Updating this, that and the other

We’ve just come back from shopping and boy, is it hot out there. Pictured are three felt pan protectors that we bought. Just in case you’ve never seen them, they are used between stacked frypans to stop scratching. Maybe not really an essential kitchen item but they cost next to nothing. I also bought a new non-stick oven tray as a replacement for one of mine that has seen good service but is looking a little the worse for wear – a bit like me. I’m getting a little bit anxious about how our house-swap people will view our home. I’ve washed the oven mitts today after soaking them in stain remover. If they still look a bit grotty, I’ll buy new ones. At least, having someone move in is a good excuse for updating a few items.

I told you that you'd be thinking about how things would appear to the other people in your swap and you'd be thinking of things you could have done a little better even after you've left to make the swap. I'm sure the other people will find your home much to their liking and you have nothing to worry about.

That's what Vince keeps saying - but I'm a bit worried that you might be both wrong.

Oh the felt pads are a great idea. I would love that for the cookie pans we keep in the oven but I’m afraid it would start a fire if we lot the oven and forgot to take the pans out which happens at times

@JudyEv my husband hates that I keep them there but there’s just no where else to put them.

Good point. Now I'm thinking I could store some of my pans in the oven. The pan drawer is pretty full.

@shaggin Some kitchens don't have a lot of storage space, that's for sure.

They are trusting us - and our son has met them now. She lectures in a university, he has a financial advisory business so we feel okay with it.

The mitts have come up a treat. I don't know why I didn't soak and wash them 12 months ago.

I'm sure that they will feel at home in your place, but it is nice to replace some of those worn kitchen items.

It's a good excuse really. You can hang onto some things too long. But the mitts have washed up nicely so I won't need new ones.

My hot pads and mitts get gross. I wonder if they are worrying about you being in their home, too.

I don't think so because it won't actually be their home but an apartment which is usually let out as an AirBnB so everything will be sp*ck and span, I'm sure. The mitts look much better now and I won't bother with new ones so that's good. I'll have to find something else to worry about now.

They will be here a month but they don't get here till April 6 I think. We leave on March 30 and have one night with our son before moving to their 'house' which is usually an AirBnB which they own.

They would actually be quite easy to make as they don't especially need to be this shape.

I think you're worrying about appearances too much! Your house is probably close to spotless; and having a grotty looking oven mitt isn't the end of the world. Sorry! I will stop sounding like your mother now and say "Have a good week!"

Those felt protectors are a great idea. I wish I had them. I've been using a paper towels between my frypans so they don't scratch.

When you stack pans in each other, they can get scratched. This stops that.
