We don't eat at chain restaurants

Hubby loves to eat at restaurants. About once a week we head out. There are too many charming eateries here. Even the fast food place- we could eat at Burger King but why? The fast food place that we go to is just based in Oregon and Washington. It's cheese burger has real cheddar cheese on it. It costs more but it is worth the money for sure. Their raspberry sundae has real raspberries in it, not just a sugared fake. We found an East Indian restaurant. Butter chicken and tons of coconut sauce- mild or spicey. We made friends with the man who runs that place and waits on people. He even walked down to our house and had a chat one Sunday. He was delighted with the chunk of homemade bread that I gave him. We found a small cafe in the town just south of us that serves up British pasties- like a meat roll. So tasty. She features microgreen salads from a local farmer. That's where I encountered the Dirty Gurdy drink and had heart burn for hours. Ha ha. No sense in going to somewhere ordinary like Dennys. I'll take a place that features home done apple butter any day over generic Dennys. Ooops on the waistline, huh?

We still aren't eating food from restaurants... I'm glad you feel safe in doing that.

He and I have that in common. When my ex and I traveled to Vancouver British Columbia we found a fish and chips place in Victoria that was out of this world. I think the mom and pops places are the best. They just take a little more work to find. Here in Boise, we have a hamburger place, Wheeler's Handout. It has the best hamburgers. One comes on a bun shaped like a hoagie and is my favorite. We have a Chinese restaurant here that I haven't been to in years. It is the Golden Star. Their sauces and food are so well done. Not greasy like some places are. Yes, oops on the waistline but so worth it. I don't worry about my waistline anymore but, I know some women still do.

@celticeagle Victoria!!! Hubby and I have been there many times. Oh my on their chowder. Every pub would have their own version and oooh so tasty. I love their food and of course their tempting tea rooms.

I prefer hunger than to go to fast food restaurants. My tummy does not like them but before that, my taste buds don´t either. I go once in a while to good restaurants but mostly prepare food at home. Last week I ivited Camila to an Arab restaurant. Delicious and I don´t know how to cook that food. Next week she is taking me to the dermatologist and I´ll cook Chinese fried rice the day before. On the way home I´ll go to my favorite Chinese restaurant and will buy a sweet and sour pork or the like to go with it.

We like going to Red Lobster, Longhorn Steakhouse and Texas Roadhouse. We don't have any good, non-chain restaurants around. I wish they'd build some.

The non-chain restaurants you mentioned sound great! Unfortunately for us, in our neck of the woods, we mostly have chain fast food joints and only Mexican and Chinese restaurants to choose from. While we love our favorite Mexican and Chinese restaurants, there's not much else in way of other ethnicities of food. Our county has kind of a dearth of cultural foods from Europe or India or anyplace else. LOL, we don't even have a Denny's!

@gtdoss We moved from an area that just had Mexican food or cruddy Chinese so all these tasty restaurants are really fun. We also can drive a little further and dine on fresh oysters. I'm sorry you don't have much to choose from. I'd love an authentic Italian restaurant.

Small, unique eateries are the best.

I'd rather go to charming eateries too - not the fast food places where there's nothing that unique (or healthy) about it. There seems to be a nice variety of places out there . We haven't gone to a restaurant in 2.5 years . . . I hope our favorite places have survived !

I usually go to Lucy's Cafe where I can get some really good chili rellenos. I haven't been in about 4 months but I'm not really that big on eating out anyway.

Home cooking is easier on the health than many of those chain places.

I much prefer local authentic restaurants over the fast-food ones, so those are always my first choice. But where I work there is no local choices, just a bunch of fast food places since we’re right off the interstate. Mostly I bring my own lunches from home, but if I ever run out to grab lunch while I’m at work, I really don’t have a choice but to get fast food.

We are spoilt for choice here too when it comes to eateries. Lots of small ones and bigger ones but all serving nice food.

I don't go out to eat now after the pandemic. I get it delivered home whenever I like to have something from the restaurant.

We haven't done chain restaurants in years either. We find that we get superior service and quality of food at the little family owned and operated places. And, if you belong to a service club, and need small things such as gift certificates for fund raisers, they are all to quick to donate, where the chains tell you to send a request to their regional office and then they will consider it. Nothing personal about how they treat you.

Same here. We eat out twice a week and we prefer locally owned restaurants. It just has a better feel and the food is incomparable. We don’t mind paying extra for the service and the experience. Fast food are just not our choice for dinner.
