Question of the Day- Ever Cut Your Own Hair

Have you ever taken scissors to those growing locks of long hair and given yourself a haircut? I used to give my dad a haircut with a product he bought called "The Flowbee." If you're not familiar with the item it's a blower type of contraption like a hair dryer which you attach to a vacuum cleaner hose to create enough force to cut your hair. The suction effect makes your hair standup and the comb attachments and blades cut off the perfect length. It actually worked pretty well! But I digress a bit. I have given myself a few at home haircuts and I have the Covid quarantine to thank for that, lol. With the closing of hair salons after the virus hit it forced me to buy a hair clipper, since after a couple of months my hair was looking pretty shabby! Did anyone do the same? Well, I can't say I did a professional job, but I can say it did look better than that camel doo in the photo. If I had a funny line to describe that camel photo it would be "is that a bird's nest on top of your head?" What funny hair line can you come up with to describe the camel photo's "mane"? So, who is/was an amateur hair stylist? What did you do for haircuts during Covid?

I cut my hair since 1999 and I do a very good job. I also cut my husband's hair.

@dgobucks226 - I have installed mirrors to see the back of my head. In the beginning it was not easy, but I am practicing from so many years, I do a good job now. I only use professional scissors that I bought in Italy in a specialized store.

I was really glad when you were allowed to return to the hair salons again. Although my attempt at cutting my own hair was not a disaster, it's hard to cut the back portion evenly. Afterall, I don't have eyes in the back of my head, lol. Do you use any special clippers or just scissors when you cut hair?

Such a funny photo. Made me smile. Of course I have taken the scissors as my hair has always been long. I cut my bangs too short once and almost had no bangs left.

Yes, I guess we can say the animal is sporting a "camel afro." I will still trim my hair between haircuts, but I'm sure glad my saloon is open! During covid I cut my own hair and it turned out way to short

Is that your new pet? Yes, I have trimmed my hair in the past. I wouldn't try to cut it into a certain fashion however.

@dgobucks226 .........Yes, the back takes real eyes in the back of the head that we humans just don't have.

Ha, ha! Good one Yes, trying to cut it into a certain style would be very hard. I was really glad when you were allowed to return to the hair salons again. Although my attempt at cutting my own hair was not a disaster, it's hard to cut the back portion evenly. Afterall, I don't have eyes in the back of my head, lol.

I always remember the commercials for those vacuum attached contraptions and thought they were silly. But they must have done well enough I suppose. As for giving myself haircuts, I have done it many times. Mostly because I am simply cheap. It turns out well enough, although sometimes it does kind of look like a blind man did it. But I always use a clipper when I do. There are times for a real haircut though. For all the other times ball caps work quite well.

Ha, ha. I was hoping someone would remember those commercials when I posted. Yes, the vacuum method of cutting was pretty much idiot proof. And it was a money saver. My dad hated to go to the barber. As for using a professional stylist, eventually it becomes necessary, but like you said, in the meantime a ball cap works just fine

About four or five years ago, I bought an electric hair clipper, and I've been using it ever since. I just use it to give myself a simple, functional haircut. I reckon I'm saving over £100 a year doing that, plus travel time to and from the hairdresser. I was a bit nervous the first couple of times I did it, but it's actually quite simple.

Yes, it can definitely save you some money as frequent haircuts do add up! I've also used a clipper which works well on the sides for me. I was really glad when you were allowed to return to the hair salons again. Although my attempt at giving myself a complete haircut was a disaster, it's hard to cut the back portion evenly. Afterall, I don't have eyes in the back of my head, lol.

@dgobucks226 Getting the back straight is the tricky bit for me too, but I seem to have got better at it with time.

I often cut my fringe since it is not so difficult. Two days ago I even tried to dye my hair and it was very successful

Yes, products for dying mustaches and hair are easy to use and work well. I will usually trim the sides of my hair which grows the fastest. I do a pretty good job there but trying to cut the back is difficult. Hard to see back there, lol.

I don't cut it, but I used to thin it out. However, I don't think my hair these days requires thinning.

I remember in childhood my father used to cut my and my elder brother's hair and frankly speaking he used cut them so badly that people used to ask us from which saloon we had our haircut. During the lockdown because of covid two years back, my wife cut my hair and I think she did a fair job.

I can't get over how the camel's face actually looks a bit like a human's.

I did not pick up on that! It looks like the camel eyes are completely covered, but I think the hairline stops just short of that. That animal definitely has some "bed head."

I used to cut my hair all the time; but I've given that up. I go to Great Clips and get a Senior Haircut for under $20. I don't do well with captions.

I think bird's nest fits pretty well, lol. Yes, great clips are definitely a bargain when it comes to haircuts. I used to go to Supercuts a very similar type place. When my stylist opened up her own shop I decided to go there. I now am charged $26 for a haircut.

I see. Best to leave it to the experts! I will trim mine if one area seems to be growing too fast usually the sides.
