Rabbits and 'roos at our house-sit

There are five baby rabbits at our house-sit but it’s hard to get a photo of them all at once. There is one daisy bush they enjoy nibbling on. They mostly stand up to reach the bit they want but this morning one of them jumped into the middle of the bush. This morning for the first time we saw ten or a dozen roos down on the flat below the dam. And Vince says I’ve been spelling the duck’s name wrongly. It should be Qwacka so Qwacka it shall be from now on. I hope you enjoy the photos. If you can’t find the rabbits, look for little grey smudges.

Wow, what beautiful terrain. My camera would have a field day if I could get there.

That is amazing to see them freely roaming your place. They seem to be enjoying the greenery and enjoy munching them. Do they eat all kinds of grass there?

Yes, they eat the different kinds of grass that's available.

The birds all feed on the lawn together. We've seen quite a few more of the little finches.

@JudyEv The finches you showed before looked more like parrots, at least some of them did.

The duck name is quite a tongue twister. My kids would have enjoyed seeing so many rabbits and Kangaroos at one place! It would be perhaps exciting to keep a watch on their movements. Have a nice Monday!

The rabbits are only babies but they show very little fear of us. We still haven't seen the adults.

@JudyEv Yes that could be a possibility. But something a Zoology expert could perhaps tell in a better way.

Those baby rabbits are too cute. I know you missed the roos, I am sure you enjoyed watching them. Qwacka is a nice name, perfect for a duck.

@JudyEv There are many mallard ducks around the lakes here, they fly good distance.

@LadyDuck Wikipedia says mallards have been introduced here. Certainly I've seen ducks with mallard colouring.

The wall is made of huge limstone blocks. The rabbits think it's been put there just for them.

They are some distance from the house but they do act very naturally. However, it doesn't take much to frighten them.

Pretty sure the duck isn't too worried about spelling! Roos and bunnies as guests, think I'd stick to bunnies, as they don't fight you!

These roos seem sh*t scared of us. As soon as we poke our noses out the door, they are off! Although not these ones on the other side of the dam. But the little rabbits haven't learnt too many survival skills yet. You can get quite close to them.

We used to have a lot of rabbits but I don't know if it is an increase in people or cats that is causing them to disappear. I love the photos of the roos, that would be cool to see them in the wild.

@JudyEv Now the pests we deal with are squirrels and racoons. I have read online from neighbors who have racoons in their attic and they had to call a professional to get rid of them.

Rabbits are a pest here but on this property, they can't really do much damage as there are no crops although they do eat the garden.

Do you give it some vegetable matter from time to time? Lettuce leaves perhaps?
