Paducah Parte Uno

Winding down our trip to Paducah, but it's not quite over yet. As suggested by someone here, I suppose I will post in parts. For dinner last night we went to a place here in Paducah that came highly recommended called The Freight House. Very well recommended by me as well if you ever happen to be in Paducah, Kentucky. We were even greeted in person by the chef, Sara Bradley, a recent contender in season 16 of Top Chef. I have to tell you; the service was exemplary. We walked in and were initially told because we did not have a reservation, even though it was not required, they simply did not have a spot for us. We were about to leave when we were told, "Wait a minute, a spot just opened up at the bar if you don't mind eating there." YES. We'd be happy to sit at the bar. Everything also came very quickly for as busy as they were, so I would say I was impressed. And the food was awesome to boot, and worth every single penny. For starters we decided on getting their deviled eggs with a bacon jam sauce. 6 for $8.50 and I will tell you, these melted in our mouths. I don't mean to sound bored. Just a little tired. We had a pretty full day today. It was actually a pretty full day yesterday too. All of which I will tell you about, for anyone who is interested. Piece by piece. Tomorrow we will head back. Not sure yet what we will do on the way home. But home is only about 2 1/2 hours away. Onward and upward and I will let you know all about all we did—and hopefully in a much more interesting way than this first post. lol I really am tired. https://www.freighthousefood.com/

Those eggs look good but I'd only be able to eat like 1 or 2.

We ate three a piece. Does that help? lol Man, they were REALLY good. I mean, it sounds ridiculous to rave about deviled eggs. But these were better than any I think I have ever had before.

@porwest No I get it. Devilied eggs can be really good. I think if I ate 3, though, I wouldn't be able to eat anything else. I look forward to hearing about the rest of your meal there.

@NJChicaa They weren't that filling, but I usually don't find deviled eggs to be filling. Even though these were certainly more rich than I am used to. But I had no problem at all with my main course.

@porwest Wow, it must have been good for you to give such a generous tip! But then again, I will give nothing less than 20% when I tip, most often more.

The food was AWESOME. The service was AWESOME. The accommodations were AWESOME. I gave a 30% tip I was so pleased. Definitely a do over if we are ever in Paducah again, which I suspect we will be. We enjoy the town and it's only 2 1/2 hours away.

I would have to say, as a fan of deviled eggs anyway, that these were probably some of the best deviled eggs I have ever eaten, hands down.

@porwest I agree it is best to support the local businesses. Our camping club usually eats out together one night on our weekend trips and will go out of our way to patronize a local restaurant.

It was awesome, and I always like it when we can support a standalone over a chain. There is so much good good out there beyond Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Logan's, Texas Roadhouse and Applebees and places like that.

@DWDavis That's my thought too. Small and local. They actually deserve our support far more than the chains do. And they work harder to earn our business as well, and thusly, also appreciate our business much more.

I think sometimes when you go to a standalone restaurant they have more to lose and so customer service and the entire experience is much higher on their list. Plus, they have a different level of care and respect for their customers and appreciate them more than a larger business that is quite a bit removed from the customer experience.

When I first looked at the pic I had no idea what that was lol. Then it hit me that those are eggs. Thought they were topped with caramelized onions. Wonder why the food came so quick if they were very busy. I generally do not like to sit at the bar but if that was the only option available at a place I really wanted to go to that day I'd do it. Especially if I traveled far there.
