longer into collecting things. However, my grand aunt used to amass a sizable album of stamps. Given that she arranged them by year and nation, I think she had three volumes of that. My relatives who were stationed abroad would mail letters to her so she could collect the stamps they contained.

I used to collect things buy I donĀ“t anymore. The last collection I had were ceramic Piggy banks from all over the world. Two years ago, some burglars entered my house and stole them. Now I keep my money in an old coffee can in the kitchen.

@Beestring I started with just collecting any coin of different countries and Philippine silver coins, now the collection haa been already upgraded to more valuable historical and ancient coins ,I also got more picky as we mature with stuff we collect.

I have decks of playing cards from around the US and from a few other countries, like India, Mexico and Canada... They aren't worth much, but I like collecting them. (I have several shoeboxes full of them in my bedroom closet.) I have different coins from the US past that are collectibles as well as several Silver Certificates and other odd bills... One friend, before he passed away, used to travel all over the world and he would gift coins to me from the places he traveled. (I don't think any of them are worth much, but they have sentimental value to me.) I have a shoebox filled with collectable envelops from the US Postal Service that are worth money, too. I have post cards from all the places my daughter and I traveled to on vacation. They are just for memories and probably aren't worth anything. I like collecting things... I don't know why, though. *shrug*

The things you collect are interesting. My dad used to collect stamps but my mom sold them when he passed away. Since snail mail is being used less and less I wonder if stamps will become extinct at some point.

There's a possibility. At this moment, Post Office here still issues special edition stamps to commemorate Chinese New year and certain events. It appears that a lot of people are still interested to buy these stamps.

Some day your collection could be quite valuable - even now maybe. I collected Beswick horses for a while but I've stopped now.

I like to collect vintage paperbacks, mostly science fiction, but also series like "The Saint" and "Doc Savage". Apart from enjoying reading the stories, which I do, I also like the 50s and 60s pulp style of cover art. I sometimes buy job lots of books through eBay, keep some to read, and sell on any duplicates or books that don't interest me. In particular, I've managed to build a substantial collection of Ace Science Fiction Doubles (which consisted of two books printed back to back, with two front covers). Plus I've got at least a dozen vintage Saint books, which I'm slowly working through.
