Do You Know How to Eat with Chopsticks?

I don’t but I have tried my best to be able to use them. I have chopsticks in my kitchen drawer but I am not using them. My husband and son know how to eat with them so they can use chopsticks whenever we go to a Chinese restaurant.
Yesterday was my birthday and we went for the first time to a Korean restaurant for a special dinner. We invited a few friends but only my best friend could come. The restaurant was an hour drive from where we live.
We ordered Samgyeopsal (Korean bbq), Kimchi fried rice, veggies for the bbq, mango juice, coconut juice and some wine. The waiter instructed us how to make the Korean bbq, food wrapped in lettuce.
When the waiter was gone. My friend said, „Yay! I have spoon for my kimchi fried rice. I was already thinking of bringing my own spoon.“ We started laughing.
Then I only saw chopsticks on our table. No fork and knife. My friend wanted to ask for a fork and knife but I said no.
We started laughing again when my son said, „ how to eat the rice with chopsticks?“ I know he was only joking but it brought us tears while laughing. It was hard to stop laughing.

We enjoyed eating our first Korean dinner. Then I said, thanks goodness we have lettuce for wrapping my food. At least I could push my meat and veggies to the lettuce, wrap them before eating.
It was a delicious and fun dinner. We were very happy. It was a memorable day for me to remember. Writing this makes me laugh remembering our funny moments. Now I have to learn eating with chopsticks. I want to go back there. The waiter sung birthday song for me while serving us Soju (Korean beer) drinks for free after our dinner. I liked it that I gave him a good tip.
Anyway, did you have those funny moments in a restaurant before? What was it? Thanks for reading.

I like Korean food, especially Korean BBQ. Kimchi is too spicy for me. Cannot think of any funny moments in a restaurant.

Pretty and I have eaten in a Korean restaurant but they gave us spoons and forks. We don't know how to use chopsticks, anyway.
Happy belated birthday! I'm glad you had a good time.

@cacay1 No, restaurants buy chopsticks by the case. They come wrapped two of them together and that's how they're placed on the dining table. The customer unwraps brand new chopsticks every time. Used chopsticks are cheap, so are thrown away after one use. It's like plastic spoons and forks in the US are used once and thrown away.

I think the waiter thought that we know how to use chopsticks because most of us looked like Asian.
Thank you very much @DaddyEvil. Yes, I had a good time.

When I moved to China it took me 3 months to learn how to use them and now I’m a pro lol. I use them at home as well for rice too. It took me a while to master it tho but now it’s my go to utensil.

@Greencindere Wow! That means you eat 3 full meals everyday with chopsticks. No bread sandwich for breakfast or so.

Wow, it sounds like you had a great supper with friends and family! The funniest moments we've had at restaurants have been at Japanese Hibachi restaurants where they cook the food in front of you. And, yes, I am quite good at using chopsticks, because I have been using them at the many Chinese restaurants I have been to in my life (I live in the United States).

Yes, it was great. A memorable one @gtdoss.
I have not been to a Japanese restaurant. I have seen that cooking in front of you in some Asian movies. That would be good to try. There are a lot of Japanese restaurants in Düsseldorf. Maybe I will try one of them with my family or friends. Thank you.

Belated Happy Birthday. I'm not interested to learn to use chop sticks. I think it is difficult. Your celebration looks really fun
