A month or so back, we house-sat on a farm and looked after two dogs – Russell and LuLu. I think I wrote about both of them. We’re house-sitting a neighbouring property in January and said we’d feed and walk Russell and LuLu as well. It is likely to be stinking hot then so we weren’t really looking forward to that part of our stay. While we were there, I helped two ladies start on string mats. One has emailed to say they’ve finished their mats and also that Russell’s farm has been sold although the deal isn’t quite sealed yet. It’s a big, prosperous concern and I can’t even imagine how much they would have got for it. So maybe we won’t be walking Russell and LuLu after all. Photo is mine of one of the outdoor sitting areas of the house. Unfortunately, it was alive with mosquitoes. I wonder what will happen to Russell? Hopefully, the new owners will need a sheep-dog.

Hmm well maybe you won’t have to walk them. If you do though just walk them early before it gets to hot.

That's what we'd do. Go really early and get it done before it gets too hot. However, it's very nice in bed too, early in the morning on a hot summer's day.

It looked lovely but the mozzies were out in force so we didn't stay there long.

Why are you so concerned for Rusell. Won't the owners be taking him along with them?

@allknowing If he is out rounding up sheep, he'll be pretty happy.

No, he is a sheepdog, a working dog. He would be a nuisance for them in the city. He will probably be given to a farmer friend for sheep work.

Why wouldn't his owners take him with them? I can't imagine abandoning my dog were I to move.

@Kandae11 It didn't seem to and as we both react to mosquito bites, we didn't stay out there.

If they're going to the city as I suspect, then he wouldn't be happy there especially as his owner isn't really a dog person. Some farmer will no doubt take him as a working dog.

@JudyEv. Another very comfortable looking outdoor setting. A mosquito spray or destroyer coil should keep the mosquitoes at bay.

@JudyEv we don’t have many mosquitoes here in Mississippi, but they were horrid in Tampa.

@Tampa_girl7 We react quite badly now so we don't hang around where there are mosquitoes - not if we can help it anyway. They even bite Vince through his socks.

It's looks so lovely and relaxing but the mosquitoes are thick in the bushes behind the chairs.

You could have put an electric fan pointed at you on the porch and been mostly free of mosquitos. They can't fly very well in a breeze and will usually find a place out of the wind to alight and stay until the breeze stops.

@JudyEv You're very welcome. My first wife and I had a gazebo built in our back yard and had electricity and a ceiling fan installed in it so the mosquitos wouldn't bother us while we were using it.

It's a lovely area. DaddyEvil suggested have a fan blowing over the area next time as mosquitoes don't like wind. Sounds a really good idea and one I think would work.

Is this the same house you mentioned and showed us the mattress or couch outside. I can't remember Russell and Lulu. But remembered that boy Jim.

This is a different one from both the ones you mentioned. You were probably busy when I wrote about this one. We were only there a week.

I hope that the new owners will keep Russell too. You have really widened your social circle doing these house sits, that is amazing.

I think so too really. Some of the people we knew slightly but we certainly know more now.

If the sale goes through I hope the owners will let you know if you need to walk Russell and LuLu while you house-sit the neighboring property. Pretty sitting area but certainly not fun if invaded by mosquitoes.

I hope the dog will be taken by someone who will love him. Mike and I don't often sit outside because neither likes getting bit by bugs.

LuLu is the wife's dog and is mollycoddled and very much spoilt. She will be fine. Hopefully a farmer will take Russell to work sheep.

That is great about the mats. The photo looks very comfy and cozy. I enjoy my screen room where no mosquitoes are allowed. I wish the best for Russell.

Probably a farmer will take him on as a working dog. It's a lovely looking spot but the mozzies drove us away.
