It’s the cute cows turn to be in the spotlight today. They are called Grandma and Mum although they are not related. Their breed is Lowline Angus, a modern Australian breed, created by selective breeding from Aberdeen Angus. The height is about 60% of the standard Angus and they are polled (no horns). Although one of the smallest cattle breeds, they are not dwarfs.
They are ideal for hobby farms as they cause less damage to pasture and don’t need such high fences. They are quiet-tempered. These are definitely on the old side and seem to have an accumulation of fat in some odd places. They get pellets every second day and also like apples.

I can see weird bulges on their hips. But they are still cute.

@JudyEv It could be a normal age thing. Most are not kept that long. Especially if they stop producing calves.

I would guess the one on the left to be the older of the two...
You and Vince are getting to see and play with quite the menagerie at this housesit.

@JudyEv The way she's carrying herself in the photo reminds me of the way one of our cows carried herself shortly before she passed away. Please watch her closely.

@DaddyEvil We will. The owner has been expecting her to pass away at any time but she keeps going.

We had polled Herefords too but then the heifers were having trouble calving (calves had big heads) so in the end he got an Angus bull to put over the heifers.

Quite informative for me!
Interesting what all selective breeding can bring out.
Yet the Grandma and Mum make me laugh a bit!!

@JudyEv
Send them over to India and after eating what all will be offered to them, they might need even more dieting!

Stray cattle are too many. Sometimes they block traffic as well.
Resources as well as willingness to manage more cows and some Bulls is missing here.
The numbers are to quite high as well.

Is that fat natural for the breed or it is only these cows that have it?

I think it is probably natural for very old cows that get too fat.

They are shorter than most. And these are now elderly and a bit misshapen.

They are cute cows. I like cows and encountered some years ago. I don't eat beef.
